sides being a soldier himself, has

William, 26; Peter, 24, and
Edward, 22, were all members
of the armed forces previous to
the outbreak of Pacific hostil
ities. Since then as members of
the regular army, they have
been in Australia, New Caledo
nia, and for some time have been
stationed in Guadalcanal, where
they have participated In most
of the action. Souvenirs sent
their father Include two types of
Japanese paper money, the regu
lar money and specially printed
occupation money for use in con
quered territories.
Private Burns was Inducted
October 18 at Seattle, Wash. Pre
viously he had been employed
by the Boeing Aircraft Company.
Before assignment to the 81st
Infantry Division St Camp White,
he was stationed briefly at Fort
Lewis, Wash. He Is 45 years of
age.
"I think the army's okay," Pri
vate Burns said. "I like it now
that I'm becoming used to it."
Previous to his connection
with aircraft production, Burns
was employed In Fargo, N. D
by a packing company. Hia three
sons have seen some desperate
fighting, he said. In their last
letter they requested that he
keep building planes, not having
heard yet that he was in the serv
ice. Son William Is corporal.
Peter is also a corporal, and Ed
ward, who has been In the serv
Ice both in the National Guard
and Regular Army for five years,
Is a staff sergeant.
A fourth son, now In Fargo, Is
17, his father said, and probably
will see service before the war
Is over.
The 81st Infantry Division to
which Pvt. Burns belongs Is the
famous "Powder River Let 'Er
Buck" division of World War 1
fame It Is commanded by Major
General Charles H. Gerhard.
