Leavitt, superintendent of Cnter Lake national park, outlined plan for park travel thU season at a meeting of the Medford Rotary club Tuesday noon at Hotel Medford. The importance of recreation as a morale builder wai stressed by Mr. Leavitt In calling attention to the present plan of keeping the park open and facilities available. The park will open within the next fevr days, Leavitt said, and hotel and dining room accom modations will be maintained, the park staff will be on the Job, and boats operating on the lake for the convenience of fish ermen. Forest protection will, of course, be emphasized In the park service plans for the sea son. While tourist travel to Crater Lake national park will be limited, due to tire and gasoline rationing, those who live in this area should enjoy the recrea tional facilities of this scenic attraction as a means of lessen ing the tension of war work, Leavitt suggested. Chief Electrician's Mate Jack Carpenter, local navy recruiting officer, outlined for the benefit of Rotarians and guests the qual ifications and opportunities of the U. S. navy. Blister Rust Fight Wilt Be Resumed by 0-C Administration The O. and C. administration is again conducting the blister rust control program in the vicinity of Soldier's camp, IS miles southwest of Calice. Fifty men will be employed for about three and one-half months. The work is conducted under direct supervision of Ross A. Young blond. The O. and C. administration is also planning a six-man re connaissance camp to examine additional pine timber areas to ascertain areas which will Jus tify blister rust control work. Land Bank Loans to Continue Available For Farm Financing Land Bank commissioner loans will continue to be avail able to farmers and ranchers of Jackson and Josephine counties under terms of legislation signed last week by President Roose velt, Warren Patterson, secre-tary-treasuriT of the Jackson and Josephine National Farm Loan associations, announced this week. Original authoriza tion for these loans expired June 1. Land Bank commissioner loans usually are written as sec ond mortgage loans in connec tion with Federal Land bank loans, thus permitting loans of as much as 75 per cent of the appraised agricultural value of farms. Under certain condl Hons, they may also be written as first mortgage loans. Interest rate on Land bank commissioner loans is five per cent, and usual term is 20 years, semi-annual payments on the principal retiring the loan by the end of its term. "Originally authorized In 1S33 as an emergency measure, Patterson said, "commissioner loans have filled a real need in farm financing." CROWDED FRONT SEAT BRINGS $2.50 FINE James C. Clark, a cantonment worker charged with driving an auto with more than three per sons In the front seat, entered a plea of guilty in Justice court yesterday, through his wife, and was fined $2.50 and costs. Zimmerman entered plea of guilty yesterday in circuit court to forging and passing of school district war rants and was scheduled to ap pear for sentence some time to day. Zimmerman, according to a signed statement made to the sheriff's office, cashed a half dozen spurious warrants in this county the past month. He also admitted doing the same in Lane county and in eastern Oregon. According to the sheriff's office Zimmerman is a stove re pairman who travels over the state doing work for school dis tricts. By a subterfuge he would obtain school warrants, fill them out for various amounts with the correct names of school district officials, and cash them. Forged warrants of the Ashland, Eagle Point, and Brownsboro districts were issued locally. It is estimated he thus obtained between $100 and $150, author ities said. The department of commerce reports that Now Zealand claims to havj the lowest infant mor tality rate in the world. Eag!e Point Firemen Construct New Hall Near 'Phone Office Eagle Point. June 10. (Spl.) A few of the "old faithfuls' met last Sunday at the site where the Eagle Point fire de partment is building a new fire hall adjoining the telephone office on the north, laid the form 24x30 feet and poured cement for the floor. The new hall will have a room for the fire truck and equipment, a meeting room and rest room. As the labor is donated and as everyone living here will re ceive the same benefits, the fire boys will greatly appreciate it if others will also cooperate by turning out and doing their bit in its erection. Mrs. Beatrice Galbreath bought the building being used by the department at present and all who are concerned are anxious to make the change at the earliest possible date, so come on Eagle Point, show the laddies w appreciate their efforts.
