Jan. 2 (U.B The United States rounded out the year 1942 this week with predic tions that 1843 will bring furth er sharp gains in production, na tional income and employment. That was the consensus of leaders in business, finance and government. Year - end state ments showed a unanimity sel dom equaled. Boiled down, their views for 1043 follow: Production Over-all Indus trial output of the United States is expected to rise 20 per cent in 1943 over 1942, with increas ing emphasis on production. of armaments at the expense of civilian articles. Production of combat armaments, now esti- moted as equal to that of the Axis powers combined, is ex pected to reach a grand total at least equal to all the other na tions of the world combined. National Income With the government expected to spend almost $100,000,000,000 for war purposes in the calendar year 1943 almost double expendi tures in the past year, it is be lieved that national income will reach $133,000,000,000, or $18 000,000,000 over the record set In 1942. Employment It Is forecast that some 8,000,000 people who do not ordinarily work for a liv ing will be called to enter the nation's labor force and that an additional 3,000,000 persons now employed in non-war industries will be drafted for war work. The net gain for the year, how ever, is not expected to be much over 3,000,000 becausesome 5, 000,000 men may be called up during the year for military service. Mr. Auten. born December 20, 1872, in Indiana, spent most of his life In Klamath Falls. He is survived by thret chll dren, Mrs. Eino Hemmlla, for Medford; Mrs. Harry Lloyd, of Tacoma, Wash , and Glyn Auten of Portland; also two grand children, Georgia and Michael Hemmlla, of this city. Society and Clubs By Betty Shower Honors Bride Monday At Rammin Home Mrs. Hans Rammin was host ess at a miscellaneous shower last Monday evening at her home, 831 West 12th street hon oring Miss Louise Keesee, whose wedding to Staff Sgt, Cornish C. Sutherland was an event of Friday evening at Camp White. Cards were at play with high scores being held by Mrs. Frank Martin, Mrs. Lou Bittle, Mrs. Fred Purdin and Mrs. Suther land. Mrs. Sutherland Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H Wayne Keesee of 28 South Peach street. Attending the affair were the Mesdames Orville Hayes, Fred Purdin, Lou Bittle, Wayne Kee see, Floyd Lewis, Martin Webb, Lou Rogers, Floyd Walker, Frank Martin, William Milnes. Business Women Hear Two Speakers Business and Professional Women heard Mrs. Mabel Har grove, field director for Amer ican Red Cross at Camp White, and Miss Percy Margaret Gill, recreational director for Red Cross at Camp White hospital, yesterday noon at a luncheon meeting at the Hotel Holland. ' Mrs. Hargrove explained du ties of the Red Cross chapters as a liaison between the chap ter and the family and said that the first obligation of the chap ter Is to the soldier's family. She also explained that Red Cross articles are not sold to soldiers as is the rumor being circulated. Proper recreational facilities at the camp hospitals are a boon to patients, according to Miss Gill, who explained the various projects which are used in the hospitals to aid the patients. Sunday church services, band concerts, and work projects are among the activities. The club members will hold their next meeting at the Out post Thursday, Jan. 21, and the following meeting, Feb. 4, will be held at the Girls Community clubhouse. Dec. 29. for a special service to be held Jan. 10 when the last mortgage of the First Methodist church will be burned. A cov ered dish dinner will be served following the morning service snd an appropriate service with special speakers has been ar- ransed. Mrs. Harry Nichols presided during the absence of Mrs. W. W. Walker. Mary and Martha circle, aided by other circles, have purchased two new rugs for the sunshine oarlor. Allen Mariner's Class Installs New Officers for 1943 The good ship "Msrlner" docked at "Fellowship Port" Wednesday evening for the in stallation of officers in the Mar iners class of the First Christian church. Rev. R. w. Coleman installed the following officers in a very impressive candlelight service: Georgia and Herbert Burnham, skippers; Fredene and Shlrrell Doty, quartermasters; Isolea and Wayne Wakefield, pursers; Virginia Younger, histo rian and publicity chairman; Sal ly and Claude Cooper, Evelyn and Ernest Savage, and Virginia and Ralph Cook, mates for the crews. The psrty was In the form of the docking of the ship to take on new officers, crews and cargo, and 29 friends and members of the class were "recruited" for the evening. Decorations and games were in keeping with nau tical themes. Skipper Mabel Smith presid ed at a short session to close the business for 1942, then turned the meeting to Skippers Georgia and Herbert Burnham, who will lead the group for 1943. The following appointments ware made: Yvonne Haggard, shower arrangements chairman; Doro thy and Irwin Doty, class repre sentatives in the women's and men'a organizations of the church. The starboard crew, manned by Mates Agnes and Price Sha rer, was host for the evening and were assisted by Yvonne Haggard, Virginia Younger. Fredene Doty. Mrs. Agnes Mey er, Rev. and Mrs. R. W. Coleman. Junior Hostesses Hold Banquet A midyear candlelight banquet for USO hostesses was held Mon day evening at Ehrheart's on South Riverside avenue. The ta bles were set with red candles, holly and silver pine cones, with Mrs. A. M. Andrews and Mrs. r. G. Norbury in charge of decora tions. The girls under the supervi sion of Mrs. Larry Schade, Junior hostesa chairman; Mra. William Holloway, co-chairman, and Mrs. Penny Fontaine, USO director, discussed problems which hsve arisen during the past few weeks Plans for the program at the Bandbox, new USO center, also were discussed. S. army air force, home from Australia, told the girls about action In the combat area and conditions under which soldiers live and showed pictures of peo ple in Australia. He said that the soldiers were much in need ot magazines, books, razor blades and that If these were mailed to them they would get through. He also stated that men have little or no recreation and the few reading materials they have are worn to shreds. Chapter Honors Retiring Officers The officers of Nevita chapter. No. 93 Order of Eastern Star, pre sented an addenda to the retir ing worthy matron. Bertha Bon ney, and worthy patron, Ed Vin cent, the evening of Dec. 22. Gifts were presented to the honored officers by Mr. and Mrs. Hensley Holt. The final bond on the new rarnet for the chapter room war paid and William Bishop, head of the finance committee for the ourchase of the carpet, commend ed the entire chapter on their spirit of cooperation In the orolei-t. Following the meeting Alice Brill, daunhter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Brill, accompanied by Mrs Sam Koehler, entertained with several violin selections. Christ mas carols were led by Mrs Marjorle Pna.
