Bicycle Stolen Robert West of Central Point reported to city police yesterday that his bicycle was stolen from near a local the ater. West Is employed by the Western Union. At Farragut Reporting as a U. S. naval recruit at the Farra gut (Idaho) Naval Training sta tion this week was Roy Arthur Reed, son of Mr. and Mrs Harry Reed of Route 2, according to word received from the station. Marriage Intention William R. Wright of the U. S. navy, whose home is in Central Point, and Anne P. Quigley of Dorches ter, Mass., recently filed an in tention to wed in Boston, Mass., according to a clipping from the Boston Post, received here. Hour Changtd Officers of Daughters of Job announced to day that installation ceremonies of the order, scheduled for this evening, will be at 7 o'clock at the Masonic Temple-instead of at 7:30 o'clock as previously announced. Accident Reported Richard Rlggs. 816 W. Eleventh street. rifting a bicycle, was struck by a car driven by Joe C. Wessen dorff of Camp White on East Main street Tuesday night, ac cording to a report by city po lice. Rlggs was uninjured but considerable damage resulted to the bicycle. Meeting Postponed The reg ular meeting of Crater Lake Aerie No. 2093 will not be held this week since It would come on Christmas Eve, it was announc ed today. Officers also said the club would not be open on Christmas Day. The next regular meeting of the lodge will be on New Year s Eve. e e Here From Alaska Sgt. Al bert Charles Andre is visiting . his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Andre of Jacksonville and other relatives and friends in the val ley. Sgt. Andre has been sta tioned in Alaska for the past 21 months with an air squadron, this being his first furlough since going to the Alaskan sta tion. Sgt, Andre was graduated from the Eagle Point high school in 1938. Men To Train Tod Tlbbutt and Maurice J. Sample, both of whom enlisted in the air corps the middle of November and who have been stationed at Santa Ana air base in California, have passed their examinations and qualified for pilots training, according to word received here Mrs. Tibbutt and Mrs. Sample left Monday for Santa Ana to spend the holidays with their husbands. Mrs. Tibbutt plans to remain In the south, but Mrs. Sample will return to Medford after a two weeks vacation. Ettinger Commissioned Rob ert Lewis (Bobby) Ettinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Ettinger of 824 West 12th street, was commissioned as ensign in the U. S. Naval Reserve and was designated a naval aviator at graduation ceremonies held re cently at the U. S. Naval Air Station, Corpus Christ!, Tex., " according to a press release from there. Ettinger, a former Medford high football, basket ball and track star, received his primary Instructions at the naval reserve aviation base, Seattle, Wash., after which he was transferred to Corpus Christ! for advanced training. To New Mexico Mrs. Chester Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Slusser, left here recently to join her husband. Pvt. Ches ter Clark, who is stationed at Hoblls, N. M., with the army air forces. Pvt. Clark is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clark, Mc- Andrews road. Teacher Promoted Word has been received in Medford of the election of Miss Rose Haldeman as superintendent of the Forest Grove elementary . schools to succeed R. L. Ervin, who has enlisted in the armed forces. Miss Haldeman was on the staff of the Medford Junior high school about 12 years ago. Tire rationing experts of the state Office of Price Adminlstra tion will hold a meeting here today at 7:30 p. m. in the court house, to explain OPA tire In spection and mileage rationing regulations to tire dealers, in spectors and fleet operators In Medford and nearby areas. R. B. Reynolds, OPA state tire rationing representative, will be in charge of the meeting called by Hobart Price, executive sec retary of the Medford rationing board. Mileage rationing regulations will be explained by Frank Senn, OPA district mileage rationing representative, and James Hed- ric, OPA state tire examiner. will tell how to make proper tire inspections before certify ing new tires or recaps for a car. An explanation of OPA forms will be made before the meeting Is thrown open for questions. Married A letter has been received by Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Fairchild, Phoenix Jacksonville highway, announcing the mar riage of their son. Master Sergt Wayne M Fairchild. Atlanta, Ga. Sergt. Fairchild graduated from Medford high in 1940, en listed in the air corps January 28, 1941, and is now stationed at Walterboro, S. C, with the 489th bombardment squadron, m Collision Reported Passen gers in a taxi and a private car were considerably shaken up when the cab, driven by Al bert Fisch of Jacksonville Star Route, collided with a car driv en by Francis F. Hibbard, who gave his address as the Medford fire hall, last night about o'clock. The accident occurred on West Sixth street when the Hibbard car started to turn into a service station, according police records. Passengers the cab were Cecile Sweedberg and Berta Van Hill. Mary Dal ton and daughter. Alice, 346 N Front street, were passengers in the Hillbard car. ' CALLED BY DEATH Lena Estelle Hampson, 62, wife of Thomas J. Hampson. passed away at the family home, 44 Meyers court early Tuesday after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Hampson was born at Louisian na. Mo., on September 23, 1880. Mr. and Mrs. Hampson 'were married May 25, 1898, at Grand Junction, Colo., where they re sided until 1923, when they came to Medford. To this union were born Thomas Jefferson Hampson, Jr. (who died in in fancy), Mrs. Mildred Royer of Medford, Elmer D. Hampson, of Medford. Helen Dorothy Wnal- ley (deceased), Charles F. Hamp son, serving in the armed forces, and Barbara M. Hampson, stud ent at the University of Oregon, and a foster daughter, Mrs. Mary Peck of Grand Junction, Colo. Her husband, Thomas J. Hamp son, survives; also six grandchildren. Mrs. Hampson was a long time member of the Saint Mark's Episcopal church. Funeral services will Be con ducted from Perl Funeral Home. Thursday at 2 p. m.. the Rev. Father Herald Gardner, rector of Saint Mark's Episcopal church, officiating. Interment will take place in Siskiyou Me morial park. The indictments, returned yes terday, ordered the youth held on two counts at $5,000 bond each. His confessed mistress, Rosa- He M. Mayo, 17, Portland, was held as a material witness and turned over to the custody of juvenile authorities. WAAC ROBBED Boston, Dec. 23 (U.R A WAAC, Miss Evelyn T. Hale, 25, of Fort Worth, Tex., was robbed of $17 and two rings by gun man who held her up here last night on a downtown street crowded with Christmas shop pers. . . COMIC PIONEER DIES New York, Dec. 23 U.B Mrs. Minny Maude Hanff Ayes, 63, who created the comic strip character, Sunny Jim, 49 years ago, died today after an illness of several weeks.
