OREGON, SUNDAY, DECEMBER 27, 1942 Announce Betrothal Charlotte Camming At Christmas Tea Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sheldon Cummins announced the be trothal of their daughter. Char lotte, to Lt. Samuel Lyle Hc Corkle of Charleston, West Vir ginia, at a large tea Christmas day at their home, 1811 E. Main street The wedding will take place in Medford in the near future. The Cummins home was dee orated in the traditional Christ mas manner for the announce ment tea. Miss Cummins wore a dress of fuschia crepe with an orchid corsage. Assisting in the dining room during the after noon were the Misses Margaret Mary and 'Janet Mann, Mrs. George Rasmussen and Mrs. Al lyn Monroe. About 125 guests called during the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Cummins and their daughter have resided In Medford for the past few months having come here from New York and Chicago, the latter city having been their home for many years. Miss Cummins at tended the University of Chicago and later spent two years at Chevy Chase school in Washing ton, D. C. Her grandfather was the late James Sheldon Cum mins and her great-uncle the late Henry M. Byllesby, both of Chicago. Mr. Cummins is presi dent of the California-Oregon Power company. Lt MacCorkle la presently with the 91st Division, Camp White. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Goshorn MacCor kle of Charleston. His grand father, the late William A. Mac Corkle, was a former governor of West Virginia. Lt MacCor kle attended Woodberry Forest School in Virginia, and follow ing two years of study at Prince ton university enrolled at .Wash ington and Lee university where he studied law. On completing his law course he was admitted to the bar in West Virginia and in 1941 enlisted in the armed forces. Arbecca Burton Weds Lt. Onstad At Camp White Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Burton of Natrona Heights, Pa., have an nounced the marriage of their daughter, Arbecca, to Lt. Noel R. Onstad of Camp White, a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Onstad of Sacramento, Calif. . The cere mony was read December 12. In the 351st regimental chapel at the camp by Chaplain De Moor. The bride wore for the cere mony a dress of winter blue with nubonet accessories and carried an old-fashioned nosegay of white shattered carnations and delight roses. She was given In marriage by Captain Frazer. Attending the bride and groom were Mrs. Marian Miller and Lt Theodore R. Shirk. Mrs. Miller wore for the ceremony a dress of brown wool with light blue accessories and carried a nosegay of pink shattered earn tions. Here for the wedding were Lt. Onstad's parents and his grandmother, Mrs. Alma Onstad of Tucson, Ariz. Lt. and Mrs. Onstad will make their home in Medford for the present Lady Lions Enjoy Christmas Party At Beck Residence Members of the Lady Lions auxiliary met at the home of Mrs. Michael Beck on the Old Stage Road Wednesday evening of last week for a Christmas party. This is an annual affair held each year at Mrs. Beck s home. A covered dish dinner was served from tables decorat ed in the Christmas motif. During the business meeting the club planned to furnish 12 needy families with toys, food and clothing for Christmas and to donate toys left from last year's distribution to the day nursery at the Christian church Members agreed to give two Monday evenings each month to work in the USO canteen. Present for the pleasant affair were Mrs. L. C. Coyle, Mrs. Frank Collins, Mrs. James Grigs- by. Mrs. Claude Haggard, Mrs. Eston Humphrey, Mrs. Leland Knox, Mrs. Earl Miller, Mrs. Marmie Olson, Mrs. R. M. Schino. Mrs. L. B. Daughters of Job Have Installation Ceremonies Tuesday Miss Betty Frey was Installed honored queen . of Medford Bethel No. 14, Daughters of Job, at the annual public installation of officers held Tuesday evening at the Medford Masonic Temple. The retiring honored queen is Miss Natalie Parker. The installation ceremonies were conducted by Miss f-arker assisted by Miss Jeanne Smith, installing guide; Miss Jackie McBee, installing marshall, Miss Beverly Brooks, chaplain; Miss Pat Dippel, custodian; Miss Ger aldlne Jerome, junior custodian; Miss Eva Hedrick, secretary; Miss