Green of Central Valley, Calif., former well-known Jacksonville resi dent, is in Community hospital recovering from a recent major operation. She is able to see visitors. Car StoUn Tom Earl Smith of Central Point reported yester day to Medford police that his Plymouth coach had been stolen from in front of a restaurant, 16 N. Riverside avenue, where he parked it while having a meal. Fines Levied Failure to stop at stop signs brought three auto ists into Justice court who were fined $1.00 and costs. They were John Pruess of Grants Pass, Perry E. Dameron and Donald A. Perkins of this city. The offenses occurred on the Midway road and Crater Lake highway, at Four Corners. Here From Eugene Miss Evelyn Brockway spent the week-end in Medford at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Brockway, Rt. 2. Miss Brockway is attending a class in airplane mechanics instruction being conducted in Eugene. She is the only young woman in a class of 19. Hav Guests Dr. R. R. Jones of Portland is visiting in Med ford at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira C. Jones, and his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Brockway. He will be Joined today by Mrs. Jones who is en route home from California and the two will remain for a further visit. An other guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jones is Cecil Carpenter of Oak land, Calif., an old-time school mate of Mr. Jones. Report Accidents L. N. Younger, 611 W. Eleventh street reported yesterday that a car struck the automobile he was driving at the corner of Central avenue and Main street Tuesday. He stated the offending driver did not stoo. R. L. Swanberg of Trail and Alfred Schedler of Medford drove cars Involved in an accident on N. Riverside ave nue Tuesday according to a re port on file, the accident occur ring when Swanberg backed into the curb to park. Leota Mae Moore. 611 W. Tenth street, and Chester Fitch, R. I, drove cars damaged in an accident on Main street near Central avenue Tues day, the report filed stating that Mr. Fitch struck the Moore car when he pulled out from the curb. Grass Fire The city fire de partment's chemical truck an swered a call yesterday after noon to extinguish a grass fire at 119 Lincoln street. Visitor Hare Mrs. Fred G. Armstrong and son. Jack, of Phoenix. Arizona, arrived in the valley Sunday to spend a week visiting with Mrs. Armstrongs sisters. Mrs. Victor Milnes, 807 Bennett street, and Mrs. Charles C. Hensel of Trail. Mrs. Arm strong's husband is a naval re cruiting officer at Phoenix. Honored in City Mrs. Ruby E. Rusque, Medford writer, who is spending two weeks in Port land as the guest of relatives, appeared on the Victory Center program today In a dramatic reading which she co-authored. The program was broadcast by Portland radio stations. Mrs. Rusque will do the same read ing over KGW on Thursday, time not given. Tha Medford writer was a guest at a poets' club evening last week and was asked to read some of her own poems. Is Commissioned Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Everett Gillespie that their son. Donald R. Gillespie, has been commissioned a cadet lieuten ant in the 32nd cadet regiment at the U. S. naval air station. Corpus Christ!, Texas. News of the commission was sent by young Gillespie's commanding oficer in a letter to the Gilles- pies. Young Gillespie, who at tended Medford high school and Oregon State college, left Med ford in March for the training station in Texas. The Gillespies reside at 1315 E. Main street. Fourteen Drunk Fourteen men were up in Medford police court this morning and yester day charged with being drunk on a public street. James Tuck er Reed, 44, Albert Ort, Herman Kraft, 56. and Thomas S. Corrl gan, 66, were all given five-day suspended sentences this morn ing on the drunkeness charge. Troy Garrison, 39, and George W. Loar, 54, were each fined $10, and Cecil Henyer, 45, for feited $10 bail. Jess Kenton, 49, and Frank Burton, 61, were each given five-day sentences. Yesterday Bert Chartmand for feited $10 bail on a charge of being drunk, Jule Anton Wat tenberg was sentenced to five davs in 1all and John Calhoun, Joseph E. Kirk and Thomas E. Thurs day and continuing throughout the day, units of the 91st Infan try Division at Camp White will stage a series of practice cross ings of Rogue river Just below Bybee bridge at the camp's swimming area. Crossings will be made by swimming or ferrying .with such equipment as the unit com manders may prescribe. Ropes will be strung across the stream for those who can t swim, and it was emphasized that every soldier in the division, not hos pitalized, would make the cross ing. Equipment to be ferried across will probably include a number of "peeps," which will be wrapped in canvas and 'floated" to the other bank. Ma jor Charles H. Gerhardt's head quarters announced. Music for the gala day was furnished by the Eve Prentice Accordion and Guitar bands, and the three Johnson boys sang trios. Talks were given by Grants Pass and Klamath Falls men. L. E. Hunt presided. Interest centered in the remi niscent visiting of former resi dents of the Sunflower state. BARRETTS HELD FOR $75 PER TON There was no change today in the cannery Bartlett price of $73 for No. 1 grade. Several deals have been closed at this sum. Some offers of $70 per ton were still being offered, with the growers holding for the higher price, it was reported. The Bartlett crop is estimated at approximately the same ton age as last year.
