Jr. , , f Trxrs.-' l a U V1 Medford's movie houses will swing into line this week with the nation-wide campaign just inaugurated to sell war stamps and bonds through the theaters. The first film player to ap pear here in connection with the drive will be handsome curly-headed Johnny Sheffield, who, when he's not helping sell Owar bonds ad stamps for Uncle Sam, is playing the role of "Tar zan, Jr.'' as the son of "Tarzan" Johnny Weissmuller. He . will arrive next Saturday as head of the U. S Treasury's War Sav ings Staff's "Buy Tanks For Yanks" National Tour. Btinging Tank The young Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film player is now tour ing the country with a grim looking tnirteen ton army tank from which he is making sales THIS Johnny Has Got HIS Gun WHEN JOHNNY gets his gun, he puts the nation's needs first. His personal inter ests he parks for the duration. Standard has been imitating Johnny so whole-heartedly that the War Production Board now sponsors an identical policy for all U. S. business. We, too, have parked our peacetime interests. Our nation has been attacked, and this Company is for fighting back with everything we've got. Our aim now is to produce, produce, product full-throttle, and under our own man-power. For Uncle Sam needs all the man power there is. We're studying every Stand ard job. Will it help win the war? Does it link oil-field and battle-field? As our men leave war-essential jobs for the colors, we'll find replacements with in our own organization. Jobs not essential to the war will be left vacant for the duration. Job-priorities you may call it. Or you may think of every Standard employee enlisting as an industrial soldier. Essentially Standard is trying to solve its own man-power problem with out aggravating the nation's man-power problem. That's why Uncle Sam likes our plan. That's why WPB is borrowing it in tola to help all American in dustry get its gun Standard Oil Company of California r A , m y Ik ' I V:S "Tarian, Jr.," young Johnny Sheffield, of ' thj films, will visit Medford next Saturday with a 13-ton army tank on a tour ot the country in connection witn tne war bond and stamp drive, appeals in behalf of war bonds and stamps. It is expected that he will sell several millions be fore the tour is terminated. Johnny will give the high pitched Tarzan yell which mil lions of movie-goers have come to know through the Tarzan ser ies of movies, and deliver a talk on "Boy's Place In America." The colorful tour is being sponsored by the War Savings Staff of the U. S. Treasury in conjunction with M-G-M and the idea was created by toward Dietz, M-G-M vice-president in charge of advertising and pub licity. Supervising the itiner ary are W. R. Fergusion, M-G-M director of exploitation, and Carlton Duffus, chief, motion pictures and spepial events, U. S. Treasury. Schedule Later Johnny will make appear ances at public rallies in his Boy Scout uniform, address pa triotic mass meetings, auto graph purchases of large quan tities of stamps and also deliver addresses in behalf of stamp sales.
