Cited to Court Waldon Frost Blddle, Jr.. of this city, was cited to appear in justice court today on a charge by state po lice of operating an automobile without a muffler. ' Navy Enlistments Enlisting fn - the U. S. naval reserve at Portland today, for regular ser vice, were Ralph C. Coggins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Cog- gins of Route 1, and Lewis C. Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Williams of 925 Reddy ave nue, according to an Associated Press dispatch. Lee Return South Dr. George Steven Johnson and Scott Hun singer of Los Angeles, who have been visiting Dr. Johnson's par ents, Dr. and Mrs. F. H. Johnson of 2322 East Main street for the .past 10 days, returned Tuesday to their homes. They planned to motor south via Mt. Lassen park and Lake Tahoe. They were ac compar. 1 1 by Dr. Johnson's mother, Mrs. Johnson who will return to Medford the first of August with her son-in-law and daughter. Rev. and Mrs. Leon ard Brown . and family. In Jail Jeanne Stow of Santa Ana, Cal., is being held in the city jail on a charge of grand theft with bail set at $5,000 on the request of Sheriff Jesse L. Elliott, of Santa Ana, Cal., according to a report from the city police office. Open House Baldwin Piano shop is holding an evening of music tonight at the shop on West Main street and all inter ested are invited. Accordion, piano, solovox and organ selec tions will be included in the open house prpgram. Military men are especially Invited. Promoted Alvin L. Tilton of Medford has been promoted to sergeant in the U. S. army med ical corps according to a letter received by his mother. Ethyl A. Tilton, 225 Talent court. Ser geant Tilton is in charge of the hospital laboratory at Fort Smith, northwest territory, Do minion of Canada. . , e Stationed Here Lieut. Col. C. S. Pettee, former regular ! army reserve corps instructor stationed in Eugene, headquar ters for the southern Oregon district, has been assigned to Camp White as executive officer of the 363rd infantry battalion of the 01st Infantry Division. Lieut. Col. Pettee has recently been stationed at Waukegan, 111. He has many friends here, hav ing instructed reserve corps members prior to the war. Dane Tonight A dance for students of the eighth through 11th grades of the public schools will be held tonight at Lincoln school gymnasium from 8 until 10:30 o'clock. The entertainment is under the sponsorship of the P.TA. for summer recreation of school children. Refreshments will be on sale it was stated to day. Students of the above men tioned grades are invited. Returns NorthMr. and Mrs. L. G. Harrison of Hotel Holland had as their visitor last week their son. Merle E. Harrison of Portland. Harrison, a reserve in the medical corps of the U. S. army, was scheduled to leave for Fort Lewis, Wash., and from there to Fort Riley, Kas. He has been stationed at the old base hospital 46, near Portland. July 17 (P A United States bomber attack on Hankow, great Japanese inland base on the Yangtze river, yes terday scored "very satisfactory results," a communique from Lieut. Gen. Joseph W. Still well's headquarters announced today. Fighters escorted the bombers in the raid on Hankow and also in another on the Nanchang air drome on July 3, the communi que said. The fighter-escorted bomber attack on the Hankow water front was the fourth by the United States air force in China since it took over the work of the flying Tigers of the AVG.
