PA'GE FIVE 9 9 KLAMATH WOMAN CLAIMS ESTATE TAKENJY FRAUD Niece of Dead Husband Got Her to Sign Papers by Misrepresentation, Claim. San Francisco, Aug. 7 (JP) Pearl Bisbee, 67, of Klamath Falls, Ore., has asked federal district court to require the re turn of real and personal prop erty she contended was obtained from her through false preten ses by Georgle E. Austin, niece of her deceased husband. Mrs. Bisbee's suit, filed yes terday, set forth that while she was visiting the niece, at the lat ter's request, in the Austin home here last spring, she be come ill and went to a hospital. She said the niece brought papers there for her to sign, representing that they would make money available for hos pital expenses- Mrs. Bisbee signed without paying much at tention to the nature of the papers, she said, only to learn later they were documents giv ing Mrs. Austin title to every thing she owned. Took Bank Account The young woman went to Klamath Falls April 8, the peti tion stated, and removed from Mrs. Bisbee's bank account and safe deposit box $3,150 in cash, $3,000 worth of war bonds, the contract for a lot in Altamont acres, automobile ownership papers and jewelry valued at about $2,000. Later she returned to San Francisco and apparently in duced Mrs. Bisbe to sign over to her the deed to the prop erty, the bonds and the car, the petition said, although the widow still was very ill and had no recollection of her act. Mrs. Bisbee said she was held "virtual prisoner" by Mrs. Austin until July 26, but then managed to "smuggle out" a letter to another niece, Marie Coulter of Portland. The second niece arrived here July 29 and confronted Mrs. Austin with a demand for an explanation. The latter assertedly replied that she now owned all the property and didn't intend to give it up. Under new state guard regula tions, men between the ages of 17 and 21, can be enlisted in state guard units for a one-year period, providing they have their parents' or guardians' con sent, Capt. San Quentin, Calif., Aug. 7 (VP) Maurice L. Briggs, 26, of Los Angeles, was executed In the San Quentin poison gas chamber today for murder of Nat Ross, former film producer. Briggs, who once told the board of prison terms and pa role, that he would rather die than have his sentence commut ed to life Imprisonment, went to his death calmly. "Everything is okeh, warden," he told Warden Clinton T. Duf fy, Just before he entered the death chamber. "I'm all right." As the doors closed on the air-tight chamber, Briggs raised one hand in final salute to wit nesses. The guards had failed to strap down one arm. The door was quickly opened and the hand secured.
