Starts Vacation Johnny Gltzen, son of Dr. and Mrs. G. A. Gitzen of 129 North Grape street, ar rived in Medford last week-end to spend the summer vacation. He Is a student at the Univer- D-ity of Oregon. New Stamps Going on sale at the Medford postoffice today was a new three-cent stamp hon oring the 150th anniversary of Kentucky's admittance into the Union in 1792. On the stamp is a picture of early Kentucky trappers. New Stenographer Bertha E. Moen of Klamath Falls, a civil service appointee, joined the stenographic staff at Rogue Riv er National Forest headquarters here this week. She succeeds Isabel Evans, who about two months ago was transferred to the Guayule project at Salinas, California. Divine Here Dr. Sherman L Divine, former pastor of the .local Presbyterian church, is aking a brief visit in Medford en route to Klamath Falls, where he will supply the pulpit of the First Presbyterian church for the Sunday service. During his stay in Medford he is resid lng at Hotel Holland. ... Class Unfilled E. H. Hedrick, school superintendent, announc ed today there was still room for a few women in the aviation sheet metal class at the high school. Women between the ages of 18 and 33 are eligible, as are men from 17 to 50 years of age. Registration may be made at the city school superintend ent's office in the city hall. Visit! Parents Miss Jo Sa wicki of Denver, Colo., arrived this morning for a ten-days visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Sawicki, 305 South Oak- ale avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Nor ton Douthit returned to San Francisco the first of the week after spending. Memorial day week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Sawicki. Mrs. Douthit and Mrs. Sawicki are sisters. Pictured The last issue of 'Fore 'N Aft', a publication of the U. S. Maritime commission contains a hunting picture of George Fetterly, a shipwright, who formerly resided here, and is well known in the Griffin Creek district. He is now employ ed at Richmond, Calif. VALLEY PIONEER, TAKEN BY DEATH Rosetta Ulrich Kenney, 83. beloved resident of Medford and southern Oregon, where she has lived for over 80' years, passed away at the home of her daugh ter, Frances Kenney, 812 Ben nett street early Tuesday after three years illness. Mrs. Kenney was born at Bur lington, Iowa, January 9, 1859. She crossed the plains by ox- wagon with her parents, when she was six weeks of age, com ing directly to Jacksonville, Oregon, from Iowa, the trip tak ing many weeks. Her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Ulrich, were of the earliest pioneers in Jackson county. Her early life was spent in Jacksonville, and for the past 25 years she and Mr. Kenney had lived in Medford. Thomas J. Kenney was united in mar riage to Rosetta Ulrich in Jack sonville, Dec. 23, 1878. Seven children were born to this union, three of whom, with the hus band, survive. They are Miss Frances Kenney, of Medford, Mrs. Walter Tracey Kentner, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Chris tian Kenney of Jacksonville, Ore.; also five grandchildren, Mrs. J. S. Rood, Nome, Alaska; Donald Lyden Kenney, Prospect, Ore.; Herbert Thomas Kentner, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. George Garland Garrett, Santa Barbara Calif., and Mrs. A. C. Gillard, Alameda, Calif., and one great grandchild. Shirley Anne Gil lard, Alameda. Funeral services will be con ducted from Perl funeral home Thursday at 2 p. m., the Rev. Father Herald Gardner officiat ing. Interment will take place in Jacksonville cemetery.
