Excellent cooperation li be ing given by Jackson county residents in the United Service Organization drive now under way according to C. E. "Pop" Gates, head of the county cam paign. He said that volunteer workers were noting generous support In this worthwhile na tional campaign to raise funds for support of recreational fac ilities for men in the armed forces. Through the capable organi zation of Mrs. O. M. Floyd, former lecturer for Pomona grange in Jackson county, the rural areas are being thoroughly , covered by the Granges. Vol unteer Women's Motor Corps, headed by Mrs. Jack Morrill, in their trim uniforms, have taken over solicitation of the west residential district south of Main street. The Sojourner club is handling the district north of Main street. Four teams of solicitors are active in the business district, with many large business estab lishments and the chain stores taking care of their own solici tation. The professional men are being contacted by one group of volunteer workers. I Despite the fine manner in which the drive is being con ducted Mr. Gates asked today for more solicitors to aid in the campaign. He said more volun teer workers would ease the task of those now serving and asked those Interested to tele phone or apply at the campaign headquarter! at the Chamber of Commerce. The Grange Lake Creek Grange Lake Creek Grange met In regular session June 12 with Worthy Master Myrtle Charley presiding. The 4-H meeting which waa to be held before Grange was cancelled. He also told that burning grass, etc., requires MINE EXPANSION AIM IN BUREAU SHAKEUP Washington, June 28 W) Reorganization of the bureau of mines was announced today by Interior Secretary Ickes, "to speed the expanded program of providing strategic and crit ical minerals for the nation's war needs." The reorganization calls for designation of three regional of fices, including Salt Lake City, Utah, for the western states. A letter from Eldred Char ley, who is stationed in Florida, was read by James Charley. Letters from the boys in service are greatly enjoyed by all. Members are reminded to bring their letters to each Grange ses sions. Master Myrtle Charley told of receiving a letter of thanks from Willard Walch for his birthday gift. H. E. Chairman Nora Brad shaw reminds members to bring their sales slips to Grange. Secretary Mabel Brown will prepare questions on the book let "Official Air Instructions" for next meeting. Each mem ber should thoroughly study the booklet and be prepared. At the next meeting each one is requested to come prepared with a hoe, rake, etc., to help clean the Grange yard. The next meeting is July 10. Roxy Ann Grange Roxy Ann Grange met In regular session Friday evening with Overseer L. T. Bish pre siding due to Master Roscoe Roberts attending the1 state grange convention. Mrs. Olive Floyd and Mrs. Louise Brockway explained the organization of the U. S. O. and the social benefits soldiers re ceive. Ethel Bish volunteered to be general chairman of our district. C. B. Cordy gave an Instruc tive talk on drying of fruits and vegetables and displaying a home made dryer which would dry a considerable amount of produce at one time. The fathers' were honored with a beautifully decorated Father's day cake and ice cream after which an hour of recre ation was enjoyed. HEC ladies had an all-day meeting Wednesday and waxed the kitchen linoleum and sewed on their first aid quilt.A cover ed dish dinner was enjoyed at noon. The class taking first aid under Dr. Jennings took final examination Tuesday. Monday evening, June 29 at 8 o'clock the men are requested to meet at the hall to clear away fire hazardous dead grass. Upper Rogue Grange . Upper Rogue Grange met Thursday evening, June 18, with Master Herb Carlton in the chair. A small attendance was noted. The "graces" put on a program during lecture hour with a cake walk and the Carl ton twins favored with a violin and accordian duet. A letter written by our lec turer, Mrs. Caroline Harding who is visiting in Napa and San Francisco was read by Secre tary Mrs. Ola Huston. Presbyterians Will Have Noted Speaker The Rev. Jamer Millar of Portland, western representa tive of the Presbyterian board of Christian education will speak at the Sunday morning service at the Presbyterian church. Rev. Millar will be rememb ered as an outstanding speaker, having addressed the Presby terian Men's St. Patrick's day dinner a year ago and also a Young People's rally.
