Miss Cox has long been 'associated with Superintendent .. Hedrick in the public schools, 'having served as principal of .Medford grade schools for 28 ; years. Also on tlie program were Mrs. Eleanor Curry Hamilton and Mrs. Corinne Harwood Rob- - ! bins, both granddaughters of Union Veterans and Medford teachers, who gave vocal solos. " The reception room was deco .rtted with red, white and blue flowers and flags and the beau tifully appointed tea table was arranged with pink rose buds from the garden of Mrs. Clar ence Harwood, Pouring were Mrs. Walter Kindred and Mrs. , George W. Enrollment Week To Be Observed By Local Group ' f The week of October 18 to 22, inclusive, has been design ated as "Enrollment Week" by Parent-Teacher associations for all persons interested in child Jwelf are; Special observance of the week is being planned by all associations in the Medford district. i Mrs. John Larwood, president of the Medford Parent-Teacher association council, points out that for 45 years the National Congress of Parents and Teach ers has dedicated its service to the care, education and protec tion of children and youth. "Today these needs require par ticular attention if the children of the nation are to be protect ed from the physical hazards of war, the emotional strains of the times, the disruption -of home and family life and the social upheaval and confusion, the president states. "A membership in a Parent- teacher association means that we are able to help the welfare of children and youth in the home, school, church and com munity. i, "The Oregon Congress has chosen as a motto for the year 1943-1944 'A Membership in Every Home, and set as a goal 35,000 in memberships for Ore gen. Miss Cox, who has been principal of Medford schools for the past 25 years, is widely Known in tne city. Bride And Groom . Honored Wednesday At Dinner-Shower Mr, and Mrs. James Lillie of 1182 Court St. -entertained Wednesday evening at their homo with a dinner and shower in honor of their daughter and son in-law, whose wedding was an event of October 8. The bride, the former Miss Carol Ltllie. was married to Norman Cuddie of Seattle in a ceremony performed by Judge J. B. Coleman In bis office at the courthouse. The dinner Wednesday was at eight o'clock in the evening. For dessert large wedding cake was cut and served by the bride. . Twenty-eight guests were pres ent including the groom's fath er, Glen Cuddie, and his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Somers; the bride's broth er, Jimmy Lillie; her grandmoth er, Mrs. Emma- Lillie, and Mr. and. Dinner Saturday At Jackson 'Hotel Honors Mr. Cave A group of friends honored Willard Cave with a dinner in the banquet room of the Hotel Jackson last Saturday night. Juvenile Club Meets At Home of Director. Degree of Honor Juvenile club met Saturday, October 9, at the home of Mrs. Ida M. Wilson'. Ju venile director,' at 7 Chestnut street. Deloris Jarvis. president of the club, presided at the busi ness meeting. Visitors at the meetlne were Gordon Tldwell, Gloria Duna- gan, Leona Murray, and Mar- cella and Janice Tlpplet. Janice is a new member, coming here irom Mediord, Wis. Walter John son made application for his sec ond sergeant service stripe, and negina warns applied for a ser vice cap. After the business meeting:, the children enjoyed an afternoon of games on the lawn, with Walter Johnson and Reglna Marks re ceiving prizes. The affair ended with a weiner roast. Compton Married Thursday The wedding of Miss Delia Shults. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Shults, SOS West Main St., to Cpl. Norman' Compton, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Compton of Klamath Falls, was an event of last Thursday evening. The ceremony took place at the home of the bride's parents, with the Rev. C. W. Frost of the Apostolic Faith church reading the service. The bridal party stood by the livingroom fireplace for the can dlelight, ceremony. Preceding the ceremony Mrs. Martin Glr- rard sang "I Love You Truly" and the wedding march was played by Miss Laura Compton. ' For her wedding the bride wore a white gown and a finger tip length veil which fell from a seed pearl crown. Her bouquet was of pink roses and white car nations. Attending the bride were her twin sister, Miss Stella bhults, and Miss Dorothy Young as bridesmaids. Miss Shults wore a floor length dress of pink and Miss Young's gown was a floor length blue taffeta with net. Each carried an old-fashioned nosegay, John Frlesen was best man for Mr. Compton and Duana Jones was usher. - Following the ceremony wed ding refreshments were served and the newly married couDle cut ine weaaing cake. Mrs. Comp ton is well known in Medford having attended . the Medford schools and - graduated from senior high school. -,. - , Musical Society Meets Tomorrow At Boyle Home Mrs. John Boyle will enter tain members of the Medford Musical society at her home, iuitf aouin uakdaie avenue, to morrow evening. She will be assisted by Mrs. Stella Hend rickson and Mrs. W. Alex Kuehlthau. The evening's croeram will be presented by Mrs. Rawles Moore. On the program will be tne trio composed of Mrs. Wil liam McAllister, Mrs. D. F. Huson and Mrs. Chester Wendt and Mrs. D. R. Smith will give solos. Piano numbers will be