Accepted Paul L. Corwin of 1112 East Main street has been accepted for the Civilian Pilot's Training course at Klamath Falls. After two months training there he will be transferred to a I glider school somewhere on the Pacific coast. Mrs. Corwin will remain in Medford. Residents Return Mrs. Glenn R. Hoist and son have returned to their home after a vacation at Concord, Vallejo and San Francisco, Cal. At Vallejo they visited Mr. and Mrs. Earl D. Hart, brother-in-law and sister of Mrs. Hoist. Mr. Hart Is a driller on Mare Island and both are former Medford residents. e To Face Charges Gale An drews, charged with reckless driving. Involving a head-on collision on the Pacific on the Pacific highway several weeks ago, and Clayton S. Roland, charged with auto theft and reckless driving, were returned from Coquille yesterday to an swer the charges, by the sher iff's office. They are scheduled to appear In Justice court today At Camp Roberts Private Charles Champlin, former mem 'ber of the Medford city police force, is now stationed at Camp Roberts. Calif., with Co. D, 84th Infantry Training Battalion, and is engaged in a 13-weeks basic training program, after which he hopes to specialize In sam particular army activity, accord ing to a press release from the camp. Private Champlin recent ly scored well in ritle fire to achieve his sharpshooters' bars, the release stated. Passes Test Private Aivln Gould of Medford, now st-ition-ed at Kelly Field, Texas after being graduated from the arma ment school at Lowry Field, Denver, Colo., wrote friends to day that he had passed his tests for entry Into the U. Accidents Reported Cars driven by Joseph Wilkenson 113 Vancouver street, and Clif ford Allen, 18 Myrtle street, were involved in an accident at the corner of Main and Gene s -treats Sunday, according to a report on file. Considerable da.nage resulted to both can. Donald Samain, deliveryman from Grants ass, was driver of a car which collided Saturday afternoon with the parked car of Mrs. Arthur Hill of 619 S. 'Riverside, Medford, damaging both cars considerably, accord ing to a filed report Cars driven by R. L. Traffic Violators Three men appeared in the local police court this morning charged with traffic violations. Raymond F. Cherry was fined $10 on a speeding charge, George Conner was fined $3 for parking in an alley and Walter Inch was fined $2.50 for double parking. Halboths Leave Dr. and Mrs. O. J. Halboth left Satur day night by car for Ft Douglas, near Salt Lake City, where Dr. Halboth was to report for duty in f U. S. irmy medical corps. Dr. Halboth came to Medford from Portland some three yea:s ago and both he and Mrs. Hal both were prominent in civic and social circles. In Australia According to a cablegram received here recent ly Royal Gleason, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gleason, Jackson ville. Star route, is now station ed in Australia with the signal division of the army air corps. Gleason was graduated In mid term 1942 from Medford high school and enlisted in the air corps February 7. His friends may obtain his address by con tacting his parents at the above address. Men In Court Two men were given Jail sentences, two forfeit ed bail and one paid a fine in Medford city police court this morning. Albert Judd, 61, was given a five-day Jail sentence on a drunkenness charge and Frank Burton, 60, was given a 10-day sentence on the same charge. Richard Wesley Cummlngs, 39. was fined $10 on a charge of being drunk. Robert Lanier, 22, also charged with being drunk, forfeited $10 by non-appearance and Ernest E. Smith, 45, forfeit ed the same bail on the same charge. Sgt James E. Adair was picked up and turned over to the local military police on a drunkenness charge. LONG MARCH FOR PRACTICE ALERT Th? 362nd combat team of the 91st Infantry Division at Camp White underwent a practice alert that lasted from 8 p. m. Satur day at 9:05 a. m. Sunday. The team composed of infan trymen and artillerymen, re ceived Its alert order at 8 p. m., and marched on foot for four hours and 55 minutes to take up its position in the camp area for the situation given. Commanded by Colonel Searcy, the combat team re mained on the problem through out the night, and was back at the post at 9:05 a. m. Sunday. The practice alert was held to check on the team's alert ness, and Major General Charles H. Gerhardt headquarter re ported it wa carried off suc cessfully. DUNSMUIR CRASH FATAL Dunsmulr, Calif., July 27 AP Edith Head. 22. of Cas tella, wa killed and R. Wolfe, 21. of Dunsmuir, wa injured when their automobile failed to make a turn and plunged over a railroad embankment near here last night. TUNA AT 1318 Astoria, Ore, July 27 JP Price of Albacore tuna appeared to be levelling off at $388 a ton today. U.R Hundreds of former artist of all types are studying and practicing here the latest means of making the enemy think we are where we aren't and that we aren't where we are. General MacArthur reported from the Philippines that the Japanese were wasting ton of ammunition on dummy installa tions, while real gun positions, carefully camouflaged, were left to blast away at the invaders. So rapid are advances In ca mouflage technique that it is impossible to keep a manual up to date, local officers ex plain. As a result the units here not only follow standard principles but experiment on new methods of fooling the axis. Chicken wire, fish net heavy wood mauls, and paint and spray outfits are the chief tools of camouflage units trained here. When the men are profi cient in their work they will be sent to infantry, artillery and other units to train more camou flage men and to supervise con cealment of Installations. Us Dummy Rock Two men who pioneered mod ern camouflage technique are stationed in this area. CoL John Ohmer Is with the Western De fense command in San Fran cisco, and Major William Mohr commands a newly activated at Ord. Visitors to Major Mohr's out. fit find literal proof of the adage, "You can't believe your eyes." Wearing "root" suits, the name given newly perfected sniper suits by the camouflage contin gent soldiers hide in what should be plain sight and then dare observers to find them. They Jump from behind dummy rocks and fool photographers as they have passing aviators with a dummy bomber. Pvt. Robert Steenberg, a for mer lithograph artist; Pvt. Stew art Sproul, former art director of Publix Theaters; and Pvt. William Tilton, former back ground artist at the Walt Disney studios, are among the men in the unit here. Tilton designed Casey Jones, Jr., the train, and the clowns in "Dumbo." Study Butterflies Many of the men formerly drew high salaries, but now they are devoting their energies to army work, much of it stren uous physical labor. Mauls are the chief tools of a camouflage outfit. They resemble huge cro quet mallets.
