Edwin Nichols home on ' South Holly street was the scene of double wedding last Sunday i morning when Miss Mavis Shir ley Nichols, daughter of Mr. and :Mrs. F. Edwin Nichols and Mai den L. LeRoy. son of Mrs. Jack Crump of Applegate and Miss 'Shirley Lawrence, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Lawrence and , Ray O. Sims, son of Mr. and Mrs, , H. A. Sims, all of Medford, were : married. The double ring ceremony was 'read at 11 o clock by the Dr ,Jouett Bray. The couples stood .before the fireplace of the Nich- ' ols home which was decorated ' with white baskets and vases of salmon pink gladioli and green i ery and white and pink asters tand roses were arranged about the room. 5 "Because" was played by . Roger Wolf and Mrs. Nichols. I mother of bride-elect Mavis Nichols sang "Oh, Promise Me' ' accompanied by Mr. Wolf. ; Miss Nichols wore an after- ) noon dress of burgundy silk and told gold with burgundy and old : gold accessories and an orchid corsage. Miss Lawrence wore a i navy blue silk two-piece dress with jersey cream accessories ' and an orchid corsage. The cou .' pies attended each other. ' A reception followed with fan 1 mediate relatives and friends at- tending. The bride's table was arranged with pink gladioli. ' White tapers and two wedding cakes topped with miniature brides and grooms. Mrs, Sims and Mrs. Lettoy iirsi cut me wedding cakes. ' For traveling Mrs. LeRoy .wore a natural wool suit with , green and luggage tan accessor ies. Mrs. Suns chose suit of I blue-green with Jersey cream ac ' cessories. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy left for , week's trip to coast points and i met Mr. and Mrs. Sims In Port ' land and all returned to this city where they will reside. Mrs. , LeRoy graduated from Medford I high school. Mr. and Mrs. Sims - both graduated from Medford 'high school. Mrs. Sims is em ployed at the First National . bank and Mr. Sims at Trow t bridge and Flynn Electric com pany. Local Couple Wed Friday lnReno,Nev. At simple but impressive ceremony at Reno, Nev., Friday morning, September 18, Mrs. Nellie L. Henselman, who re aides at 119 Crater Lake avenue, became the bride of Mark A. Goldy, well known Medford "business man. Reverend M. R. Case of the First PresbyterlSn church of Reno officiated. After a brief honeymoon trip to San Francisco and other Cali fornia points, Mr. and Mrs. .Goldy will return to Medford to make. their borne. "Auntie" Purucker 'Thanhs Friends , Mrs. George "Auntie" Pur lyker wishes to thank her many friends for the manner in which they played such an acceptable joke upon her, in surprising her completely on her birthday, Sep tember 9. Juvenile Club Holds Meeting A flag drill was enjoyed by member of Decree of Honor Juvenile club at the meeting yesterday morning at Townsend hall. Harriet Jones acted as president and Joan Kldwell was Initiated Into .the lodge. Vir ginia Lee Carey received her aunshlne rap and corporal stripes. Three visitors were present, Joan Vaughn, Mildred Ann and Grace Gail of Gold Hill. Mildred Ann sang a se lection with Virginia Lee play ing a piano selection. Later re freshments were served by Jean Peart and Harriet Jones. Mem bers and invited guests will meet again October 17. Local Visitors Honored At Party Miss Ann Avery of Corvallis has been a guest at the home of Miss Helen Webb of this city for 10 days and during her stay here was entertained with a swimming and dancing party at Ashland. She also enjoyed a motor trip to Crater Lake. Miss Avery and Miss Webb both for merly resided In La Grande. They are residing In Eugene. Mrs. Padget Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Dale of US South Ivy street, Jackson County Couple Wed In Church Ceremony Miss Rosle Currier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Currier of Medford and Elmer C. Relnk lng, son of Conrad Relnking of Central Point, were married last Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Presbyterian church. The service was read by the Rev. H. W. Hansen before Immediate relatives and close friends of the couple. For her wedding the bride chose a navy blue ensemble and wore a corsage of gardenias. Immediately following the ceremony the couple left for a short trip to the coast and will make their home in this city. Sojourner Club Enjoys Afternoon A social afternoon was enjoy ed by members and guests of the Medford Sojourner club at the Girls' Community clubhouse Thursday afternoon of last week. Bridge, sewing, pinochle and gin rummy comprised the entertain ment. Mrs. I. E. Staples was chair man for the afternoon assisted by Mrs. E. R. Hoppe and Mrs. C. M. Starnes. Prospective mem bers were Mrs. Robert Hiller of Milwaukee, Wis., and Mrs. Al fred