Ray Erickson Marry In Med ford Miss Dorothy Cochran, daughter of Mn. Edith Cochran of Petaluma, Calif., and Col Bay Erickson, son of Mr. and Mm. J. F. Erickson of 231 S. Holly street, were united in mar riage September 11. The cere mony took place here at the Erickson home at eight o'clock in the evening, with the Rev. Harry Hansen of the Presbyter ian church reading the service. Wedding music was given by Mrs. T. M. Kurtz who sang two songs, "Dearly Beloved" - and "You'll Be So Nice To Come Home To", specially requested by the bride and groom. The bridal party stood for the cere mony beneath an archway deco rated with greenery and asters, For her wedding the bride wore a dress of soldier blue crepe and a hat with a bridal veil. Her flowers were a shower bouquet of white carnations and talisman roses. She was at tended by the bridegroom's sister, Miss June Erickson, wear ing a navy blue gown and cor sage of talisman roses. Earl Mercer was best man for Cpl. Erickson. At the reception which .fol lowed wedding refreshments were served from a table deco rated with pink and white carna tions and with the wedding cake as a centerpiece. Cpl. and Mrs. Erickson, after spending a few days at Lake o' Woods, visited briefly in Med ford and then left Friday night - for San Francisco. Cpl. Erickson is to leave soon for overseas duty with a unit of army engi neers. He is a topographical draftsman and recently finished his training at the University of Kentucky. Mrs. Erickson, senior student nurse at Franklin hospi tal In San Francisco, will con tinue with her training there. The Erickson family has re sided In Medford for a great many years and is well known. Cpl. Erickson attended the Med ford schools. DJL.R. Chapter '.' Opens Program . Next Saturday ' Opening its program of fall activities, Crater Lake Chapter of the Daughters of the Amer ican Revolution will meet Saturday,- Sept. 28. Mrs. Thomas Young will be hostess to the chapter for the afternoon at her home on Route 1 and is to be assisted by Mrs. H. D. Byington and Miss Jane Snedicor, Lt. Corinne D'Alblnl, nurse at the station hospital at Camp White, will be guest speaker and will give few high lights on army nursing. Several mu sical numbers are also belnj arranged and tea will be served. Those wishing transportation are asked to contact Mrs. T. !. Olfford, regent, at 6304," eve '" Ensign Amd Mrs. Gleason Visit Relatives Here Ensign and Mrs. Ted Glcason recently spent a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gleason of the Jacksonville Star Route. Ensign Gleason, a well known Medford student before going into the navy, was com missioned last June and has now completed his training as a naval fighter pilot. Mrs. Glea son is the former Miss Sue Lewis of Portland. Following their visit here the young couple returned to Norfolk, Va., where Ensign Gleason reported for as signment to active duty with the naval air corps reserve, Miss Hammond Returns From California City Miss Virginia Hammond ar rived in Medford last week from San Francisco and will make her home with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Ham mond of Fern Valley. Miss Ham mond has been in San Francisco for the past two years, having gone there to reside after gradu ation from the University of Oregon. Mrs. Nancy Wilson Is Honored Sunday In Central Point Central Point Honoring Mrs. Nancy Wilson, who celebrated her 88th birthday last Sunday, open house was held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Foster in Central Point. The affair' was sponsored : by members of the Central Point Women's Relief Corps, Mrs. Wil son being the . second oldest member of that order. Oldest member is Mrs. Mattle Smith, who was 88 years old last spring. Twenty-four friends called during the afternoon to greet Mrs. Wilson. ' Mrs. ' Wilson, who was born Nancy Ellen Hall September 12, 183S, in Iowa, crossed. the plains in . 1898 with her parents who settled at Yamhill on the Sdo river.. She was married to Slmson Wilson in 1871 at Llnk ville, now Klamath Falls, Ore., being the first white couple to be married in that town. Their first daughter, Emma, was the first white girl born in Link vllle. - The family moved to Trail In 1896 and to Central Point in 1810, where Mrs. Wilson has lived since. Four of her eight children are now living and are Thomas Wilson of Rogue River; Pearl Bnlke of Willlts, Calif.; William Wilson of Toledo, Ore., and Mrs. Foster of Central Point. She has 31 grandchil dren and 38 great grandchildren. In spite of her advanced age Mrs. Wilson leads an active life. This spring she planted a Vic tory garden, has cared for it and is now engaged In canning and preserving its products. Juvenile Club Meets On Spats Home Lawn Juvenile Degree of Honor met Sept. 11 for a lawn party at the Spatz home, 922 S. Oak dale Ave., with Martha Spatz as hostess. Jean Peart was presi dent for the meeting. Carl Mark, HI, was announced as a new member. Zelda Gay received her service cap and Bertha Mil ler her sunshine cap. Visitors were Patsy Mce and Mildred and Grace Allwyn Gail of Gold Hill. The Gail girls each reported purchase of a bond. Freddy Miller and Jean Peart received prizes. At the close a watermelon feed was served by the Juvenile