Jackson street is reported recovering from a serious illness with which she was stricken last week. Mrs. Sheffield Is at her home. Maka Corsages Members of the Eagles auxiliary arc asked to meet Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home of either Mrs. A. F. Flowers. 112 East 12th street, or Mrs. Eber T. Weed. 814 Palm street, to make defense corsages. Kills Cougar L. L. Lewis, government hunter, reported to day he had killed his second cougar in the last two weeks in the Star Gulch area. The ani mal, weighing about 150 pounds, was treed by Lewis' trained var mint dogs and shot by their owner. Hare Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Richard Payne and children re turned Sunday night from a week's vacation spent at Lake Tahkenitch on the coast. While there the Paynes were visited by Ward Beeney, former Med ford resident and employee of the First National bank here who is now in the U. S. naval forces. ... Community Fair The Roxy Ann 4-H community fair will be held at the Chase home on the Delta Waters road Saturday, August 8, instead of August 7 as previously announced. The community is invited to the cov ered dish supper next Friday night at the Roxy Ann Grange hall at 7 o'clock. Meeting Postponed The USO volunteers air raid precaution class, which was to have been held this evening at the senior high school, has been postponed because of a conflict with the Fischer lecture. The class, les son three, will be held Tuesday, August 4, at 7:30 o'clock at the senior high school. Instructors To Mt A meet ing of Red Cross first aid in structors is to be held In Ash land at 7:30 p. m. tomorrow eve ning according to an announce ment today from Medford Red Cross headquarters. All In structors are asked to attend and to meet at 7 o'clock at the Oakdale street entrance of the courthouse in order that cars making the trip may carry a capacity load. Takes Blk Trip Leland Al len Tinker returned to his home in Medford Saturday evening after a week's vacation at Cres cent City. Mr. Tinker went by bicycle and reports that he made the trip to the coast In eight hours. He used the bicycle in order to have a vacation with out using gas and tires, Mr. I Tinker states. Crescent City is 1 much changed from previous 1 years, due to the war, with al-1 most half the places of business 1 closed, he reports. Tinker is a barber at a local hotel. I i Driver Fined Andy C. Han-' son, 140S North Riverside ave nue, was fined $10 in city police court this morning on a charge of failure to give right-of-way. Hanson was involved in an ac cident yesterday afternoon at Sixth and Bartlett streets, driv er of the second car being John Myres Reade. Herbert Mires of Phoenix, passenger in the Reade car, was thrown out and a wheel of the car passed over one arm. Injuring him slightly. Joseph M. Kantor was fined ti in police court yesterday for fail- j ure to stop at a red traffic light. i Car Ditched A car driven by Dora June Rose was forced into the ditch on McAndrews road Monday afternoon by an uniden tified driver, according to a re port on file today. Only slight damage resulted. Three cars 1 were involved in an accident last ; Thursday near Gold Hill on the Pacific highway, according to a report filed yesterday. The re port states that Harry M. Mar tin, Grants Pass, doted at the wheel and left his proper lane, involving cars driven by Law rence A. Maxson of Grants Pass and J. C. Fordyce of Ashland in a double collision. He is to ap pear in Justice court tomorrow. Visitors In Valley Mrs. Dan Lambert and son. Bob and Bill, of Minot, N. D., are visiting Mrs. Lambert's mother and father. Mr. and Mrs. Ira C. Mrs. Pearl McCredie remained in the city for a week's additional buying. The two women attended a fash ion revue staged by models at the ice arena which was espe cially beautiful, Mrs. Steward reports. Navy Enlistments Three lo cal men have been enlisted in the U. S. navy at Portland recruiting headquarters the past three days, an Associated Press dispatch said today. They are Leland C. (Connie) Latham of 1 Loring court, employe of the Texaco company, who enlisted as a second class storekeeper: Clarence A. Kouts, employe of the California -Oregon Power company, enlisted as a chief carpenters' mate, road construc tion foreman, and Carl Shoe maker of 222 South Central avenue, enlisted as a carpenters' mate, third class rodman.
