PAGE FIVE Public Playground Open 3 Days Week Under Supervision The Jackson County Recrea tion committee and the Work Projects administration have ar ranged to have the municipal children'! playground at 800 East Main street open between the hours of 10 and S each Wednesday, Thursday and Sat urday for the rest of the sum mer. Two to four women and three Junior or senior high school girls assist each morning and afternoon period. A member of the WPA staff Is in charge of assigning equipment and assist ing in arranging each day's pro gram. Volunteer supervisors for last week were Mesdames Herold Gardner, Marie Gullett, T. E. May. A. R. Leavitt, George Lewis, Bertha Penwell, Georgia Rohrer, J. W. Graham, Elwood Hedberg, R. Gillespie, William Jones and Miss Meredith Shields, Georglanne Holloway, Audrey Jarmin, Carmen Wright and Norma Stearns. PLAN RECREATION MacArthur Named Outstanding Dad For Father' Day New York, June 17. (IP) General Douglas MacArthur was named by the National Father's day committee today as the "outstanding American father of 1942." The committee sent the fol lowing message to the chief of the united nations forces In the south Pacific: "You have ben selected the outstanding American father of 1942 as a tribute to your inspiring and heroic leadership In helping to make the world safe for democratic family life and human free dom." Father's day is next Sunday. The third recreation program for defense workers is being organized at the Shady Corner trailer camp on Midway road. The program will be for three nearby camps. MAGINOT LINE GUNS REVERSED BY NAZIS London, June 17. (Jf) The Free French Press service de clared today Germany is so "nervous over the possibility of an allied o'fensive in the west" that the guns of the Maginot line have been reversed and new fortifications are being built along the Rhine. The statement declared the Lewis Ulrich, manager of the United States Employment of fice, said today that positions were now open for sawmill laborers, fallen and buckers. choker setters, janitors, room clerks, blight cutters, hay hands, housekeepers, practical nurses and a male fountain and res taurant manager. Those wishing to apply for any of the above positions were asked to call at the employment office, 45 North Fir street, telephone 3343. Ulrich said that several local sawmills and timber operators might be forced to cease opera tions unless help can be obtain ed in the immediate future. il The recreation program fcr men in service at the municipal airport, under the supervision of the Work Projects Adminis tration, has been expanded to Include badminton, horshoes, and soft ball. Concerning the recreation program, Sargeant W. M. Daws says the boys at the airport expect to develop a Softball team to compete with all comers. The recreation center which includes the canteen has an enlarged magazine library, lawn tables and chairs, and an emer gency room with cots for weary flyers who need a few minutes relaxation before continuing flights. The .canteen personnel con tinues with Mrs. Grace Fierro in charge of recreation assisted by Miss Mary Margaret Mann and enthusiastic volunteer wom en, both junior and senior who serve as hostesses from 8 each morning until 10 at night.
