There will be no Scotch whis
key eggnogs on Christmas eve.
Instead, American soldiers will
toast the Yuletide In white and
vj.lira rhlnem wines, and
Chungking whiskey. These three
liquors are known, respectively,
as "killer," "head splitter'' and
"fhttnaklnff nniaon."
The only American luxuries
available for Christmas will be
cigarettes and hard candy, flown
here from India.
On the afternoon of Christmas
eve, American officers will en
tertain the men at party.

The navy said today that the
traditional Christmas dinner
turkey and all the trimmin's
will be served on Dec. 23 to
bluejackets ashore or afloat, In
this country or thousands of
miles away.
. The navy expects they will
consume 1,250,000 pounds of tur
key, 600,000 pounds of ham,
1,300,000 pounds of potatoes,
1,223,000 pounds of other vege
tables and tons of celery, cran
berry sauce and Ice cream In
their holiday dinners.

Tokyo radio reported today
the emperor of Japan presented
Wang Chlng Wei, the puppet
president of occupied China, with
the grand cross of the supreme
order of the chrysanthemum for
promoting "Japanese Chinese
friendship."
The broadcast said the emper
or and Wang met formally In
the imperial palace Tuesday
morning after Wang had spent
the night In the "Greater east
Asia guest hall."
Wang considered China No.
traitor by the free Chinese-
issued statement after the au
dience In which he paid "high
tribute to- the Japanese armed
forces for their brilliant results

U. S. AIR MISSION
NEARS BLITZ DAY

Eighth Air Force, said today that
British-based American units

aerial offensive against the Axis.

Miller, who originated the
United States Air Forces' pres

TO CUT SHORTAGE

The agriculture department an
nounced today that It will re
lease 2,000,000 cases of govern
ment-owned evaporated milk for
civilian consumption, to allevi
ate a temporary milk shortage.
The milk will be told to manu
facturers from whom it was pur-
cnasea during 1941 and early
1942, The manufacturers will
make it available to retailers for
immediate distribution to con
sumers.
The amount to be released con
sists of 96,000,000 14Vi-ounce
cans.
