The ceremony was a candlelight service Wed nesday evening in the First Christian church, and was read by the Rev. Ward Rice, pastor of the church. The wedding march was play ed by Miss Vereue Bailey and preceding the ceremony Mrs. Effie Kurtz sang "I Love You Truly" and "Because". The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white satin and lace with a fingertip veil. Her flowers. were pink and white carnations and rosebuds. Attending , the bride was Miss Opal Bryant, as maid of honor, whose gown was pink marqui sette. She carried a colonial bouquet. William Smith was best man for Mr. Douglas and Joe Doug las, uncle of the groom, was usher. After the ceremony a recep tion was held at the Holland Hotel, with the traditional wed ding cake being cut by the bride and groom. Mrs. Gerald Bryant and Miss Delia -Bigham assisted at the reception After a short wedding trip to Portland Mr. and Mrs. Douglas will reside here. Mr. Douglas being employed by the Medford corporation. Mrs. Douglas, graduate of the Phoenix high school and of Medford Business College, is employed at the Southern Pacific railway freight office here... Ferns. Group singing closed the enjoyable eve ning. Leaders Attend AAUW Conference Mrs. Arthur M.. Cannon and Mrs. Justin B. Smith were in Portland' yesterday to attend a conference of American Associa tion of University Women mem bers. The conference, for, chap ter presidents and state board members, had as main speaker Dr. George V. Sheviakov, child psychologist for the school at Vanport, new industrial city be tween Portland and Vancouver. Dr. Sheviakov spoke on "The Child in War and Post-War School. Im-. ,. i.i... ,,. hausen,' also of Medford, took Olive Rebekah lodge for 41 years and who passed away at ner home in Berkeley, Calif.. recently, marked the meeting of the lodge last Monday evening. The memorial was arranged and conducted by Mrs. Carrie Mc- Dannal, Mrs. Ethyl Weed, Mrs, Grace Hamlin, Mrs. Julia Gre gory, Mrs. Viola Aldredge and Mrs. Mary Cave, Mrs. Albert Is survived by her husband in Berkeley and daughter, Fern, now living in Modesto, Calif. ' The Women's Society of Chris tian Service of the Methodist church will observe Charter Day Friday, Oct., 15, at the church parlors. The society was organ ized three years ago, following the union of the' three branches of the Methodist church. The program, - to begin at 2:30 p. m., will be followed by tea, honoring especially, the charter members. All members and friends are Invited to at tend. , , Mrs. Lulu Saulsberry Returns From Vacation ' Mrs. Lulu Saulsberry of Jack sonville has returned home after spending two weeks at Santa Ana, Calif., where her son, John M. Saulsberry, is an aviation cadet at the Santa Ana army air base. While in the south Mrs. Saulsberry also visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rowland W. Hudson, and Mrs. Hudson's mother, Mrs.- -Amelia Elmer,- in Alhambra. The Elmers were for mer residents of Jacksonville where Mrs. Hudson will be re membered as Miss Adarel Elmer. Just Arrived! Thornhill, were in charge of arrangements for the October luncheon and meeting of the Camp White Medical Depart ment Officers' Wives group, held last week. ' The affair was Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Frank T. Chamberlin, 1114 bourn Oakdale avenue. Mrs. Thornhill was assisted by Mrs. M. L. Steffi, as food chairman, and Mrs. L. - M. Barger,. who. was in charge of decorations.r Serving with Mrs. atem were Mrs. ra. M. liunn Mrs. H, B. McBride, Mrs. W. C. Agster, whose husband is with the Both hospital unit, and Mrs, W. Rv Miller, whose husband is with .the Station hospital staff. Assisting Mrs.' Barger were Mrs. E. A. Erickson and Mrs. W.' Schneider. The decorative motif for the house and garden, where lunch was served, had a patriotic theme and as a fitting part of the program,; a "baby bond" auction was held. The auction was in charge of Mrs. w. u. Thompson. Mrs. James Hepple- white, Mrs. William Levin and Mrs. Thomas R. Evans. Bpnds went to Mrs. J. L. Gilbert and Mrs. Gale Rice. - During the afternoon a busi ness meeting was held with re ports by the secretary-treasurer and a reminder from the presi dent concerning the work days which many of the women spend each week at Camp White performing tasks for the Station hospital. Among other projects, the group is endeavor ing to complete equipping of the nurses' quarters. Speaking also were Capt. Beatrice Dare, head nurse of the Station hospital, and Col. F. T. Chamberlin, medical director of Camp White, who spake of the value and importance of the work being done by this group. The afternoon Closed with bridge, prizes going to Mrs. R. O. Anslow, Mrs. James Hepple- white and Mrs. Heroert L. Mat- tox. and bingo, at which Mrs. Ginsberg won a prize. Program Features Talk and Display For Garden Club. Annual Banquet Is Given Monday By Church Guild Crater Lake Guild of the Presbyterian church held its annual banquet last Monday evening in the church parlors. The tables were gaily decorated with . Hallowe'en appointments, huge sunflowers and fall fruits and vegetables. Following dinner members and guests adjourned to the fire place, room for the evenings program. A musical program consisted of solos by Miss Jean Farley, accompanied by Mrs Roberta Ward Bcbb. and piano numbers ' by Miss Betty Evan- son.- After the music Miss vera Humphrey, program chairman. introduced the speaker of the evening, Mrs. Fred Rankin, ex ecutive secretary of the Jackson county chapter of the Red Cross Mrs. Rankin gave an interesting and informative talk about the work of the Red Cross among soldiers during war time, par ticularly among the wounded and prisoners. Study Club Opens Program For Fall Last Wednesday Wednesday Study club mem bers opened the fall season for the group with a luncheon last Wednesday at the Holland Hotel This study club Is one of the old est women s groups In the valley and this fail is entering its 36th consecutive year of activity. Mrs. Frank Albert, president, presided over Wednesday's meet ing and roll call was answered by members telling of thelt summer activities. Miss Virginia Hammond, a guest, told of her interesting experiences as per sonnel director of the California Canning company. Miss Ham mond is the daughter of Mrs R. B. Hammond. Another guest was Mrs. A. W Miller, daughter of Mrs. Bert Lowery. Members of the committee In charge of the luncheon were Mrs. F. E. Nichols, chairman, assisted by Mrs. Dolph Phlpps. Mrs. Wade Crawford, Mrs. Ham mond and Miss Helen Bullls. Thirty members of the Med ford Garden club met at the Girls Community club Thursday afternoon, with the interesting program planned by Mrs. F, E. Nichols. Mrs.-W. C. Rookard spoke on conservation and pres ervation 6t fruits and Mrs. Mar-, tin Heitkamp dischssed tuberous begonias and exhibited beautiful arrangements of blossoms of all colors and sizes. Mrs. D. R. Wood gave a brief talk on horti culture. .-. '.-... The club rooms were decorat ed, with roses donated by Mr. Lester of, the Medford Rose Garden, and the tea table center piece, a low bowl of red roses known as the Southport, drew considerable attention. During the tea hour Mrs. Heitkamp and Mrs. Wood poured. Mrs. J. W. Jacobs and Mrs. C. C. Sater were presented with prizes. Mrs. C. H. Al Stoehr, who were there on a short leave. Miss Stoehr plans to return to Med ford Monday. The club had the honor of being the first group to use 'he community hall and its facilities.
