B. Murphy, vice president of the Pinnacle Packing company, has been named chairman of the Medford committee to speed car loadings and increase general efficiency in cooperation with railways working on the transportation problem during the war emerg ency. Baby Born Mr. and Mrs. Howard V. Oaugherty of San Francisco -are parents of a daughter, Vera Kathleen, born June IS. Former Medford resi dents, Mr. Daugherty is the son of Mrs. Vera Oaugherty of 704 North Central avenue and Mrs. Daugherty Is the sister of George I. Hall, also of this city. Visit Here Mr. and Mrs. Burga Mason and children, Clarissa and John of Klamath Falls and John Sinniger of Roseburg were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Sinniger of Central Point over the weekend. C. W. Sinniger and John Sinniger are brothers, the latter being the father of Mrs. Mason. Minor Accident Robert" C. Mueller of route 1, Medford, George L. Roylance of 611 West Second street and Russell Hull of 1113 South Oakdale avenue were drivers of automobiles in volved in a minor accident on the Midway road near the en trance to Camp White Monday at 6:30 p. m., according to a reDort on file. Damage was minor. Fined Levied Adrian L. Catham paid a $10 fine in city police court yesterday for viola tion of a basic rule. Maurice D. Williams was fined $5 for failure to stop at a stop light. Thomas J. Enright, charged with being drunk in a public nlace was fined $10 or five days in Jail and Arthur Clement Nolan received the same sen tence on a similar charge. C. Stephenson and Mulholland nmnl4 arrangements for sell ing a small tract of land at Edenbower and visited his wife, Mrs. Mulholland. Both are for mer Roseburg residents. Fn1l. In Arm, Donald R. Grlgsby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy J. Grlgsby of route 4, and Robert A. Kerr, son of Mr. arid Mrs. Anson B. Kerr of Ashland, were enlisted in tne army air corps in Portland, June 19, ac cording to Sergeant Joseph W. Cushman, local army recruiter. Grigsby graduated from Med ford high in 1941, and Kerr graduated from Ashland high in 1940. . Two Enlist Ernest M. Mad den, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest S. Madden of route 4, and Ger ald R. Bourn of 1128 West Main street, Medford, were enlisted in the army last week in Portland, according to Sergeant Joseph W. Cushman, local army recruiter. Both men were accepted for en listment in Medford and for warded to Portland for their final examination and oath of enlistment. Stanley Philips, exalted ruler of the local Elks lodge, announced to day that the regular lodge ses sion Thursday night would be tne last until after the summer vacation and urged all members to attend and hear reports on the convention held recently at Bend. Dorsey of 109 Vancouver avenue, now have two sons in the armed service, the second, Albert Dorsey, hav ing entered the army last week for duty in the engineer corps. He is to receive training in Louisiana. Another son, Den nis, left Medford with company A, 186th regiment when the company was called into federal service. Civilian Defense Activities Jackson County Council for Defense received a shipment of 12 U. S. army training gas masks today. They will be used m training of civilian defense workers. Here, "somewhere in Hawaii" under the ever-present peril of Japanese bombers, the staff of a USO Mobile Unit serves coffee to two service men in trop ical kit at an outpost far from the nearest USO clubhouse. These motorized units are serv ing soldiers, sailors and marines detached to duty in remote spots, especially those in coastal areas of the United States and Hawaii. And it's not only "coffee-and" that they bring. There are cigarettes, candy, books, 'maga zines, newspapers, writing mate rial. The Mobile Unit carries a movie machine to the service men in isolated posts. This is one of the services ex panding under the program of Wool For Civilians Within Reason Says Quartermaster Aide Washington, June 24 WV Enough wool is available to take care of the program laid down by army supply branches for wool products and provide a reasonable amount for civilian purposes.- This report was made by Maj. S. J. Kennedy of the of fice of the quartermaster gen eral during house appropriation subcommittee hearings on the military establishment appropri ation bill for 1943, introduced today in the house. At another point In the hear ings, Maj. Gen. E. B. Gregory, quartermaster general, when asked by Representative Star nes (D-La), about possible ne cessity for rationing civilian use of wool for clothing, replied: "I do not know whether it will come to a rationing stage or not It probably will come to a stage where the civilian population will have to accept substitutes, such as wool com bined with rayon, or wool com bined with cotton, or wool com bined with various grades of shoddy and roeworked wool. Mobile units serve those who cannot get to one of the 400-odd USO clubhouses near army and navy stations. Component agencies of USO are the Young Men's Christian Associations, tne National Cath olic Community Service, the Sal vation Army, the Young Women's Christian Associations, tne jewisn Welfare Board and the National Travelers Aid Association. Wherever the Army and Navy go with their numbers growinj toward the 4,000,000 mark USO goes, too. COAST GUERILLAS TO BECOME GUARD UNIT Ocean Lake, Ore., June 24. Morris, district inspector for the state forest service. Morris said the loss was not covered by in surance. Although cause of the blaze could not be definitely deter mined, Morris stated that It might have started In electric wiring. The mill, owned and operated by James vole, was electrically equipped.