Coles of Fort Bliss Tex. Mrs. Jack Clark held high score at bridge with Mrs. Walt Hoppe second; Mrs. C. F. Jacob son at pinochle. Mrs. Aldon Boese received the sewing prize and Mrs. C. M. Virtue also re ceived a gift. Chinese Consul's Daughter Visits Prospect, Sept. 19 (Spl.) Ac companying Mr. and Mrs. Nion Tucker and daughter, Miss Nan of IHirllngame to their summer home. Rogue's Roost, last week was the daughter of the Chinese consul of San Francisco. S. V. Carpenter at "Topsides" on the Old Stage road. The affair la open from 3 to 6 o'clock to members and friends of the church. Especially Invited are new residents of the valley here with Camp White. In the receiving line will be the Rev. and Mrs. Herald G. Gardner, Mrs. John Moffat and Mrs. Robert Ditewig. Next meeting will be October 9. Long-Spar tin Rites Read At Reno Baptist Church Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Long of 107 Portland avenue announce the marriage of their daughter, Bessie M. Long to Jack H. Spar lin of San Francisco. The cere mony was performed by the Rev. Brewster Adams, minister of the First Baptist church of Reno, Nev., at the Adams home. The bride wore a navy blue outfit with soldier blue accessor ies and a corsage of gardenias and a spray of white flowers. She was attended by her sister, Mrs. J. W. Henson of this city. who wore black with red acces sories and a corsage of white sweetpeas and pink flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Long'and daugh ter, Mrs. Henson- motored to Reno for the wedding. Other guests were Mrs. J. D. Gibson of Alamosa, Colo., Sergeant Jack Long, twin brother of the bride and Mrs. Long. Sergeant Long is with the marine corps. Mrs. Sparlin was well-known in Medford where she was a member of the Toastmistress club and other organizations. Until recently she was employed by the Commercial Finance com pany resigning to take a position with the soil conservation office in Klamath Falls. Paske cele brated their 25th wedding anni versary at the Paske residence on South Oakdale avenue Wed nesday evening. A small group of friends were Invited for din ner followed by an evening of cards. They were married Sept. 16.1917. The Paske have resided In Medford since 1928, coming west irom Minneapolis, Minn. They have two children, Mrs. L W. Helgren of Buffalo, N. Y.. and a son, C. H. Paske, Jr., who is serving with the U. S. navy Mrs. Paske is active in music circles in the city. Attending the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Jap Andrews, Dr. and Mrs. W. W. P. Thayer and the Paskes. - Parents Announce Marriage Of Marita Reynolds Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Reynolds of 38 North Peach street an nounce the marriage of their daughter, Mareta to Ralph H Train of this city. The ceremony was read at the First Baptist church in Reno, Nev., Monday, August 31 by the Rev. W. K. Sempey. Both are graduates of South ern Oregon College of Education and for the past three years Mr. Train has been on the faculty at Gold Hill. Mrs. Train attended San Jose State college, also where she received her bachelor of arts degree in education. They will reside at Butte Falls where Mr. Train is employed as principal of the grade school. Nona Wheat on Weds Wayne Hall Word has been received here of the marriage of Miss Nona Wheaton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wheaton of Pendleton, Ore., former Medford residents and Wayne J. Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Hall of Sutherlin, Ore., at Vancouver, Wash., Tues day, Sept. 8. They were attended by Mrs. C. W. Mabry, sister of the bride groom and Cam Wheaton, broth er of the bride. Mrs. Hall graduated from high school in Kansas and for the past several months has been employ ed in the offices at Camp White. Mr. Hall graduated from Suther lin high school and was employ ed in the Bonanza mines before taking employment at Camp White. He is now with the Susan Island shipyards at Portland where they will make their home. Travel Study Club Holds First Meeting Travel Study club met with Mrs. A. R. Hedges last Monday afternoon at which time brief talks by each member on their vacation experiences were heard. Mrs. John Gribble presented a travelogue on the southern states from Arkansas to Florida. Mrs. Earl Moore reviewed briefly Don Blanding's "Vagabond House," "Memory Room" and his latest book of poems, "Flori-1 days". DID YOU HAVE A HARD DAY? She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Moore of Trail. They are resid ing in Palo Alto. Medford Resident Weds In Stanford Chapel Miss Lyle Elaine Moore, of this city, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Moore of Trail and Arthur Kruckeberg of Palo