Cobb, Jr. Wedding Read Of interest to friends in south ern Oregon is the recent mar riage of Miss Juanita Mary Cow gill, daughter of Brigadier-General and Mrs. Ralph P. Cowgill and Lieutenant Eugene Cobb, Jr., son of Mrs. Eugene S. Cobb, all of Portland. The ceremony was an event of June 21 in the Trinity Episcopal church in Portland with the Rev. Lansing E. Kemp ton officiating. The . bride wore a classic gown of ivory satin with match ing veil of illusion with face veil both falling from a coronet of seed pearls. She was given in marriage by her father. Maid of honor was Miss Jo Ann Supple who wore a gown " if lavender chiffon with head dress of ivory roses and carried a nosegay of the same flowers. Miss Mary Nancy Brigham, Miss Joyce Grady and Miss Alice Johnson were bridesmaids. They all wore dresses of ice green chiffon and carried bou quets of rosebuds and wore headdresses of similar flowers. Miss Diane Emigh was Junior bridesmaid. Eugene Cecchlni was best man. Ushers were Bud Vanden eyende. Daniel Boone, Peter Lamb and Carl Little, Jr. A reception followed at the home of Mrs. George A. White at ClBckamas. Pouring and as sisting were Mrs. M. W. Jones, Mrs. W. G. Purdy, Mrs. T. G. Cowgill, of Albany; Mrs. Hubert Parsons, Mrs. E. F. Sloan and the Misses Shirley Chapler, Jane Gray, Beth Parks and Maxine Marsh. The couple are making their home at 4421 N. E. Broadway street, Portland, following a wedding trip to Victoria, B. C. Med ford Ladies Attend Tea For Newcomers A group of Medford residents attended an afternoon tea at the Lisle residence in Ashland when Mrs. Lisle and Mrs. Earl Leever entertained a group of friends, honoring Mrs. Charles Gerhardt, wife of Major-General Gerhardt, division commander at Camp White recently. Attanding from this city were Mrs. Owen R. Meredith, Mrs. Frank M. Mallory, Mrs. Helen Small, Mrs. Penny Fontaine, Mrs. Margaret Fabrlck, Miss Frances Howard and Mrs. Dolph Phipps. A patriotic motif decorated the tea table with a centerpiece of red, white and blue flowers. The same theme was carried out in the room decorations. Club Holds Costume Party Business and Professional Women's club members enjoyed a "crazy dress" party at the Girls' Community clubhouse Thursday evening with Helen Parrish and her committee in charge of arrangements. All attending dressed in amus ing fashion with first prize go ing to Mary Porter, who wore an old-fashioned pink evening gown, black lace stockings and black befeathered hat and wrap. Games and singing were fol lowed by a truth and conse quence radio program and later a luncheon was served. Sixteen members and guests were in at tendance. Venita Gardner Observes Birthday Venita Gardner celebrated her ninth birthday Friday. June 26 when a group of friends called at 323 South Peach street Games were enjoyed and Venita received many gifts. Later re freshments were served. Attending were Sallie Edge. Miss Charlotte, left Saturday for Estes Park, Colo., where they plan to spend part of the summer months vaca tioning. Weekend At Lake O' Woods Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Vilas and three children are spending the holiday weekend at Lake O Woods where they met the Ed ward Geary's of Klamath Falli. Zielaskowski of St. Helens and Albert Henry Bliton of Medford, son of Mrs. A. S. Bliton, also of this city. The ceremony was read Sunday, June 21 at the All Saints Episco pal church in Portland by the Rev. Mr. Keiter. The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a wedding gown of white satin, fashioned princess style with a fingertip veil caught in place by a coronet of tulle and orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of all white flowers. Miss Margaret LeFebure was maid of honor. She wore blue net with a headdress of delphin ium and carried roses, carna tions and delphinium. . Miss Beverly Kloak of Seat tle, Wash., bridesmaid, wore pink net with a floral headdress of sweetpeas and carried a bou quet of roses, carnations and sweetpeas. Best man- was Orval Locate!!. A reception followed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orval Locatell after which Mr. and Mrs. Bliton left for Klamath Falls where they will make their home. Mrs. A. S. Bliton flew north by United Mainliner to attend the wedding. Gold HillGhl Weds Mr. Miller In Church Rites Gold Hill, July 4. (Special: Miss Jewell Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Cook of Gold Hill was united in marriage to Walter Miller, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Miller of Sams Valley, on June 26th. The cere