GOLD HILL TAR HOME . FROM PACIFIC FRONT Gold Hill, Oct 1. (Spl.) Earl S. Courtney, boatswain's mate, first class, U. S. navy is in Gold Hill visiting his mother, Mrs. Amy Hammersly, after an absence of nearly three years. He has recently graduated from the naval mine warfare school at Yorktown, Va. Before being transferred in July to the mine warfare school he spent 18 months in the southwest Pacific, where he visited most of the islands now in the war news, also Australia. The ship on which Courtney was stationed at Pearl Harbor, was lost and after being trans ferred to another, he was on patrol duty in the Coral Sea, for a time and was based at New Caledonia. Later he was in the Hebrides and Solomon Islands area. Brownsboro Brownsboro. Oct. 1 (Spl.) Mr. and Mrs. Lester Marshall and children returned recently from a trip to Crescent City and other points of interest on the coast.
