Harris of Portland arrived here where the former will be employed in the ticket office of the Southern Pacific company. Harris replaces Harold M. Fix who left last night ior Eugene. Visiting Parents Elmer Set tell is spending a 10-day fur lough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Settell of Ashland avenue. This is his first visit home in the past year. He is with the U. S. navy. Arrives Home Miss Alicia Ruhl, who has completed her third year at Bennington Col lege, Bennington, Vt., arrived in Medford last evening to spend the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ruhl, of Siskiyou Heights. Arrives Today Galla Rina, world-famed accordianist arriv ed today by motor from Port land where he held a concert last night. Durhig his stay in Medford he will be a guest at studio. He will xppear in concert tonight at the Southern Oregon College of Education, his ap pearance sponsored by the Med ford and Ashland posts of Vet erans of Foreign Wars. Her for Funeral Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Booth of Forsyth. Mont., and Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Bryant of Wenatchee, Wash., ar rived Saturday evening to at tend the funeral of Mrs. Harry Fredette, who died Saturday. Mrs. Booth and Mr. Bryant are sister and brother of Mrs. Fred ette. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Butts of Crockett, Cal., arriv ed this morning to attend the funeral. Instructors to Meet A meet ing of first aid instructors in Jackson county will be held at 7:30 d. m. at room 10 of senior high school Wednesday. At that time a round table ais cussion of first aid will be held and instructors will confer with Dr. C. I. Drummond, medical advisor for Red Cross, in stan dardizing first aid instruction Following the meeting entertain ment and a social hour have been planned. Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Main of Hollywood, Cal. Writes Article A humorous article appearing in the May issue of "Appleland News," pub lished in Yakima, Wash., was written by Gordon R. Green, local manager of the American Fruit Growers, Inc. The article, "How to Avoid Decay, Senile or Otherwise," deals with learning to play bridge. Eldridge Promoted Philip J. Eldridge, of 804 N. Riverside avenue, son of Mrs. Clara M. Eldridge, has been promoted from staff sergeant to technical sergeant, according to announ cement from Will Rogers Field, Okla., where he has been on duty as an assistant platoon commander at the army air force bombardment base. Chicken House Burns A chicken house and garade were burned yesterday about 4:10 p. m. at the home of C. W. Crank, 23 Portland avenue. The fire de partment answered the call with the pumper. The fire evidently was caused by two boys who were playing with matches, the fire department stated. Two automobiles In the garage were removed and not damaged. White, Modesto, Calif., first held by the Sheriff's office on suspicion of knowing some thing about the robbery of the Eagle Point postoffice early last Friday morning, were given sen tences yesterday in Justice court. The pair, reported as noticed driving around Eagle Point that night, in an auto be longing to another, were ab solved of all connection with the crime, as Deputy Sheriff Will iam Grenbemer, who Investigat ed strongly Intimated from the start. White, charged with vag rancy, was given a ten days sus pended county jail sentence, and Sanders was assessed $1.50 and costs, tor driving an auto with out an operator's license. For failure to stop at a stop sign, Jimmy w. Glen, Medford and Merle Metcalf, Shady Cove, were each fined $1.00 and costs and William D. Wilburn paid $1.50 and costs for having no operator s license.
