C. Hunt, Sr., an all-won! blanket as the result of the bond auction held at Victory Center last night. Mr. and Mrs. Flynn's total purchases In bonds amount ed to $2,000 and in addition to the hose they received a baby blanket, a pair of rubber boots for Mr. Flynn and an angel food cake. Mrs. Hunt's purchase of the blanket was with 11,800 In bonds, the two sums comprising a large share of the total pur chases of $7,930 at the sale. The articles for the bond auction were all donated by Charles Adair of the M M Department store. Last night's program, ar ranged by Lloyd Rupp, opened with a parade and stirring mil itary music furnished by the Camp White SCU band. At the Victory Center a large audience enthusiastically received num bers by Ray Shoemaker's dance orchestra, Sebastian Apollo's ac cordion band, dance numbers by Frank LaCross and Dorothy Hall, the latter having appeared In spite of a recent illness, Cpl. Bob Carrick, Imitator, and Pic. Joe Sozla monologue comedian. John Eby led community sing ing and whistling. The auction was conducted by A. H. Dudley of Phoenix and Frank DeSouza of Medford was master of ceremonies. Final show of the third Vic tory Loan Drive will be Thurs day, September 30, closing day of the drive. BACON BABY STILLBORN Hollywood, Sept. 24 CU.B Shpck and grief over the mys tery slaying of her husband "Masked Marvel" David Bacon caused the stillbirth Monday of Mrs. Greta Keller Bacon's child, her physician revealed today. The former opera singer was taken to a Hollywood hospital shortly after her husband was found stabbed to death in a bean field. J. G. Wolf, district representa tive of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers union, A. F. of L., said today he had received official certification from the National Labor Relations Board estab lishing local number 2640 as ex clusive bargaining agency for all employes Involved of the Rogue River Lumber company of Rogue River. The certification was received from Thomas P. Graham, Jr., regional director of the NLRB, 19th region, Seattle, Wash., Wolf said. The NLRB, In a cross-check made by a field examiner of all employes of the lumber com pany, found that 21 out of 33 employes designated the union as the bargaining agent, the cer tificate stated. New York, Sept. 24 UR The cost of living in the United States declined 0.3 per cent dur ing August, as compared with July, but was 4.8 per cent high er than in August, 1942,, and 19.5 per cent above January, 1941, the national industrial confer ence board reported today. Living costs for wage earners and lower-salaried clerical work ers declined in August in 48 of 69 industrial cities surveyed by the board, advanced in 18 cities, and were unchanged in three. The largest decline, 1.8 per cent, occurred In Flint, Mich. Bridgeport, Conn., reported the largest increase, 1.9 per cent. - Living costs were higher this August than in August, 1942, in all the cities for which compar able figures were available. 8. T.