director, Mrs. Ida Wilson, assisted by Jean Peart. New comb, who made their home in Medford for many years, is the. announcement of the wed ding of Miss Jeanne Lorraine Englcrt of Colorado Springs, to their son, 'Thomas D.. Newcomb of Los Angeles. The Englert-Newcomb' rites took place Wednesday, Sept. 8, the Informal ceremony being read at the home of Peyton H. Newcomb In Los Angeles by the Rev. David Bornett, Jr., of the Presbyterian church. The bride, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Manke of Colorado Springs, wore an aquamarine blue suit trimmed with rose and a headdress of flowers with a rose colored veil. Her flowers were a bouquet of pink roses. '' Mrs. Kenneth Bishop of In glewood was matron of honor, wearing a black ensemble, with lace trim and a corsage of pink rosebuds. Kenneth Bishop was best man and the bride was given in marriage by Edwin Davis. A reception for 60 guests followed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Newcomb are on a wedding trip end upon their return will reside In the Crenshaw section of Los An geles. Mr. Newcomb is a grow er for the Gold Medal Whole sale Nursery company of Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Newcomb left here about 10 years ago and since have resided In Gardena, Calif. Mr. Newcomb was In business in the city, having been a fuel dealer. A brother of the groom, Paul B. Newcomb, continues to reside here. Mrs. Richard Finch Will Join Husband Mrs. Richard Finch and In fant daughter left last week for Texas to Join Aviation Cadet Finch, who is at Brayton's Fly ing school, Cuero, for his prim ary training. Enreute Mrs. Finch will stop In Mineral Wells, Tex., where she will bo a guest of Lt. and Mrs. Walkor Treccc. Mrs. Finch is the former Jean Hcnsclman and Mrs. Treeco was formerly Jean Scbulcr. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Mary Weston, 36 North Peach street and the late Gustav Weston, and Mr. Gray's parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Gray of Jamestown, N. D. Father Francis W. Black per formed the service at 8 o clock and immediately after Mr. and Mrs. Gray left for Madras, Ore., where Mr. Gray is an engineer with Morrison and Knudsen. For the ceremony and traveling the bride wore a dark blue en semble with white accessories and a gardenia corsage. The bride has many friends here. Medford is her birthplace and she attended St. Mary's academy, graduating from the school. Mr. Gray is a graduate of Jamestown university. Musical Society Meets Tomorrow At Lemery Home Medford Musicial society will meet tomorrow night for the first time since the summer va cation and on the program will be Cpl. Max Tiegar, native of Hungary and a former opera singer. The meeting will be at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Charles W. Lemery, Windsor avenue, beginning at 8 p. m. Cpl. Tiegar, who is stationed at the Medford army air base. will speak on "Appreciation of Music Appreciation" and In ad dition will, give a number of Hebrew chants and will sing one of his own compositions. Cpl. Tiegar has had an extensive musical education under teach ers both in Europe and in this country. Heading the Musical society this year is Mrs. J. E. Russell as president. Mrs. Lemery is serv ing as vice president and Mrs. Harold Head is secretary. Serv ing as treasurer is Mrs. E. N. DePrez, Mrs. L. L. Sanders and Mrs. John Day will assist Mrs. Lemery tomorrow night. Prospect Women Recent Hostesses Prospect Mrs. Don' Chase was hostess for a bridge lunch eon recently at her home near No: 3 Copco ' plant. At the luncheon covers were laid for Mrs. E. W. Mistletoe Club Meeting To Be At Lovell Home ' Mrs. E. M. Lovell will enter tain members of the Mistletoe Club Wednesday afternoon at her home, 326 Edwards St., for dessert at 1:30 o'clock. Last meeting of the club was held at the Girls' Community club. Although she could not be present, Mrs. Lottie Daniels had made arrangements for the members to be her guests for that meeting. The bridal party was pre ceded to the altar by a guard of honor made up of Sgt. Charles D. Jamison, Sgt. Fred J. Vig neault, Cpl. Ewald W. Berger, Cpl. Donald E. Cartwright, Cpl. Delf A. Norona and Cpl. Manuel P. Langoria. Miss Swenson, given in mar riage by her father, wore a suit of soldier blue with fur trim. Her flowers were a corsage of orchids and bouvardla. Earl Rist was best man for Sgt. Poling and Raymond Blow ers was usher. A reception was given after the ceremony at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Goss in College Park for a large assem blage of relatives and friends. Assisting with the reception were the Misses Beth Prince, Beth Lillard, Betty Finlay and Virginia Wilson. Following the reception Sgt. Poling and his bride left for a wedding trip to the Rogue River valley. Mrs.' Poling made the trio to Davis to attend the wedding. sgt. poling graduated from Medford high school with the class of 1941 and enlisted in the army air corps In August of 1942. He is to be assigned to a new station soon. The bride at one time lived in Ashland and attended the Ashiand schools until the family left two years ago to reside in Davis. District Officer Of Mission Board Will Speak Here Miss Ellanore Ewinar. said tn be a speaker