Held For Sheriff Robert Earl Jones, 42, was picked up by local police yesterday and is being held for the sheriff of Hanford county, Calif., who has a warrant for Jones' arrest on charges of burglary. - Eagles Will Meet Crater Lake aerie, F.O.E. and auxiliary members will meet in the hall, 42 North Front street tomorrow night at 8 o'clock for initiation service, followed by entertain ment and a dance. Pictures Shown Lieutenant Colonel R.A. Eads, chemical of ficer of the 81st Infantry Divi sion, showed motion pictures at yesterday noon's Rotary club luncheon depicting all phases of chemical warfare, methods of employing such weapons and methods of defense against the various types. Need Bathing Trunks A call was issued from USO headquart ers today asking for donations of swimming trunks for the use of local service men. It was pointed out that many of the men are unable to enjoy swim' ming in the Rogue or local pools because bathing trunks are not part of a soldier's equipment and many are unable to provide their own. The trunks may be turned into USO headquarters, Main and Bartlett streets. Back Injured John Curley of 839 East Main street, an em ploye of Medford corporation. was taken to the Community hospital this morning for treat ment for a back injury he suf fered in a fall while at work. Narr Enlistments Edward C. Evanson, John H. Grim and Oscar J. Miller, all of Medford. were enlisted in the navy at Portland recruiting headquart ers this week, it was stated in an Associated Press dispatch to day. Posts Bail Robert Baer, 18, posted $3 bail with city police yesterday after having been picked up on charge of break ing glass on a pavement. Baer is said to have thrown a bottle from a hotel window, disregard ing pedestrians below. To Conference Frank Hull, civilian defense coordinator, and Elmer Beagle, Ashland, area co ordinator, left this morning for Salem to attend a conference of coordinators of the state, called by Jerold Owen, state coordina tor, and Governor Sprague. The local men expect to return Fri day. PUC Hearing The Public Utilities commission will hold a public hearing in the Jackson county courthouse at 2 p. m., August 4 on the application of E. G. Hogue of Klamath Falls for a permit to authorize opera tions as a common carrier of passengers by motor vehicle, anywhere for hire within a radius of 100 road miles of Klamath Falls, according to an announcement from the Oregon PUC. Qualifies Ray E. Wright and Ernest E. Kofoed of the New York Life Insurance company, with headquarters In Medford, have both qualified for the $100,000 club, according to a letter from the Oregon branch office in Portland. Graduates Pvt. William H. Milhoan, son of L. H. Milhoan of Route 3, Medford, was gradu ated recently from the Chanute (Illinois) field school of the ar my air forces technical training command, according to a report from the field To Visit Garden Announce ment was made today that the garden of Mrs. O. V. Chesney, 748 West Fourth, will be open to members of the Medford Gar den club all day tomorrow. Mrs. Chesney states that while visitors may come at any time the garden is at its best in the morning. m w Returns Home Miss Chero kee Seiler has returned to hex home at 63 S North Central ave nue after a month's vacation spent in Vancouver, B. C, and in Eugene. In the latter city Miss Seiler visited Mrs. Graham Ross. Miss Seiler was a student the past winter at the Western Washington College of Educa tion at Bellingham, Wash. Former Resident Here James H. Linnell, former Medford re sident and now a chief commis sary steward in the U. S. navy, was in Medford yesterday for a brief visit with relatives. He was accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Ann Linnell and the two left this morning for Bremer ton, Wash. While here the Lin- nells were guests of Mr. and Mrs. K. F. Murray. Mrs. Mur ray, with her two small daught ers, accompanied the Llnnells north and will visit relatives in Packwood, Wash. Hoehne of Roseburg with E. F. Ferg and Lloyd Ferg of Medford left this morning for Four Mile lake for a few days of fishing. Mr. and Mrs. Hoehne are here from Rose burg to spend a two-weeks' va cation with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ferg and children. Accidents Reported Thos. Lee Hines of 818 Plum street and Benjamin F. Atkinson, 418 Benson, were drivers of cars in volved in a slight accident yes terday at South Lincoln and Tenth streets, according to re port on file. Cars driven by Mrs. Vernon Tatham, 504li Hamilton street,' and Ralph B. Wilson, 633 Pine street, were slightly damaged in an accident Monday on McAndrews road, according to a report filed yes terday. A third accident, a re port filed yesterday, told of slight damage to a car driven by Mrs. L. S. Stevenson when an unknown driver side-swiped Mrs. Stevenson s car as she drove away from a curb on West Sixth street Vbitor In Valley Mrs. George Morse of Sacramento, Calif., Is visiting friends and re latives in Medford and Ashland, at present being a house guest of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Carter of Ashland. Mrs. Morse's son is the well known Carlton E. Morse, author of the script for the radio serial, "One Man's Family." Monday Mrs. Morse was in Medford and while here visited the USO clubhouse.
