"Background to Danger" : opening today at the Craterian theatre, t has . been aptly de scribed as the ."p-47 of spy-thril lers," moving with the Thunder bolt's hurtling speed as it zooms, swoops and twists through the rapid mazes of a breathless ad venture story. George Raft, this time pack ing a rod for the G-men, and Brenda Marshall, exotically lovely as a Russian spy, lead a cast of colorful conspirators, with the smooth menace exuded by Sydney Greenstreet and soft, pale brand distilled by Peter Lorre. The background Is neutral Turkey. From the moment George ; Raft, as Joe Barton, makes eyes at a good looking girl (Osa Massen) on the Bagdad Instanbul Express, he swings in to a torrent of action. Appre hensive of danger, the lady gives him an envelope to safeguard, and her address in Ankara.- But when he comes to return the en velope, he finds her murdered. It is from this point on that hard, smooth George Raft is in his vigrous element in this fast paced thriller. The urbane Greenstreet and the apologetic ' Lorre head a crew of spine chilling and sinister henchmen, all helping to make a rousing round of turbulent action. A hectic chase and several shoot ings help to make "Background to Danger" a thrilling, action filled journey into a world of intrigue with self-preservation the only rule of life. Bobby Samarzich . ln Russian Dramd On Rialto Screen Heading a full thrill and ad venture program opening today at the Rialto, young Bobby Sa marzich leads a youthful cast in a dramatic story of Russia's child guerillas in their fighting front, against : Nazi oppression and invasion of their country. Laid with the seige of Stalin grad as its background, "Boy From Stalingrad" is jammed with action from the opening curtain to the final scene with teen-age youngsters dashing be hind heavily guarded German lines to lay sabotage to strongly armored Nazi patrols. :, , Supporting young Samarzich in supporting roles are Scotty Beckett, Conrad Binyon and Steven Muller all talented young stars. Ysuma Promoted John Ysun- za, former Medford boy, was re cently promoted from corporal to the rank of sergeant, accord' ing to word received here by his sister. Ruby Nelson of Trail. Sgt, Ysunza is serving in a medical unit, stationed in - the South Pacific. He attended the local schools, and was formerly employed in the mechanical de partment of the Mall Tribune. . Rev. Bray Visits The Rev. William "D. Bray, pastor of the Tlgard Methodist church at Ti- gard,- Ore., arrived Friday to visit his parents, . Dr. and Mrs. J. P. Bray, of Lozier Lane, until Monday when he will leave for the army's school for chaplains at Yale university. Rev. Johnson spent about 24 hours here, leaving this morning to report to his station in an artillery unit at Camp Pickett, Va. Prior to his enlistment in the army last February, John son attended Washington State College in Pullman. He went first to Ft. Lewis, Wash.,- and was then sent to Camp Robin son, Ark. He was next trans ferred to Camp Gordon, John ston, Fla., and then to Camp Pickett, Va. Fined Thomas O'Brien, 63, charged with drunkenness, was fined $10 in city police court Saturday. Phillip P. Walsh, 35, charged with being drunk and disorderly, was fined $10, . Doctor Coming Dr. A. A. Soule, M. D., of Klamath Falls is moving to Medford and will open his offices in the Medford Center building, suite 201, Oc tober 1. Returns To Duty Cpl, Ernest E. Smith returned to active duty this week, having spent the past 15 days visiting friends in Med ford and in southern California.
