RED GROSS ROLE TOLD BY GENERAL Gerhardt Speaker at Annual Meeting of Jackson Coun ty Chapter Nominations The vital part Red Croa playi in the U. S. armjr in peace and wartime was i tressed y ester day by Major General Charles H. Cerhardt, commander of the 91st division at Camp White, at the annual luncheon meeting of . Jackson county Red Cross chap ter at Mediord hotel. The speaker said that the Red Cross will give more assist ance in the struggle during this war than during World war I and he praised the organization for its tremendous help to the army in the Philippine struggle. Armr Women To Aid Major Gerhardt said the army women will cooperate with the local Red Cross chapter and asked that they be coordinated In the activities of the chapter to the limit of their capacity. The major general revealed that all the field officers of the 81st division went over the ob stacle course in the field yes terday, and he said he was sur prised and pleased how well they reacted to the problem. Also a guest speaker from Camp White was Colonel Charles Mutter, camp surgeon, who reviewed the background of Red Cross from its origin to the present time. He also dis cussed medical activities in the army. Major C. K. Warren, public relations officer from Camp White was also present. colonel Owen Meredith was un- able to be present due to press ing camp activities. Bullls Lauds Aides Seth Bullls, chairman of the Red Cross board presided dur ing the business session and praised the work of the officers during the past year. He in troduced committee heads and one-minute talks were given by chairmen of volunteer services committees, headed by Mrs. Harry Holmes. 1 Upon the recommendation of the nominating committee, head ed by the Rev. Herald G. Gard ner, a board of directors was nominated and from this group officers for the coming year will be elected. Elected to the board of direc tors were: Seth M. Bullls, Mrs. Alfred S.