of unusual ability, will be heard at the meeting of the Women's -Misionary society of the First Presbyterian church Tuesday in the social hall of the church. . Miss Ewlng is district secretary for the Board of Na tional Missions for the Pacific northwest, with offices in San Francisco.' The work of the Board of National Missions extends from Point Barrow, Alaska, to the West Indies and comprises 8,206 enterprises with 3,092 mission aries, the gospel being preached in 64 languages. Miss Ewlng has visited many of these stations and gives a vivid pic ture of the people who are try ing to build a better America. The devotional service will be led by Mrs. P. Johnson, wife of Chaplain Johnson, and special music is to be given by Mrs. W. McAllister. Dessert luncheon will . be served at 1:30 p. m. without charge and to which every one is invited. A nursery will be provided for the children and a free will offering for missions will be taken. Livesay was hostess Tuesday noon at a luncheon which honored her house guest, Mrs. Edgar Barratt of Miami, Fla. Mrs. Barratt left .Wednesday after having been here for several days. The luncheon was given at the Outpost. Guests were seated at small tables attractively ar ranged with red, white and blue appointments and centered with summer flowers. Assisting with the serving were the Misses Pat Farrell, Lois Pringle and Julie Carpenter. Mrs. Livesay's guests were Mrs. Barratt, Mrs. William E. Crist, Mrs. A. S. V. Earl Wheelock Married In South Announcement has been made here of the wedding of Miss Shirley Ebnother, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ebnother of Ashland to Lt. Earl Wheelock, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Wheel ock, 616 West Jackson Blvd.. Medford. The ' wedding took place September 11 in Bakers- field, Calif., at the Methodist church there with Dr. Christian, pastor of the church, reading the service. Attendants were Lt. and Mrs. Knolder. Lt. and Mrs. Wheelock will make their home at Bakersfield since the lieutenant is a basic flying instructor at Minter Field near there. Lt. Wheelock has been in the army since Decem ber of 1941; enlisting after com pleting his education at Med ford senior high school and the Southern Oregon College of Education, where he took civil ian pilot training. Mrs. Wheelock attended the Ashland schools and the edu cation college and - later was employed at Camp White and In the Broady drugstore ' in Ashland. Mrs. Kurtz Speaks. At Zonta Meeting Medford Branch of Zonta In ternational met for luncheon Monday noon at the Girls' Com munity club, with Mrs. H. W. Conger and Mrs, J. W. Grigsby as hostesses. Mrs. Georgia Hollo- way, president, presided at a short business meeting. Plans for delegates to attend the fall conference in Eugene In October were discussed, and plans were made for a rummage sale to be given by members of the club. Birdseye, son of Mrs. Effie Birdseye of Gold HiU. Mr. Birds eye's bride is the former Mrs. Claretta Lee Snellstrom, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Han sen of Hayden Bridge, near Eugene, and they were married August 25 at the home of the bride's parents. The, ceremony was a double wedding, with Miss Jo Alyce Brewer of Seattle becoming the bride of the Hansen's son, Har vey H. Hansen, at the same time. The two couples exchanged vows before an improvised altar decorated with flowers and miniature wedding bells. Read ing the service was the Rev. Harry Crouse of the Springfield Metbodist church and preceding the ceremony Mrs. Winsor Calk ins of Eugene gave harp solos. Mrs. Snelistrom wore a white satin wedding gown with a bou quet of sweetheart roses and sweetpeas and bands of these flowers in her hair. Her matron of honor, Mrs. Earl Carpenter wore pale blue taffeta with a corsage of sweetpeas and roses. Little Harvey Eugene Snell strom carried the four rings on a silver tray. Best men for the two bride grooms were Victor Birdseye and his son, Ted Birdseye, of Medford.' At the reception Mrs. Hansen and Mrs. Brewer served the cakes and Mrs. Birdseye served punch. After the reception the two couples left for Seattle where both bridegrooms are in the naval reserve and are em ployed by Pan American Air ways of that city. Attending the wedding were Miss Mary Ann Birdseye of Medford and Roy Cameron of Gold Hill. - - David Birdseye is a member of one of the county's oldest pioneer families. He is the youngest grandson of the pio neer merchant, D. N. Birdseye of Jacksonville, who was in busi ness in that town as early as 1852. In San Francisco : Of Interest Here A large wedding in San Fran cisco last Monday, is. of interest to many valley residents, the wedding being that of Patricia Rose Lowrey to Lt. John A. Hooper. . . The bride's parents, Lt. Comdr.. and Mrs, Alan J. Lowrey, have a vacation home on the Rogue River - near here and the family has spent much time there over a period of years. . The wedding was at St Luke's Episcopal church in - the bay city, the church having been decorated with white dahlias and gladioli for the ceremony. The Rev, John Leifler read the. service, For her wedding, the bride wore the traditional white satin, with Duchess lace from her mother's wedding gown and her mother's wedding veil.
