Governors of three Pacific Coast states have been urged to give time off to all state em ployees who fought with the 91st Division in World War I that they may attend and be honor guests at the reactivation ceremonies of the famous fight ing division, here, Saturday. Letters were sent Governors Sprague of Oregon, Langlie of Washington, and Olson of Cali fornia, pointing out the occasion to be a "great day" in the lives of men who gave the division its great traditions. Coming In Groups Response to invitation sent 91st .veterans indicate that the three coastal states wil be rep resented by "state" delegations. A large group is coming from San Francisco, another from Seattle, while 91st veterans at Portland are planning a special coach to bring them here by rail. Citizens of Southern Oregon cities and towns have indicated they will come here in delega tions. Several communities are planning to close their business houses so that employes and em ployers alike may witness the re-birth of the Wild West Divi sion, whose new commanding of ficer, Major General C. H. Ger- hardt, has pledged it to be the greatest the U. S. has ever T IN LONDON TRIAL Somewhere In Britain, Aug. 13. (JP) The first United States army general court mar tial in Britain today acquitted Private Travis P. Hammond, 25 of charges of rape. Hammond, whose home is in Keltys, Tex., was accused of raping a 16-year-old English shopgirl who said she met him at a YMCA canteen and accom panicd him and another couple to several pubs and then to an air raid shelter. The 11-man court deliberated two hours before reaching a ver dict. The trial lasted four days. Hammond was not released Immediately. The court said only that he would not be freed "at this time." FLOOD CONTROL - Sacramento, Calif., Aug. 13. (VP) U. S. army engineers an nounced today work is being started on a flood control pro ject in the Marysville area. The contract involves movement of about 500,000 tons of earth to raise and widen the levees pro tecting the city of Marysville from Yuba river floods, at a cost of about $250,000. India has a population of S89.000.000 in an area about half the size of the United States. COURT HOUSE NEWS Mack Barbour of Klamath Falls, owner of the bucking horses and Brahma bulls which will appear in the big rodeo and horse show at the fairgrounds park Saturday and Sunday nights at 8:30 o'clock, arrived in Medford yesterday and reported that a number of ace cowboys were already here and preparing to enter the events scheduled. Barbour said that, because this is one of the few rodeos to be staged on the coast this year. glittering array of riders would participate on the " pro gram and seek the many cash prizes being offered. The Bar bour stock was to arrive here today. Barbour will be at the Hotel Allen Friday and at the fairgrounds park Saturday to re ceive entries for the rodeo. Sponsored by the Jackson County Sheriff's Posse, the ro deo and horse-show is being held in connection with the activa tion day celebration of the 91st Infantry Division. Those in charge say the exhibition of horses will be the finest ever seen in Jackson county. Special attention has been given the stock horse class. which is open to everybody. Prizes for this .class are $25 for 'irst, $15 for second and $10 for third, and those desiring to en ter may do so at the fairgrounds park at 10 a. m. Saturday. Also open to all riders are the pleasure and family horse classes, and entrants need only be in the saddle Saturday night. it was announced. Major General Charles H Gerhardt, commander of the 91st division, who will ride in the jumping horse class has an nounced that the 91st cavalry team has been drilling all week in preparation for the maneuv ers it will stage both nights of the show. A parade through the down town section of Medford will be held Saturday night, starting at seven o'clock. Everybody with a horse is Invited to ride in the parade, and will be admitted free to the arena at the fair grounds park.
