Christine Leaden, long time
resident of , Medford, passed
away in a local hospital shortly
before midnight yesterday at
the age of 84.
She was born in Germany
and came to the United States
at the age of 21. One year after
her arrival she was married at
Elkheart, Ind.,' to Henry A.
Leaders who passed away here
in 1831.
Forty-three years - ago they
came to Medford and took up
residence at 1138 West 10th St.,
where she continued to reside
until the time of her demise.
She was a member of the
First Christian church of Med
ford. Four children survive, H. F.
Leaders of Marshfleld; Miss
Caroline Leaders and Mrs.
George Chlldreth of Medford
and Mrs. Carl Thompson of
Elkheart, Ind.
There are also 17 grandchil
dren, 17 great-grandchildren
and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held
in Conger chapel at 2 o. m
Saturday with the Rev. Ward
Rice, pastor of the Christian
church officiating. Interment
in the Medford I. O .0. F. ceme
tery.
FUEL DELIVERIES
' Because of limited manpower
and equipment, close coopera
tion by home coal and wood
users with the solid fuel Indus
try will be necessary If every
one is to receive fuel this
winter.
This statement was made to
day by Jim H. Busch, district
manager of ODT'i division of
motor transport following the
' first meeting of the ODT dis
trict solid fuel advisory com
mittee held for the purpose of
planning adequate delivery fa
cilities to solid fuel users this
winter. The meetlne. in the
Medford office of the Office
of Defense Transportation was
auenaea by w. H. Relchsteln,
Everett C. Faber. H. S. Deuel
W. D, Whittle, and Henry Her-
Busch said that the committee
r headed by Relchsteln, who was
j elected chairman, will make a
. complete survey of solid fuel
delivery conditions in this area.

FEHL TAX CASE
Circuit Judge Herbert K.
Hanna yesterday took under
advisement the tax foreclosure
proceedings instituted by Jack
son county against Earl H. Fehl,
Electa A. Fehl, and Corlnthla
E. Stalley, for collection of back
taxes accumulated since 1029,
and filed In 1037. Amount In
volved is approximately $5000
Fehl, acting as his own at
torney, arguea mat he was not
party to the action, inasmuch
as he was confined in a state
institution at the time of the
filing. He further contended
an appeal to the state supreme
court is now pending.
The state was represented by
District Attorney George W.
Nellson. The action, pending
for some time, Is highly involved.

Los Angeles, Cal. (U.R The
teaching of the "three R's" is
becoming more and more an
expensive luxury, according to
Controller M. P. Havlken of the
Los Angeles board of education.
He reported to the board that
last year it cost $138.49 per
capita to instill the three R's
into the heads of young kinder
garteners or 88 cents mora than
the year previous. However,
the greatest increase in the cost
of education was in Junior col
lege where the schooling cost
$300 85 per capita, a Jump of
$74.18 over the previous year
ending June 30.