Mary Lee Strang, muse and Mrs. Esther Sanderson, past bethel guardian who substituted for Mrs. William A. Holloway, present guardian. Ann Conroy; inner guard, Helen Rubenstein; outer guard, Car men Wright. During Miss Frey's installa tion as honored queen Miss Webb sang "We Love You Truly", accompanied by Miss Weisenburger. Following the ceremonies the new queen was presented with a bouquet of roses by Miss Parker and Miss Webb, with appropriate verse. During the presentation the new officers, formed into a lighted cross, sang "Silent Night". L. P. Older, associate guardian of the bethel, presented Miss Frey and Miss Parker with bouquets of roses. Other presentations were to Miss Parker as retiring queen, and to Mr. and Mrs. Hitzler, from the bethel. At the close of the evening refreshments were served by a committee headed by Mrs. V. W. Hammond and Miss Geraldine Jerome. A.A.U.W. Meets At Shepherd Home Mrs. Robert Shepherd enter tained A-A.U.W. members at her borne on Saginaw Drive Satur day afternoon, Dec. 19, for the December monthly meeting. Speaker for the afternoon was Mrs. Mabel Hargroves of ' the American Red Cross at Camp White, Mrs. Hargroves explain ed the work of the Red Cross at the camp in connection witn hos pitalized service men and their families. A musical program was given by a vocal trio consisting oi Mrs. George Wendt, Mrs. Dar rell Huson and Mrs. William McAllister. Following the pro gram tea was served. About 200 members of the group were pres ent New Year's Eve Dance Redman Will Sponsor A New Year's eve dance will be given by th Redmen's lodge at the lodge hall for members of the group, Pocahantas mem bers and their invited guests. NOW IT'S MAIL GIRL Flagstaff, Ariz., Dec. 25 U.FD The mall boy here became a mail girl today, for thj first time in the history of Arizona State Teachers' college. Miss Lou Balch, IB, today officially took over the duties of mail boy. delivering mall from the Flagstaff pottoffice to living quarters on the campus. Retiring Queen Guest of Honor At Formal Dance Honoring Miss Natalie Parker, retiring queen, members of Med ford Bethel No. 14, Daughters of Job, entertained last night at the annual formal Queen's ball. The ball was given at the Lin coln school gymnasium in a lovely setting of Christmas greenery. Music was furnished by an 11-piece high school or chestra. General chairman In charge of the dance was Miss Betty Frey, new queen of the bethel for the coming year. She was assisted by Miss Betty McKenzie as decorations chairman. Miss Helen Webb, program chairman; Miss Joanne Utz, patrons and patronesses; Miss Betty Rose, dance programs; Miss Betty Jane Johnson, invitations; Miss Ruth Andrews, refreshments, and Miss Shirley Weisenburger, music. The ball opened with a grand marchi led by Miss Parker, and was followed by the queen's waltz. During an Intermission vocal numbers were given by Miss Mary Lou Swoape and Leo Miksche, with Miss Louire Lawrence at the pit.no. Patrons and patronesses for me affair were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. A. Cox in Home Ceremony The wedding of Miss Betty Olds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Olds and Sgt. James Cox took place Tuesday evening of last week at the family home. 311 Genesee street. The cere mony was read by the Rev. R. W. Coleman of the Christian church. The bride and groom were at tended by Miss Thelma Kaplon and Corp. Barney Cronner. For the ceremony Miss Olds wore a smart suit of light brown and a corsage of gardenias and nar cissi. Miss Kaplon wore an after noon dress of velvet with a gar denia corsage. The Olds home was decorated with poinsettas and a Christmas tree formed the setting for the wedding party. Following the ceremony a wedding supper was served, with the bride and groom cut ting a large wedding cake. Guests for the ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. John Klibon, Miss Margaret McSarty, Miss Nancy Olds and Sgt. Sanford Cohen. Mr. and Mrs. Cox will make their home in Medford at 344 Vi S. Grape street Mrs. Cox has lived in Medford several years and last year attended Medford high school. Sgt. Cox, now sta tioned at Camp White, is from Houston, Texas. Recently the bride was hon