of friendliness on the part of
citizens toward the boys In uni

he, "adopt soldiers in your home
so that they will enjoy Its pri
vileges let them in on various
entertainments."

Lieutenant Edwin Chapman
arrived yesterday to assist Ad
jutant and Mrs. Chas. Cox with
the local corps program. Lieu
tenant Chapman completed the
course of study In the Salvation
Army Training college, San
Francisco, and received hi of
ficer's commission last Monday
night. His welcome meeting
will be conducted by Adjutant
Cox next Sunday evening In
the local Army hall.
Ladies Home league of the
local Corps and Outpost group
from Central Point will hold
their annual picnic tomorrow.

Hammond by their presence.
Mr. Hammond was not only
born and raised in this com
munity, but has spent his entire
telephone career in Medford
After graduation from the Uni
versity of Oregon, where he
gained fame as a football player,
he started In the telephone busi
ness In Medford as a collector
in 1012. Since that time he has
played an active part In the de
velopment of the Medford ex
change from IS employes and
about 1,210 telephones to ap
proximately 100 employes and
4,400 telephones, including a
modern dial system,
Mr. Hammond has also been
active in civic affairs, serving j
as a city councilman, director 1
of the Chamber of Commerce, j
president of the Kiwanis club
and Rogue Valley Golf associa
tion director. He is also past
worshlpfull master of the Med
ford Masonic lodge. He has two
sons and one daughter, all who
are graduates of the University
of Oregon. Mrs. Hammond is
also an Oregon graduate. His
younRcr so, Bruce, Is now : a
lieutenant in the U. S. marines
on duty with the Pacific fleet.

FRANK TICHENOR DIES
Portland, June 4 (P) Frank
B. Tlchenor, 87, long identified
with Curry county political life,
died at the Veterans' hospital
here yesterday. He was Curry
representative In the state legls
lature prior to the first world
war and was deputy U. S. mar
shal here in the Wilson administration.