mony was read by Elder Lester Petersen in the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints, Med ford. The bride was given away by her father, and was attended by her sister, Mrs. Ray Pedersen. Bridesmaids were Betty Rader Alice Lee Cook and Marlys Adams and flower girl was Alva jean Cook, sister of the bride. The young couple left imme diately after the wedding to visit friends in Portland, after which they will go to Seattle to make their home. The groom is engaged in construction work there. Dinner Honors Church Confirmands Meeting in the church parlors of the Zion English Lutheran church' a special dinner was given Wednesday evening honor ing a class of eight confirmands who last Sunday were received into the communicant member ship of the church. Parents of the young people were also hon ored at the banquet which was sponsored by the Women's Mis sionary society. Attending werr Mr. and Mrs. S. Steinbrecher and Norma Jean and Thomas; Mr. and Mrs. Phil Gcarhardt and son, Charles; Mr. and Mrs. H. Lagesen and son, Sidney; Mr. and Mrs. Arne Christensen and daughter Bar bara Ann; Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Sterton and son, Rodger; Mr. and Mrs. Obert Hanson and daughter, Dorothy, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Borg and son, Carl Jr. Table decorations were red and gold. Musical selections were played on the accordion and glockenspiel by the Misses Phoebe and Nancy Swem and a piano selection by Roger Hog strom. Miss Georgiana Thomp son presented a humorous read ing. Short addresses of welcome in to the church and Luther league were given by Arne Christen sen, representing the church council, and Nancy Swem, pres ident of the Intermediate Luther league. Responses on behalf of the class were given by Norma Steinbrecher and Roger Sterton. Members of the class were pre sented a group picture of the class taken last Sunday. Com munity singing and a word by the pastor, the Rev. Karl W Brockhaus, completed the pro gram. Leave For Trip To California Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Bray of 22 Portland avenue left yester day morning by motor for Los Angeles where they plan to visit Mrs. Bray's sisters. On the return trip they will spend a few days in San Francisco with her brother. They plan to be gone about 10 days or two weeks. They were accompanied by Mrs. Bray's sister. Wyse of Feather Falls, Cal., announce the marriage of their daughter, Maxine to Second Lieutenant Henry Ward Evans of the Lake Charles Army Flying school, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Evans of Chiloquin, Oregon. The ceremony was read Thurs day at 6 o'clock in the evening at the home of the bride's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. How ard Leveque, 132 Bellevue Lake Charles, La. The ceremony was read by the Rev. Dr. Stagg. of the First Baptist church. The bride was graduated from the University of Oregon in the class of 1942. Lieut. Evans, for mer resident of Talent, Oregon, received his wings and rank of second lieutenant at the army flying school graduation exer cises Friday of this week. Candlelight Rites Wed Delores Smets And Ancil Gunter A floral background formed the setting for the wedding of j Miss Delores Smets, daughter of j Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Smets of this city and Ancil Gunter, son of I Mr. and Mrs. Harley Gunter of Jacksonville. The ceremony was read Saturday evening, June 27, by candlelight with the Rev. E. N. Mallory officiating. Wedding music was played by Miss Juan ita Gunter, sister of the bride groom. The bride selected a blue silk dress suit with white and navy accessories and an orchid cor sage. She was attended by Ro berta Hamlin of Medford. Homer Smets, brother of the bride, flew from Bakersfield, Cal., where he is stationed with the medical division of the U. S. air corps, to this city to act as best man. