Information Wanted Anyone having Information concerning the whereabouts of Otto William Bahr, formerly of Prospect, is asked to notify the Red Cross office in the county courthouse. Ohe name was erroneously stat d yesterday as Baker. In Bend Jail State police reported today that Leonard Osborne, charged with passing fictitious checks in this city last week, was lodged in the city Jail at Bend. He was arrested yesterday evening, the report stated. Osborne resides at ?32 Broadway street, Bend. Cited To Court Ernie Walter Malone of the Jackson County Trailer camp was arrested by state police yesterday for failure to stop at a stop sign. He was cited to appear in Justice court Friday. Kenneth Harry Jones of 512 Pennsylvania avenue was to appear in Justice court today, charged with failure to obey traffic signs. Oe e e Days Announced The civil Ian defense first aid class which was organized at Jackson school last evening will meet Monday and Thursday from 7:30 until 9:30 p. m. it was announced today. There is room for more members, the Instructor Bill Caples reported, and those at tending Monday are requested to bring triangular bandages. Demonstrates M 1 s s Rose Block, representing the Kurlash Company, Inc., is In Medford until Saturday demonstrating new features of the Improved kurlash, kurlcne and twissors, manufactured by the company. She may be seen in the cos metics department of Mann's Department store. Of particular interest is a Kurlash kit. Miss Block plans to return to San Francisco at the end of the Oeek. Hew Hew Instructors Elev en persons completed the first aid instructors course which was conducted June 8 to June 13 by D. C. Westerhout, represent ative from the Pacific coast Red Cross headquarters in San Fran cisco. Those successfully finish ing the course were John L. Carlich, Ruby F. Carlich, David Benton Newman, Charles Ernst. Stanley Jones, Marion Borg, Mrs. Anne Carlcy, John Gribble, Mrs. John Gribble, Ruth Jewett and Mrs. Helen Pierce. Batumi North E. L. Scott, state treasurer, stopped in Medford briefly this morning en route to California on state business. a Visiting Friends Mrs. C. T. Steward of 1 Eastwood Drive is visiting at the home of Major and Mrs. Herman Meiring at Stellacoom, Wash. Former Med ford residents, Major Meiring is now located at McChord Field. Violators Michael Timothy Walsh, Donald L. Springer and Robert Lee McMullen paid fines of $10 each in the city police court today for being drunk on a public street. J. P. Murphey was sentenced to 10 days in the city jail on the same charge. Marcus Knute Nelson was fined $10 and given a five-day sus pended jail sentence on a simi lar charge. www Attending Conference Frank Rogers, acting city superintend ent, left Medford this morning by United Mainliner for Spo kane where he will attend a two - day Northwest Aviation Planning conference. He plans to return here Sunday. A simi lar conference was held In Med ford several years ago. Head quarters for the delegates will be the Davenport hotel. Navy Enlistments Enlisting in the navy at Portland recruit ing headquarters yesterday were Richard Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Smith of Route 4; Marion Grizzell, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Grizzell of 100S West Main street and Roland Lindsay of P. O. box 254, Ashland, ac cording to an Associated Press dispatch. The three were ac cepted through the local navy recruiting station in the federal building. Return Here Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Holmes and daughter, Mary, and Mrs. Holmes' mother, Mrs. Charles Strang returned last week from Reno, Nev., where they visited Mrs. Strang's son, Bob Strang, and family David Strang, son of Bob Strang, returned to Medford with the visitors to spend several months with relatives. Mr. Holmes is district freight and passenger agent for Southern Pacific with headquarters in this city. www Stanley Is Ensign Harry C. Stanley, son of Lieutenant and Mrs. H. A. Stanley of Medford, has been commissioned an en sign In the U. S. naval reserve after having completed his train ing course at University of Washington. After a short visit with his parents In San Fran Cisco, where Lieutenant Stanley is on active duty with the navy. Ensign Stanley will be assigned active sea duty. Another son of the Stanleys, Donald C. Stan ley, is a cadet in the naval air corps, undergoing training at the naval air station. Corpus Christl, Texas. Both boys were born In Medford and graduated from Medford high school. FORGER TO SERVE THREE-YEAR TERM L, J. Estes, charged with Issu ance of spurious checks here, was sentenced to serve not less than three years in state prison when he appeared before Or cult Judge Herbert K. Hanna this morning. He entered a plea of guilty. "I am guilty of the. charge, Estes said, "but I would like consideration as I am to be in ducted Into the army soon." "It would do no good to grant a suspended sentence to permit you to be drafted. The Califor nia authorities would be after you at once on charges down there," the court replied. Sen tence was then Imposed. Estes, according to the au thorities, is also wanted at Eugene, as well as In the south, and is suspected of stealing clothing belonging to fellow workers at the Camp White can tonment several weeks ago. T. n i Pr r A Saturday Drive To Bring O.ut All Small Bits Stock Pile Now 57,948 Pounds. Growing by leaps and bounds, Jackson county's stock pile of scrap rubber reached the 57,948-pounU mark this morn ing as plans were completed for an intensive house-to-house can vass by Boy Scouts Saturday for the purpose of collecting every bit of wornout rubber availahle. Yesterday's "take" by service stations throughout the county totaled 30,648 lbs., over 10 per cent more than the 27.300 lbs. collected Monday and Tuesday, first two days of the nation wide drive. The largest single collection came from the Crater Lake Motors, who donated 1,000 pounds, most of it old tires, and refused to accept the one-cent a nound the government, through the service stations, Is paying for the scrap rubber. Saturday, Boy Scouts of the county will make door-to-door calls and everybody is urgently requested to turn over to them all old rubber articles they no longer need, or any articles they feel they can do without. Chance For Colo The committee in charge of the county scrap rubber drive oointed out the ODportunity be ing offered young boys and girls in earning spending money by collecting old rubber and tak ing it to the service stations. One boy collected 395 pounds, sold it for S3 95 and now he has spending money and the govern ment has rubber to help win the war. A suggestion was made by the committee that organized boys clubs launch a drive af their own, collecting the scrap rub ber and using the proceeds In any way they see fit. such as giving it to the USO. Salvation Army. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts. Red Cross or any of the organi zations which could use It to benefit the community. IRRIGATION SITUATION NOW FAIR IN VALLEY The Irrigation situation In the Rogue River valley is fair, Ed N. Judd, manager of the Med ford irrigation district reports Some irrigation water is now being used. The rains of May and weather conditions the past three weeks have been beneficial to crops and have forestalled use of irri gation water for several weeks. OP) The house voted today to sus pend for the duration of the war annual assessment work require ments on unpatented mining claims, on property taken over by the government. It sent to the senate legisla tion (HR 6295) Introduced by Representative Scrugham (D- Nev) to make such suspension Mines affected, Scrugham's of fice said, would be on lands such as those acquired by the war department for bombing ranges, or other purposes. Two notes were left by the couple, who took up residence here three days ago with their two daughters, Elizabeth, 16, and Barbara, 13. Deputy County Coroner Harold Poole refused to divulge their contents. They were addressed to a Richmond. Calif., attorney whose name was also withheld. Sharp was a retired Union Oil company worker.