ored at a shower for which Mrs. Klibon was hostess at her home. 534 S. Fir. Ten close friends of Mrs. Cox were guests. Holiday Parties At Camp White Club Enjoyable Affairs Wednesday night of this week another of the enjoyable week ly dances will be held at Service Club No. 1 at Camp White in building T 400 on Division Road. Music will be furnished by the 91st artillery band. Wives of all enlisted men are especially Invited according to Mrs. Curtis Hopkins, director of the club, and reservations for transportation may be made by calling the Outpost, 5765. Buses will leave the Chamber of Com merce at 7:30 o'clock. A feature of the dance will be special intermission music ar ranged by Mrs. Hopkins. Last week a formal Christmas ball was given at the club which was an especially gay affair. Decorations of holly and mistle toe and a beautiful Christmas tree formed a lovely setting for the party. Young ladies from Medford, Ashland, Grants Pass and Central Point added color. Refreshments were served during the evening and follow ing an entertaining floor show T.-as staged. Guild Will Elect At Monday Meeting Election of officers will be held at the December meeting of St. Mark's Evening Guild to be held tomorrow night at the parish hall on North Oakdale avenue at 7:30 o'clock. The nom inating committee is Mrs. V. J Robinson, Mrs. Ward Bebb, Mrs O. L. Williams and Mrs. Vera Strader. Hostesses will be Mrs. Elwood Hedberg. Mrs. Glenn Swanson and Mrs. George Bar num. The business meeting will be followed by a social hour. Medford Woman Leaves Mrs. Fletcher Fish left last night for Portland to spend a week's vacation with her moth er, Mrs. Cora Carman. SSI mm iBA motto Vromans Celebrate Diamond Wedding At Home of Son The sixtieth anniversary of their wedding was celebrated Christmas Day by Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Vroman of 122 Tripp street well known Medford residents who have made their home here tor 33 years. The anniversary was celebrated quietly with friends and relatives at the home of the Vromans' son. Orris G. Vroman and family in Klam ath Falls. . Mr. and Mrs. Vroman were married in Mankato, Minn., on ChiUtmas day, 1882. They came to Medford in 1909 and Mr. Vroman has been in business here ever since. In addition to the son residing in Klamath Falls the Vromans have a daughter, Mrs. Matie Muener gardt of Medford. The kindergarten of the church school presented a program under the direction of Mrs. Jack Walker,- superintend ent, Mrs. Ivan Harrington and Mrs. Bruce Bauer. About 200 children, parents and friends were in attendance. Santa Claus appeared and presented gifts to all the chil dren, including kifts to Mar garet Selby, Jay Walker, Susan Hubbard. Billy Reaney, Bar bara Bauer, Sheila S pence and Nancy Hamilton for perfect at tendance at church school. Harris In Chapel Rites Colonel and Mrs. W. F. Scheu mann of Medford last week an nounced the marriage of their daughter, Ruth Ellen, to Lt Montague Harris of Montclair, New Jersey. The ceremony was read Sunday, December 13 at chapel No. 4 at Camp White by Chaplain Murphy at four o'clock In the afternoon. For her wedding Miss Scheu mann wore a blue suit with brown accessories and her wed ding flowers were gardenias and rose buds. Attendants were Lt and Mrs. Robert Lumpkin of Medford. Following tha cere mony a reception was held at the 382nd Infantry Officers club at the camp. Lt. and Mrs. Harris went to Portland for a ahort weddina trio. The Scheumanns came here from Vancouver where Col. Scheumann was previously sta tioned. Prior to that the Scheu manns lived In Washington, D, C, and Mra. Harris attended school in that city. Mrs. Braley To Spend Holidays With Son Mrs. C. Reese Braley left yes terday for Florida to spend the New Year's holiday with her tm, Kenneth Patton, who has recently been commissioned a lieutenant in the army air corps. Lt Patton is stationed at Boci Raton field near Palm Beach. Following her visit in Florida Mrs. Braley will spend a short time with her brother. Major Albert Warner In Washington. D. Club Enjoys Yule Party Members of the F.L. club of the Rebekah lodge, held their annual Christmas party Saturday evening, December 19th, in the I. O. O. F. lodge hall.