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents for imme diate friends and relatives. Lions, Ladies Enjoy Gathering At Jacksonville Lions and their ladies met Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Grigsby at Jacksonville where elected officers for the coming year were inducted into office by the Lion district governor, Kirby Fortune. Heading the groups for the coming year are Frank Runtz of the men's group and Mrs. Claude Haggard, Lion's auxili ary. Following the installation ceremony a songfest was en joyed under the direction of P. W. McNab of Marshfield. Sup per was served at midnight. Surprise Party Honors Birthday Mrs. W. I. Childreth enter tained at the Childreth home on the Jacksonville highway Tues day evening with a surprise party honoring her husband, W I. Childreth. Following an eve ning of visiting and entertain ment buffet dinner was served, including a large birthday cake. The honored guest received many gifts. Jackson County Couple Weds In Caldwell, Idaho Of local Interest is announce ment of the marriage of Miss Ona Dee Hendrickson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dee Hendrick son of Stewart avenue and Jerome W. Fitzgerald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fitzgerald of Sams Valley. The ceremony was performed at Caldwell, Ida., lost Tuesday. Mrs. Fitzgerald is employed by local union No. 659, I.B.E.W., and Mr. Fitzgerald, enlisted with the Marine reserver, is in training at San Diego. Custard-Evanson Wedding Told By Bride's Parents Announcement is made of the marriage of Miss Doris Ruth Custard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Custard to Edward Christen Evanson, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Evanson. The ceremony was read Tues day evening, June 30, in the parsonage of the Methodist church in Ashland with the Rev. G. W. The couple are now making their he lie in this city. - -t Convention Reports Heard At Meeting Reports on the state Christian church convention held at Tur ner last week were heard Wed nesday when the Adult Mission ary Society of the First Chris tian church gathered In the re creational hall to begin the com ing year's work. Mrs. Ethel Latham and Mrs. Julia Gregory gave a brief review of the ses sion. Mrs. Latham presided during the business session and Mrs. Ethel Troxcll presented a glimpse of the year's program, "At Work Through the Years" and the afternoon subject "Why Missions". This subject was given In an interesting fashion and an invitation is extended to newcomers in the community to Join in the study. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Estella Hopkins and group. Day At Prospect A group of friends enjoyed last Sunday at the Ed Pease cabin at Prospect. Breakfast was served and later cards were played and an Informal dinner followed. Har old Shaw reading the cere mony. The bride, the former Phyllis Bcaulieu, Is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry S. Beaulicu of Brookings and the bridegroom is the son of Mrs. J. C. Haven of Bly. The bride wore a brown and white sheer afternoon dress with white and brown accessories and a corsage of gardenias. Mrs. Bcaulieu, mother of the bride, wore a light green ensemble with a corsage of gardenias and rosebuds. Attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Henry S. Beaulieu, Mrs. Doris M. Marcella Wise Weds Mr. Pelton At Christian Church Marcella Wise and Lester A. Pelton were married the after noon of June 21 in the First Christian church of this city with the Rev. R. W. Coleman reading the ceremony. The bride wore a navy blue print redingotc with white ac cessories and a corsage of rose buds and bouvardia. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kurtz. Mr. Pelton Is employed at Camp White and the couple are making their home at 905 South Central avenue. Navy Mothers Meet At Ashlartd Navy Mothers met Wedncs-! day with Carrie O'Hara at Ash land for a day of sewing. Eleven mothers were present for the luncheon at noon which was fol lowed hy a business meeting. The club announced Intention of providing a sewing kit at the USO center in this city for en listed men and also to provide cookies at the canteen for the week of July 5 to 11 Inclusive New members taken Into the club were Mrs. Susie Myers of Central Point and Mrs. Lucy Belle Whittinghlll of Ashland Guests were Mrs. Elna Cady and Ruth Dooms. Plans were made to meet once a month for the coming three months. 9 U lltff Ifftl I Reno Ceremony Weds Miss Gaines, Stephen Dutkiewicz The marriage of Miss Dorothy Gaines, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gaines of this city and Stephen Dutkiewicz was read last Sunday In Reno, Nev. For the ceremony the bride wore a white net street dress with white accessories and a corsage of red roses and carna lions. The couple was attended by Billie Gaines, Ernie Gaines and Gladys Newby, all of this city. They are residing at Hotel Grand In this city for a short time and will leave soon for New Jersey. Mr. Dutkiewicz is employed as an electrician at Camp White. A group of friends honored the bride with a wedding show er at the Gaines home Tuesday afternoon. Visiting was enjoyed and later refreshments served. The centerpiece was a