Annual League Fiesta Wednesday Gala night of the entire sum mer will be Wednesday evening of this week when the Jackson county League of Women Voters stages its annual fiesta. To be given at the grounds of the Port er J. Neffs on Berkeley Way, the evening's entertainment will be gay and varied with booths and games presided over by the val ley's most charming young women. "Victory" is the theme of the fiesta this year and decorations will be in red, white and blue. Patriotic prizes will be given and it is expected that the uni forms of attending officers and men in service will lend a mili tary touch to the scene. Highlight of the entertain ment program will be a humor ous quiz program with a team of three women opposing a team of three men. Mrs. Lela Rogers, Mrs. Alex Sparrow aftd a third member to be announced later will match wits with H. Fluhrer, Justin Smith and Ar thur Perry. Jack Matlack is to be master of ceremonies for this event and questions are to hive a local angle. A large variety of games have been arranged, there will be community singing and several prizes, including a quantity of defense stamps, will be given away. Beverages will be dis pensed by authentic appearing bartenders with their hair part ed in the center and costumed girls will have trays of cigarettes and candles. Mrs. Chauncey Brewer is gen eral chairman of the affair which is for league members and their friends. Local Couple Wed July 17 In Carson City . Miss Darlene Coggins, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cog gins of this city and Mike Pau lazzo, son of Mrs. Mary Paulazzo of Montague, Cal., were married July 17 in Carson City, Nev, The ceremony was read by the Rev. George Smart with Mrs, Ruth Kelley of Longview, Wash and Marian Harvey of Carson City, .as attendants. The bride wpre a rose mist dress with black accessories Following the ceremony they motored through the south and will make their home at 907 West 11th street, Medford. A shower honored Mrs. Pau lazzo at the residence of Mrs. George Handy, 610 Benson street, July 15. She received many gifts and later refresh ments were served. (Photo by Shangle). Jacalyn Thurman, Jack Langston Wedding Announced Miss Jacalyn Thurman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Thursman and Jack Langston, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Langs ton, all of this city, were mar ried in Reno, Nev., Monday afternoon, July 13. The cere mony was read by the Rev. Mr. Adams, pastor of the First Bap tist church at the Baptist par sonage. The bride chose a navy blue suit with a corsage and white accessories. The couple was attended by Mrs. Brewster Adams and her daughter, Bonney Jean Palctti. Both graduated from Medford high school and Mrs. Langston has been attending Texas Tech nological college at Lovett, Tex. Mr. Langston is a cadet in the U. S. army air corps at Santa Anna, Cal. Juvenile Club Holds Lawn Party Degree of Honor Juvenile club celebrated birthdays of two members at the lawn party held last Saturday afternoon at the home of their director, Mrs. Ida M. Wilson. Jimmy and Jean Peart, brother and sister, were honored with a birthday cake. their birthdays falling on the same date, Jul. 22. Margaret Bismark acted as Dresident and Shirley pankey received her second sergeant's senior stripe. Four visitors were present, Edward Cagle of 1 Pasco, Tex., Mary Fish, Mary Joan Kidwell and Mary Sands. Announcement was made that the club was purchasing $1 in defense stamps each month with Harriet Jones, treasurer, in charge. Former Southern Oregon Man Weds Word has been received here 0' the marriage of Miss Nella Paoletti to LeRoy Ayres. son of Mr. and Mrs. Ori Ayres of Cougar, Wash., former Ashland residents. The wedding was an eve.t if July 11 in Reno, Nev. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cass of this city. Following tl.j edding the bridal party motored to Susan ville, Cal., to visit Mr. and Mrs. Otis Ayres, uncle and Aunt of the bridegroom. They returned to Ttockton, where Mr. Cass and Mr. Ayres are stationed with the U. S. army air corps. Mr. Ayres is well-known in southern Oregon and the couple will make their home in Lodi. Cal. Return To Medford From California Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Allison of 717 West 14th street returned home this last week from week's vacation in Sacramento Cal. They were accompanied to Medford by their daughter. C. Latham of this city and Duane Fitzgerald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Fitzgerald of Coquille was read last Sunday at 1 p. m. at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Ger ald T. Latham, 819 Park street, brother and sister-in-law of the bride. The bride wore a powder blue silk crepe dress with navy blue accessories and corsage of gardenias and talisman rose buds. She was attended by her sister, Mrs. Eugene Peterson, with Fred Lewis of Salem act ing as best man. The ceremony was read by the Rev. R. W. Coleman, pastor of the First Christian church. A reception followed the wed ding with the bride first cutting the wedding cake. Mrs. Mark Taylor, sister of the bride, com pleted the cutting. Mrs. Con way Latham, sister-in-law of the bride, presided at the punch bowl. The rooms were decorated with large baskets of gladioli and bouquets of talisman rose buds. Following a two weeks' wed ding trip to Yellowstone Na tional park they will make their home in Grants Pass where Mr. Fitzgerald is employed. Sojourner Club Honors Members Leaving Medford One of the outstanding affairs of the year given by the Med ford Sojourner club was the afternoon meeting Thursday at the Girls' Community clubhouse