Visits Sister Mrs. A. Conro Flero, manager of the canteen at the airport, visited in Ash land recently with her sister, Mrs. James Stevens, former Med- ford resident. Return From Trip Keith and Lloyd Ehrk returned Tuesday to Medford after a four weeks' trip to Huron, S. 13., and Somerset, Wis., where they visited rela tives and friends. From Vallejo Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Scripter of Vallejo, Cal., are visiting with Mr. Scripter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Scripter of 60 Rose avenue and Mrs. Scnpters parents. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Davis, S30 Bessie street. Return to Medford Mr. and Mrs. Earl Coss, 821 North Cen tral .and Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Wakefield, 18 Almond street, returned home last Friday from a month's motor trip to Willmar and Worthington, Minnesota, where they visited relatives and friends. They came through Yellowstone Park on the return trip. Trial Resumed The trial In justice court of William Alexan der, cantonment worker charged with drunken driving on the treets of this city, will be re lumed late this afternoon, to permit another cantonment worker to testify, when off duty. Testimony was heard most of yesterday afternoon in the case. e e e Returns Here Mrs. C. T. Steward has returned to her home. 1 Eastwood drive after a month's vacation in the Pacific northwest. Mrs. Steward visited in Vancouver, B. C, Seattle, Portland, Eugene and other points of Interest. She combined her pleasure trip with fall buy ing for Adrienne's Dress shop, ' of which she is -owner.. Kids Plan Circus A neigh oorhood circus with the pro ceeds going to buy war savings stamps for the performers was the Invention of a group of chil dren on South Oakdale this week. The circus will be held Friday afternoon and evening at the Maurice Spatz home on South Oakdale and is open to the public, according to Tommy Spatz, "ring master". To Kelly Field Pvt. Alvin Gould of Medford, now station ed at Lowry field, Denver, Colo., where he recently graduated from the air force armament school, wrote friends here that he, along with some 400 other cadets, would be transferred to Kelly field, Texas this month to take physical examinations to qualify for flight training as pilots. Pvt. Gould spent a fur lough here recently. Lost Billfolds City police said today that a number of billfolds, lost by local residents, are available at the city police station upon identification. Many contain drivers licenses and other cards and may be had by calling at the station. Flue Fire The chemical wagon of the Medford fire de partment answered a call at the residence of Dr. R. C. Mulhol land, 105 Vancouver avenue at 11:50 a. m. today to extinguish flue fire. Little damaee was reported. They formerly operated Price's Con fectionery at the corner of fliam street and Central avenue. Visiting Here Mr. and Mr. Edward Schack and children. Edwin, Jr.. and Marv Lnn nl Beanie are visiting over the week-end at the home of Mrs. Schack's brother-in-law and sis- ter, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hub bard, 2451 Lyman avenue. The Schacks motored to Medford. Traffic Violations Mrs. Glen Fabrick paid a fine of $2.50 lp city police court yesterdav lor double parking. Louis T. Ras- ner forfeited 52.50 bail on the same charge. Minor Mishap Bruce McKay of 1025 Reddy avenue operating a passenger car collided with a vehicle belonging to the Capitol Lumber company of Sacramen to, Cal., at Ivy street near West Main street Tuesday at 11:30 p. m. according to a report filed. L. Kirillin of Camp White and Clyde McCrory of 307 Apple street drove cars involved in a minor accident on East Eighth street near Central avenue Wed nesday at 11:32 a. m. a report filed yesterday stated. HELP IS NEEDED George E. Harris, secretary of the local culinary workers union said today, "local restaurants are very short ol help, waitress es-cooks and dishwashers. Many women are replacing the men in the kitchens and we need many more women to replace the men who are leaving each week." Cline against the Pa cific Greyhound Stages for $30, 000, now in its fourth day in circuit court is expected to be concluded tomorrow. W. Edwin R. Dumo testi- tied this morning for the de fendants, and said Cline, follow ing an examination showed he naa made "a satisfactory recov ery, considering the extent of nls injuries." Medical testi mony will be introduced by both sioes. The suit is based on a crash a year ago between an auto driven by Cline and a Pacific Greyhound stage on the Pacific nignway near Beall Lane. Nine passengers on the stage were hurt. LIEUTENANT ELDEN Word has been received here that Lieutenant Ralph Waldo tiaen, 35, United States naval officer for more than 10 years has been reported missing fol lowing action in the perform ance of his duty. Lieut. Elden is the son of Mrs. Leila K. Elden. of Portland, former Central Point resident. Lieut. Elden received an ap pointment to the naval academy at Annapolis, through Senator Charles L. McNary in 1927, graduating with the class of 1931. His father, Ralph Waldo Elden died a number of years ago. Lieut. Eldens' wife and son reside in Chicaeo. 111., and his sister, Mrs. Henry Dickinson, lives in South Pasadena, Cal. 8490"lllSTS At the close of business yes terday afternoon, 8.940 motor ists had purchased their $5 fed eral use tax stamps at Medford postoffice, it was announced today by Postmaster Frank De Souza. The stamps are good for the 1942-43 fiscal year ending June 30, 1943, and must be on all vehicles in operation. The postmaster said many motorists had obtained their stamps prior1 to the deadline Wednesday, July 1 in order to avoid the last-minute rush. He added that some vehicle-owners were still buying their stamps today. Value of the stamps sold up to this morning was $44,500, De Souza stated. Um Mall Tribune want ads. The bonds, the postmaster siatea, ranged in size from $25 to $1,000, several of the latter denomination being sold. George Codding, chairman of the Jackson county Democratic Central committee, today an nounced the appointment of a seven-man executive committee. Members of the committee are Moore Hamilton, Fred Kelly, Vern Canon, L. P. Mathes, Ward Spatz, Joe Marshall and Vern Hastings. Secretary of the county committee is Dr. E. W. Barnum. Carpenter, chairman of the war transportation com mittee in Jackson county an nounced today the appointment oi Li. u. Mayfield, senior high school principal and Lloyd Rupp, head of the plasterers' union in this city, as members of his com mittee. Carpenter explained that duties of the committee includ ed saving of rubber, by reduc tion of speed, walking where possible and doubling-up on pas sengers in automobiles. He said that the campaign to this end was being organized immediate ly in the county. New members will be added to the committee as needed. 1,058 REGISTERED E A total of 1058 males were registered Tuesday in Jackson county in the latest United States registration of manpower according to the selective serv ice boards today. Of this num ber 570 were through board number one in Medford and the remaining 488 from board num ber 2, comprising districts out side Medford. The registration was for males between the ages of 18 and 20.