Alto. Cal., son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kruckeberg of Los Angeles were married Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Memorial chapel at Stanford uni versity with the Rev. Mr. Jones reading the ceremony. The bride was given In mar riage by her brother, Emery Moore of Los Angeles. She wore her mother's wedding gown -of white chiffon fashioned with a three tiered skirt each edged with seed pearls. The lace bodice had a rounded neck also edged in pearls and a full length veil of tulle tell from a halo of net. She carried a colonial bouquet of asters and stephanotis. Miss Dorothy Edwards of this city, was maid of honor. She wore a blue taffeta princess style gown and carried a bouquet of pink rosebuds. JJack Krucke berg. brother of the bridegroom was best man. A reception followed at the home of the bride's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Maguire. The service table was laid with a lace cloth, a bouquet of sum mer flowers and lighted tapers. The wedding cake was first cut by the bride. Mrs. Kruckeberg graduated from Butte Falls high school and has been employed at the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph com pany in this city. Mr. Krucke berg is employed as assistant professor in the school of biology at Stanford. They will reside in Palo Alto, Cal. I. Fleming, both of Co lumbus, Ohio, were married at the chapel of the 362nd regiment at Camp White Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock with the chaplin, Delbert S. Lacquement reading we ceremony. The bride, given In marriage by Major Joiir. Brite, wore a dubonnet velveteen suit with black accessories and a corsage of orchids. She was attended by Mrs. William Boswell, who wore a powder blue suit with navy ac cessories and a gardenia corsage Lieut. Robert B. Greenberger was best man. Traditional wedding music was played by the chaplain. Burns as the bridal party entered and departed from the chapel. Ushers were Lieut. Harry Sever ance and Lieut William Wheel er. A small reception followed the wedding at the 362nd regi ment officers' club. The couple left by United Mainliner for San Francisco for a short wedding trip and will return to this city to take up residence at 333 North Holly street. Mrs. Fleming is the daughter of Murray Hoffman and Mrs. L. W. Bullock of Youngstown, Ohio and Lieut. Fleming is the son of W. W. Fleming of Columbus, Ohio. She attended Ohio State university at Columbus and Lieut. Fleming attended Miami university at Oxford, Ohio. Among those attending the ceremony were Col. Cyrus Searcy, commanding officer of the 91st division and Mrs. Searcy. College Students Enjoy Dinner Bob Holmes entertained Mon day evening at his home on Keene Way drive with a grille dinner for a number of Medford high school graduates from the class of 1942 who leave this weekend for various colleges and universities. Webber, Yale; Don Shanahan, Douglas Eden and Elmer Ba shaw, University of Oregon; Joe" Smith, Sammy Young and Bob Holmes, Oregon State col lege. Betrothal Told To Group of Friends Announcement of the engage ment of Dellene Thompson of this city and Vern Swanson of Los Angeles was revealed to a small group of friends Friday evening at Burgoynes. No date has been set for the wedding. The bride-elect is employed at the war price and rationing board office in the city hall and Mr. Swanson is with contractors at Camp White. Musical Society To Resume Activities Medford Musical Society re sumes activities after the sum mer months with a musical pro gram at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Purucker, 13 Glen Oak court Monday evening at 8 o'clock. The program, in charge of Mrs. William McAllister and committee will be given by mu sicians from Camp White. The president extends an in vitation to officers' wives from Camp White who are interested in music culture to attend and become affiliated with the so ciety. . Loccil Girls Ledve for College Miss Opal Barnhardt left Fri day evening for Corvallis where she will enter Oregon State col lege as a freshman. She complet ed her high school education at Medford high school last spring where she won numerous hon ors, among them being selected the outstanding senior girl. She plans to enroll in home econom ics. During the summer she hat been employed by Hunfs Ice Cream shop. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Barnhartof 722 Dakota street. Accompanying Miss Barnhart to Corvallis was Miss Jean Lilly who will take up a course in nursing on the Corvallis campus. Sister Expected To Arrive Today Lois Merckle of Chicago, 111., is expected to arrive in this city today for a three weeks' visit with her two sisters, Pa tricia O'Brien and Arvella Car biener.
