OREGON, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1942 COUNTY PIONEER, PASSES SUDDENLY William Thomas Houston, well known pioneer ot Jackson coun ty, where he was born near Jacksonville, October 20, 1865, and where he has spent his en tire lifetime of 76 years. 11 months and 11 days, passed way suddenly at his farm home on the Old Stage road north of Christmas gifts for boys over Mas must be mailed betwean October 1 and November 1 in order to reach them on time. He had been in usual health un til being stricken with apoplexy a few minutes before his demise. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Milton A. Houston, who crossed the plains to California in 18S0 and came to Jackson county before Oregon became a state. Mr. Houston was of fine Chris tian character and leaves hosts of friends throughout southern Oregon who will regret to hear of his passing. Besides his wife, Emma Frances Houston, he leaves seven children: Frank of Phoenix; Mil ton of the Applegate; Orage of Flat, Alaska; Merle, Graves Creek, Oregon; Josephine Cor- r.utt, Central Point; Eula Mlddle- busher. Prospect, and Gwen dolyn Edgecomb, Susanville, Cal. Also eleven grandchildren and one sister and one brother, Louise Rodgers of Medford and John A. Houston of Eagle Point. Funeral services will be held in the Conger chapel at 2 p. m Saturday, with Rev. Campbell of Central Point officiating. Inter ment will be in the Central Point cemetery. Closing tlm. for CUasmt sd. The gubernatorial candidate waa accompanied by Leo Car rillo, well-known stage and movie actor; Justice Craemer, president of the California Rail way Commission and a group of California newspapermen. They stopped at the Holland hotel for a short time before continuing on to Yreka, where Warren was to fill a speaking engagement last night. Warren, In the primaries, was nominated on the Republican ticket, receiving approximately 650,000 votes to 30.000 for his four opponents.
