He was met at the airport by a trio or officers from Camp White. In Court Jeanette Sarah Brock of Lozler Lane was fined $10 In city police court today on a charge of failure to give right- of-way. She was operator of a passenger car which collided at the intersection of South Grape and West 11th street Sunday with the sedan driven by Dale H. Franklin, 419 King street. Both cars were slightly dam aged. Fined $100 Chester C. Gault, charged with operating an auto mobile while under the lnwlu- ence of intoxicating liquor, was fined $100 in city police court today and his driver's license re voked for a year. On Vacation Miss Valeria Whitney of Royalcrest Orchard is enjoying a few weeks' Vaca tion thrnuffh northern Mexico with her friend. Miss Hildelisa Fregoso of San Francisco. They planned to visit friends in Los AngeleS and San Diego and spend a week at Hotel del Cor onado, located on the peninsula between San Diego Bay and the ocean. After a short swing through northern Mexico they will return to their homes. On a similar charge the fol lowing were fined $10 or sen tenced to five days In the city Jail: Chris Hansen, Elmeda Ba ran, Claude Butler, Robert Lee McAdams, Cecil Everett coke ley, Frank Roach, William- Phea lan and Jess E. Keaton. Maude Cannon, Herman Hesstewest and Frances B. Halverson each for feited $10 bail on a similar rharif. Traffic violations Included William Davis, $3 fine for fail ure to stop at stop light and Mel Starnes, $2.50 for parking on sidewalk. s HASKINS' STORE Leon Hasklns, owner of West Side Pharmacy, was called to his store on West Main street at 5 o'clock this morning by word that an Intruder had gained entrance to the phar macy. The city police were also called to the scene to discover that a porcupine had entered the small ventilation slot on the front door. City police promptly took charge of the uninvited guest and reports from the police department Indicated that the porcupine was prooaDiy re turned to Bear creek from where it was thought he had wandered. This picture CALL ALERT FOR DEFENSE TRUCKS The transportation unit of the civilian defense committee(heavy division) called a practice alert at 3:45 a. m. Sunday. Men were Instructed to report to the committee's headquarters with trucks at Grants Pass, Med ford or Ashland, depending upon the closest point. Within thirty minutes of the alert nine trucks had reported to the Grants Pass headquarters. Within one and one-half hours from the time of the alert, sixty-five units con sisting of trucks and trailers, tractors and semi-trailers and solo trucks had reported to the combined headquarters in Grants Pass, Medford and Ash land. Twelve more units report In addition to the transporta tion units reporting, fuel trucks, ow cars, tire supply cars, serv ice cars with - mechanics and vehicles for communications re ported to headquarters. Although equipment was needed for the transportation of only 187 tons of commodities and 50 men, this being the first practice alert held by the com mittee, all trucks possible to reach were called out. This pro cedure brought one hundred fif teen men on the Job before 5:30 a. m. or within one and three quarter hours, and sufficient equipment to transport 243 tons of commodities. Owners of equipment who have not registered their trucks for use during an emergency should do so at one at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. CIVILIAN CARS AT Headquarters of the 91st In fantry Division reported today that 45 minutes after completion of the activation ceremonies at Cmp White Saturday, the en tire 91st division area was clear ed of civilian traffic. It was also reported that 2,700 civilian cars were parked In the parking lots, that 4,000 civilians were taken to and from the camp in commercial buses, and that 900 civilians were transported in trucks pro vided by the army. An estimated 10.000 civilians witnessed the impressive activation ceremonies and demonstrations. Two thousand civilians. It was reported, were conducted on tours through the camp from 8 to 10 a. m.