miniature car decorated with tiny old shoea and "Just married" sign. Attending the affair were the Mesdames Gladys Pond, Ruth Warner, Elizabeth High, Mary White, Sally Cooper, Lillian Hutchison, Lynn Knudsen, Miss Gladys Newby, the hostess and honored guest. Ingle, the latter of Ashland entertained Wednesday with a 1:30 p. m. dessert bridge at the Ingle home honoring Mrs. Charles Gerhardt and her house guest, Mrs. W. Cotton. The tables were decorated with sweet peas and Hummel figures and seven tables of cards were at play. Prizes were awarded at bridge to Mrs. James Miller, Mrs. Glenn Fabrick, Jr., and Mrs. Wilbur of this city received the traveling prize. Mrs. Cotton scored high at gin rummy. Patriotic Theme For Shower Of Mrs. Governor Gold Hill, July 4 (Special Mrs. Lloyd Governor was hon ored at a shower on June 26th in W.R.C. hall. It was a no-hostess affair and the hall was patriotically decorated with red, white and blue crepe paper streamers. The unusual theme for shower decoration was used for the reason that Mr. Gover nor la stationed with the coast artillery at Camp Haan, Calif. Those who enjoyed the after noon occasion were Mesdames: Paul Holderness, Carl Routh, Hannah Routh, Lester Thomp son, Tom Robinson, Ed Shoe maker, James Boen, Orville Bailey, Dennis McGuire, James Clement, Lloyd Governor, Dale Clement and Miss Joan Mc Guire. 4- Carol Borge, Dick Lewis Wed In Yreka Miss Carol Borge, daughter of Mrs. Christine Borge ot 441 West Ninth street and Dick Lewis, son of Mr. and Mrs, Richard Lewis of St. Louis, Mo., were married Thursday evening, June 23 at the Episcopal parson age in Yreka, Cal. The ceremony was read by the Rev. C. Leitch. The bride wore powder blue suit with a corsage of white gardenias. She was attended by Mrs. Pearl Billhartz, who wore a beige suit with a corsage of pink rosebuds. The bridegroom was attended by Orville Bill hartz. No-Host Affair At Carpenter Home The A. S. V. Carpenter home, "Topsides" on the Old" Stage road was the scene ot a no-host July 4 celebration last evening when about 24 guests joined in an evening of cards, swimming and visiting. MODERN CLEANERS 211 WESTr.lAIN Church Wedding In Ashland Is Large Affair Miss Marjorie Kathleen Me Nair, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Jamison McNair of Bev erly Hills, Cal., and Ashland and William Norman Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alden An derson of Portland were married Friday evening, June 26 at 8:30 o'clock in the First Presbyterian church at Ashland. The bridal party gathered be fore the altar decorated with greenery, candlelight and flow ers. Scores of tapers used on standards and grouped candle brums were placed about the church. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of rose point mouseline de soie over white satin with long sleeves and square neck line hand embroidered in seed pearls. A full skirt and full length train were complimented by a long Chantilly veil held in place with orange blossoms. She carried a white prayer book with an orchid. Matron of honor was Mrs. John Thomas Curry who wore pale coralline chiffon. Brides maids, Miss Jane Shean of Bev erly Hills, and Miss Jean Ander son of Portland, sister of the bridegroom wore pale pink: Miss Shirley Angle, cousin of the bride, porcelain blue; Miss Dor othy Gaddis. Medford, aqua chiffon. Al wore short tulle veils to match their- gowns and car ried formal bouquets of delphin ium and carnations. Leonard Seiler of Portland was best man and ushers were J. W. McCoy and A. Bert Free man. Mrs. J. W. McCoy presided at the console playing "Ave Maria" and Robert Dodge sang two selections accompanied by Mrs. Gordon Tripp. A reception followed at the E. D. Brigga residence with 200 guests attending. Mrs. McNair, mother of the bride, wore a point de vense and crepe rench grey gown with an orchid and Mrs. A. W. Anderson mother ot the bridegroom chose a delphin ium blue chiffon gown with an orchid. Assisting about the rooms were Mrs. -B. B. McNair and Mrs. Hal McNair. Mrs. Charlie Angle completed cutting of the wedding cake which was first cut by the bride; Mrs. F. G. Swedenberg presided at the cof fee service. The bride, a graduate of Uni versity ot Southern California and Southern Oregon College of Education taught last year at Grants Pass. She is member ot Delta Delta Delta sorority and prominent in musical and dram atic activities while in school. Mr. Anderson is a civil engineer, graduate of Oregon State col legs and now employed with the army engineers in Portland, where they will make their home. ...