presented by Mrs. Nell B. Tay lor. Wives of servicemen, mem bers of the Women's Army corps and nurses interested in music are extended a cordial in vitation to attend the meeting, scheduled for 8 p. m. Study Club Plans Season's Program At the first meeting this fall of the Thursday Morning Study club, held last week, it was de cided that the organization would meet but once each month during the coming season. This meeting will be the second Thursday of each month. On the program for the first meeting was Mrs. Justin Smith. who spoke on coordination of the -foreign policies of the allied nations. The November meeting of the organization will be Nov. 18, since the regular day would be Nov. 11, a holiday. Noble Grand Club Meets Thursday .: The Past Noble Grand Club held its October meeting Thurs day evening with President Ethel Pease in the chair. The members answered roll call with quotations and stories. After the transaction of regular business plans were made for a bazaar to be held November 12 and 13. Mrs. Veva Wimer had charge of the entertainment, assisted by Mrs. Leah Ivie. Mrs. Ina Huson gave a most interesting talk on the Hawaiian Islands, she having visited her son there in 1941, Various articles which she had brought from the islands were on display. Mrs. Laura Wicker was a visitor. The refreshment committee was made up of the mesaames ina Huson, Caroline Leaders, Mamie Walton and Ella Gould, assisted by Ethel Pease. A collection is Tours Hospital New Sewing Unit To Be Organized For Army Wives Mrs. William G. Llvesay is making plans for organization of a new Red Cross sewing unit which will meet Tuesday of each week at the Officers' Outpost. It Is stated that the Red Cross group which now meets at the Medford Hotel each Wednesday Is finable to handle the volume of sewing and it is thought that many newly arrived officers' wives will be interested in join ing the new group. First meet ing will be held this coming week at 10 o clock, Tuesday morning. A great many activities are scheduled for the Outpost this coming week. Monday evening a group of wives of 91st Division officers are giving a bridge par ty at the club and Tuesday eve ning Col. and Mrs. Norbury are entertaining for the officers of the medical unit which the colonel commands, their wives and other guests. The affair will be a dinner. The dancing class usually held on Wednesday and the Thursday bridge luncheon will not be held this coming week since the club rooms wil be undergoing repairs but, Saturday evening, Oct. 23,. a special open" house and danco is DBlng planned, with an or chestra to furnish music for the evening. Last Saturday nlaht officers of an engineers' unit at the camp and their wives gave a formal dance at the Outpost with an or chestra and a floor show to add to the evening's gayety. A social hour was' enjoyed after the meeting, with Mrs. Blanche Canode presiding at the tea table Junior High School P.-T.A. The Parent-Teacher associa tion of Medford Junior high school will resume activities with a meeting this coming Thursday afternoon in room 41 of the school building. A special invitation is extended by the association officers to all parents of children newly en rolled in the school to attend the meeting. Mrs. Dee Newton is president of the association for this coming year. 8:00 P. M. Sheriff's Posse, Mounted Troop On Annual Ride. Outstanding event e-f the year for the Medford Sheriff's Posse and the Ladies Mounted Troop is the annual ride, ar.d this event took place last week-end when members of the two groups rode to the ranch of Mr. and Mrs. William Grant In the Little Ap- plegate. Mr. Grant is a new member of the Fosse. About 40 riders, including husbands and wives of members, made an early start Saturday morning for the trip. A picnic lunch was eaten en route and upon arrival at the Grant ranch in the evening, the host and host ess served a barbecue dinner out doors. The group spent an en joyable evening around a camp fire with songs and stories, and all slept in the open. During the evening Sheriff Syd I. Brown was presented with a handsome riding hat by the Grants. The return ride was made Sunday and those taking the trip were unanimous in declaring the excursion the most enjoyable of any made by the posse and troop. On the fide were Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Hartzell The betrothal of Miss Beulah Stephenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Stephenson, 418 Ar cadia Court, to First Lt. Harold Hartzell, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Crawford, 18 Summit Ave., was announced recently at a party which Miss Stephenson gave at her home In Westwood Village, California. No date has been set for the wedding. Miss Stephenson is In Cali fornia to attend ''Santa Monica Junior college and is employed part time at the Douglas Aircraft corporation. Her fiance, a pilot in the marine corps, is stationed at Santa Barbara. - . Present for the announcement party were Miss Margaret Avery, Miss Helen Larson, Miss Jan Kin caid, Lt. Ballard, Lt. Miss Stephenson with the class of 1942 and the lieutenant in an earlier class. Lt. Hartzell is also a graduate of the Uni versity of Oregon where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Ep silon national fraternity.