at which time farewells were said to Mrs. O. J. Halboth and Mrs. Frank Heaton, club mem bers who are leaving Medford. Mrs. Halboth, first president of the club which was organ ized February of 1940, is leav ing soon with her husband for Salt Lake City. She was given a corsage and a gift by the club Mrs. Heaton, a newer member of the club, is moving soon to Portland, She also received a gift from the club members. The committee in charge of the decorations and refresh ments were Mrs. A. J. Loeffler, chairman, Mrs. Kenneth Wells and Mrs. Glen Swanson, Mrs. Anton Lausman and Mrs. Irving Housechild. Tentative plans were made for a picnic to be given August IS at Jackson Hot Springs by club members for thir husbands. Prospective members present were Mrs. Warren Doyle of Ash land; Mrs. Wade Harmon and Mrs. V. C. Warren of Jackson ville, Fla. Guests were Mrs. Miles Kelly, Miss Mollie McWil liams, Miss Dorothy McKean. Mrs. Marguerite Herbert and Mrs. Myrtle Smith. Bridge and sewing was en joyed with Mrs. R. R. Stroud Mrs. John McCabe, Miss Millie McWilliams and Mrs. Oscar Louderback winning prizes. Local Residents In Campus Play University of Oregon, Eugene. July 25 (Special) Miss Jean nette Field of Medford, cast in the University of Oregon sum mer school play, "Call It a Day'' as Ethel Francis, gave a good performance in the production last weekend. Robert Stedman, also of Medford, assisted Horace W. Robinson, assistant professor of drama at the university, In direction of the play. The play, staged in an unusual pent-house style, in the center of the Y.M.C.A. hut, was a dis tinct hit with summer school students and faculty. Miss Field Is the daughter of M. and Mrs. Harvey Field of this city. Mr. Stedman is former member of the Medford junior high school teaching staff. D. A. R. Chapter To Honor Regent Members of Crater Lake chapter of Daughters of Ameri can Revolution will honor the state regent, Mrs. William Hors fall of Marshfield with a lunch eon meeting Thursday at 1 p.m. at Hotel Holland Coffee shop. For her wedding outfit she chose a dress of soft hyacinth blue with a corsage of American beauty roses. Miss Marcene Mc Kee, niece of the bride, attended Miss Childers and Bob Gentry was best man. Irvln Dupray in the presence of relatives and friends of the couple. 4 State Garden Club' Board Members Meet Meeting In this city Tuesday nfternoon were members of the State Garden club executive board. At that time the group outlined the year's work for the state garden clubs. Officers ex pressed the desire that the clubs build morale of members, en courage victory gardens and participate in the war program by these methods. Attending the meeting were Mrs. E. D. Club MeetsWith Mrs. Gustafson Oak Grove Neighborhood club members were entertained recently ,at the home of Mrs. J. W. Gustafson on the Jackson ville highway. The affair hon ored Mrs. William B. Taylor of Longview, Wash., who Is a local visitor, and Mrs. Lewis Camp bell, who with her husband are visiting his parents in Perry dale from Pullman, Wash. Both were recently married and received gifts after which luncheon was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Charles Camp bell and Mrs. Gustafson. Mrs. Guy Allman, sister of Mrs. Gustafson and daughter Betty King were also guests at the Gustafson home. Mr. Taylor is stationed In Australia. Marita Furry Tells Betrothal To Local Man The betrothal of Miss Marita Furry of Phoenix to Bill Kyker of this city was announced Tues day evening at the home of the bride-elects parents, Mr, and Mrs. Robert Furry at Phoenix. The announcement was re vealed by clever place cards which marked the covers for the guests during the refresh ment hour. Later guests made an imaginary scrapbook of the bride-elect's future life. The wedding will be an eveat of Thursday evening, July 30. Attending were the Misses Mary Jean Barnes, Irene Med man, Vclla Gossett, Monica Wil cox. Margie Heckert. Colony Club Holds Party For Soldiers A successful bridge party, the first of its kind for soldiers of Camp White, was given at the Colony club, 8 Geneva street, Friday evening. Also attending were 13 attractive girls from Medford who were asked to meet the young men. Bridge and other games were played, the latter causing much amusement and laughter. A snack supper was served at 10 p. m. Chaperones for the evening were Mrs. A. S. V. Carpenter, Mrs. Lillian Salade, Mrs. Chandler Egan. A similar party has been planned by the Colony club for the fourth Friday of each month. ' Parents Announce Daughter's Marriage Mr. and Mrs. J. Brigman of Van Buren road. East Cleveland and Thomas James Fuson, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Fuson of this city. The ceremony was read June 13 at the Christ church in Cleveland by the Rev. Maxfield Dbwell. The bride, given In marriage by her godfather. Dr. E. A. Peterson, chose a full-skirted gown of French lace over white satin with fingertip veil. She carried a prayer book topped with white orchids from which cascaded satin ribbons tied with tiny white blossoms. Miss Helen Rae Brigman, sis ter nf the bride, was maid of honor. Another sister. Miss Mary Jo Brigman was junior brides maid and Miss Susanne Giesey was bridesmaid. They wore pas tel gowns of tulle and taffeta fashioned similarly to th bride's and carried cascade bou quets of talisman roses and lark spur. Best man was Dr. Edward C. Hill of Detroit and ushers were Edward Bauman and C. Peter Copgage. Mrs. Fuson attended Miami and Western Reserve universi ties. Mr. Fuson graduated from University of Oregon and is at tending the School of Medicine of Western Reserve university in Cleveland.
