GranU Pan, July 21 (Spl.V A triangle (hooting In which Charley Franklin Young, 81, of ficers said, admitted shooting his wife and his brother sent the two victims to Josephine Gen eral hospital early Sunday mor ning and put Young in police custody. Severely wounded were Beat rice May Young, 44, and her brother-in-law, Levi Young, 41. District Attorney Orval J. Millard and State Police Ser geant Lyle Harrel questioned the husband and wife in an ef fort to determine what charges might be brought. The shooting took place at 4 o'clock Sunday morning at the Young residence four miles from Williams postofifce on Munger creek. Levi was wounded - in the wrist as he lay on a bed, and again through the pelvis as he fled from the man with the gun. Mrs. Young was wounded in the fleshy part of both hips, also as she fled. Charley's story, as recounted by Millard and Harrell, was that he had been working at Castle- rock, Wash., for several months, where his stepson Richard was also employed. He returned to Grants Pass Saturday night and went to his home where he wat ched and waited for some hours. Then he slipped into the house, equipped with a . wrist flashlight to see. and fired four shots. Two of them struck his brother and one his wife. It was the first time he had seen his brother in many years, officers said he reported. In another bedroom was Mrs. Minta Schuler, whose husband was away working at the can tonment .while sleeping close by outside the house were her son John Schuler, IB; Levi's son Dick 14; Dale Rockwood, 7, grandson of Mrs. Young; and Mrs. Schul er's daughters Margaret, 16, and Dorothy, 14. Officers said they were told Mrs. Young is Charley's first wife. She is the mother of four children by a former marriage, they said. Levi has three chil dren, they reported. (IP) Merrill Stubbs, chief of the automobile salvage section of the WPB conservation division, said today that in war time a Jalopy must either provide trans portation or be scrapped. He announced at the same time that the War Production board, in collaboration with other agencies concerned, had adopted a policy for requisition ing old cars which are making no contribution to the nation's transportation needs. In an address prepared for a convention of the American as sociation of Motor Vehicle Ad ministrators, Stubbs appealed to every owner of an automobile which is not providing transpor tation to lose no time in turning it into scrap reclamation chan nels. Moscow, Ida., July 21. (IP) Too much of the wrong kind of night life has resulted in the city of Lewiston being declared "out of bounds" for students at the naval training station at the University of Idaho. - -Chief Petty Officer M. Stan ton, public relations officer, re ported some of the trainees have gotten into trouble at Lewiston. Weather Balloon Causes Big Scare In Albany Sector Albany, Ore., July 21. (P) Apparently tome one saw a weather balloon fall to earth In farmlands between Al bany and Corvallis. Ha thought it was a para chutist. His story grew In re-telling. Some one telephoned the in terceptor command. Albany home guard and police reserves were called out. Bridges- and utilities were placed under guard. From Albany, Corvallis, Shed, Tangent and all the other small towns in the area, more than 300 rushed to the fields to search for the enemy. The excitement was terrific. The army investigated thor oughly and said, "nothing to the report." Italian Submarine Reported Missing Rome (From Italian Broad casts), July 21. (if) The high command reported an Italian submarine missing at sea today and said that in the battle of Egypt the British had attempted to "infiltrate into our lines." Annenberg imml grant, newsboy, circulation genius, millionaire publisher and, finally, a federal prisoner who won his parole only seven weeks ago died last night of pneumonia. He was 64. Publisher of the Philadelphia Inquirer and head of an exten sive financial empire based on racing publications, Annenberg had been a patient here since his release on parole June 3 from the federal penitentiary at Lewisburg, Pa.
