Miss Gladys Rice also visit ed relatives in Tacoma and Seat tle while away. At Kearns Pvt. Reuben W. BJorkquist of 322 S. Central Ave., is now stationed at Kearns, Utah, at the AAF basic training center. Pvt. BJorkquist, who went Into the army in "August, was formerly employed in Med ford with the Shell Oil com pany. Mrs. BJorkquist is em ployed at Wainscott's drug store here. Dawson Enrolled ' David James Dawson, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Dawson of 412 Board man street, was recently en rolled in an intensive course of study in the signalman school at the naval training station at Farragut, Idaho, according to a press release from the school. There he will learn the newest methods used in this specialized branch of the naval service, and may qualify for a petty officer rating upon successful comple tion of the course. Car Recovered The 1937 V-8 panel station wagon owned by Joseph Caverly of Jacksonville, stolen Saturday, was recovered on the Table Rock road Sunday morning, state police reported today. Chairman Coming Miss Mar tha Shamburger, statistician and health education chairman of the Oregon Tuberculosis associa tion, will be in the county Wed nesday and will meet with rep resentatives of the Jackson County Public Health associa tion. Lawrence Here Staff Ser geant Don Lawrence, top turret gunner on a B-25 Billy Mitchell medium bomber, who has been stationed in the Aleutian Islands with the U. S. army air forces, is spending a furlough in Med ford with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald G. Lawrence. Sgt. Lawrence, former carrier for the Mail Tribune, participated in several bombing missions over Attu and Ktska before their oc cupation by American forces. He said the ask-ack was "pretty ferocious" but that no Jap fight er planes were encountered. Cancel Dance There will be no dance at Service Club No. 2 at Camp White this week due to the fact that the orchestra which customarily plays at the dance is being used this week for the third Victory Loan Drive. However, elaborate plans are being made for a formal birthday ball to be given the following Thursday, Oct. 7, and girls planning to attend are asked to phone the Outpost, 5765, at an early date, and list their names. e League To Meet The Wom en's League of St. Mark's Episco pal church will hold the first meeting of the fall Friday of this week at the home of the presi dent, Mrs. C. I. Drummond, 1336 Queen Anne Ave. The meeting will be at 1 p. m. and those at tending are asked to bring sand wiches. Plans for the league's activities this fall and winter will be made and Mrs. Drum mond is anxious to have a large attendance. She points out that any woman of the congregation is welcome to attend. Auto Infractions Draw Court Fines Edward Dole, Gold Hill, was assessed $1.50 and costs for operating an auto with void foreign license plates by Justice of the Peace W. R. Coleman over the week-end. Phllo F. Floyd, also Gold Hill, was fined $1.90 and costs for no opera tor's license. William E. Bedin- baugh, Ashland, remitted $2.50 and costs for no clearance lights on a truck. Jerry R. Bullis, chairman of Medford district of the Crater Lake a era council, Boy Scouts of America, announces a special meeting of the district commit tee at the council office at 8 this evening. Walter R. Whld- den, deputy regional executive from Portland, will be present to assist Frank Perl, df 'rict or ganization and extension chair man, in instituting an extensive program aimed at reaching more boys with the scout program. Whidden will be in the council the balance of the week, going into the other four districts in the three counties with the exe cutive staff to set up similar campaigns. Larry Schade, council presi dent, in announcing Whldden's visit, stated "We are most con scious of the need to make con structive youth programs such as that of the Boy Scouts of America increasingly effective in the lives of our youth. We have requested the services of the regional office In assisting us in setting In motion an ex tension program and recruiting plan that will make Scouting an even more effective force in meeting today's Juvenile needs." BARNEBURG Funeral services for Fred Barneburg, 53, who passed away Friday in North Bend, Ore., where he had recently gone to make his home, will be held privately In the Conger chapel at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday with the Rev. D. E. Millard officiating. Mr. uarneourg was born on the Bameburg ranch near Med ford, January 9, 1890. He was a son of pioneer parents, the lata Mr. and Mrs. Peter Barne burg and has spent his entire lifetime here. He leaves one son, Kenneth Barneburg of Roseburg; one brother, Harry Barneburg of Medford and two aunts, Mrs. Ida Clark and Mrs. Mollis Keene of Medford.
