Society and Clubs by Betty Shoemaker Mrs. Kurtz Return From Zonta Conclave Mrs. Effle Kurtz has returned to thU city after attending the Zonta diitrlct convention held In Olympia, Wain. Ninety-two were registered at the session which was Judged as one of the most auoceasful held by the dis trict. An agreement was reach ed by the delegates to have Ma dame Chiang Kai Shek repre sent the women of the world at the peace table at the close of the war. Marie Fitzgerald of Olympia was named district chairman with Helen Yockey of Salem, former Medford resident, as vice chairman. Plans were made to hold the next district convention at Corvallis in October. From Olympia Mrs. Kurtz continued to Seattle where she was a guest of Mrs. Harry Youne. former Medford rest dent. She also visited Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kurtz In Seattle, and took sDeclal voice Instruc tion from Prof. Charlea W. Lawrence at the University of Washlnston. While there she saw Neil Currv. and Irvin House, Med ford residents at Payne Field and also WUlard House at the Boeing plant at Seattle. At Port land she visited her brother, tv V. Herbert of The Dalles who la leaving soon with the U. S. ordnance department of . the army. Mrs. Kurtz returned here by United MBinllner and will give a full report of convention hap penings at a coming meeting of Zonta. 4 Local Resident To Attend Banquet Mrs. E. R. Gllstrap left today for Eugene where she will at tend the Matrix table banquet at the Osborne hotel. The invita tional banquet, which If spon sored annually by Theta Sigma Phi, women's national Journal Ism honorary. Is attended by women throughout the state and the University of Oregon cam pus. Guest speaker will be Miss Victoria Case, well-known Portland writer and sister of Robert Ormand Case, Oregon author of note. From Eugene Mrs. Gllstrap will continue to Portland and Seattle where she will visit her aorvln-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Wlllard Eberhart. She plans to be gone about two weeks. Visitors Return To Minneapolis Mrs. Robert Wayne Lowry and son Terry departed last eve ning by train for their home in Minneapolis, Minn., after visit ing several days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert B. Lowry, Bear Creek orchards. Robert Lowry is head of the production board of the Twin Cities Ord nance plant In Minneapolis. Mrs. Lowry is the daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lowry. Party Honor Mr a. Garrett At Aldrich Home Mrs. Orion Garrett was hon ored Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Clifford Aldrich. 704 Queen Ann avenue with a fare well party. The Garretti are leaving for Salem where they will make their home after re siding here for the past two years. Four tables of bridge were at play with Mrs. Garrett and Mrs. O. R. Fritz holding high scores and Mrs. Floyd Somen receiv ing the traveling prize. Lllac were used for decorations and Mrs. Garrett received farewell gifts. Present were the Mesdames Jack Creager, Frank Hussong. Ed Milne, Lyle Kinney, Rueben BJorkqulst, Glenn Harrison. Charles Bottjer, Charles Pritch ett, O. R. Fritz, Ted Horneoker Jack Davis, Reese Alexander Don Chambers, Floyd Somers, the honored guest and hostess, College Presents Last Of Series Of Music Concerts Ashland, (Special), April 30. The laat In the series of "Amer ican Unity Through Music" con certs will be given Sunday after noon, ushering In National Mu sic week. This concert will be devoted to ensemble -numbers. featuring the Ashland Hiuh School orchestra directed by uordon Tripp and the Ashland high brass quartet. Participating from the col lege will be the college orches tra directed by Lucie Landen. the college string auartet and a double trio of girls singing one of Lucie Landen's choral num bers. The community singing will be led by Henry Enders. These concerts have Droven popular, each Sunday finding a larger audience in attendance and it Is anticipated that this en semble concert opening Music week will play to a canarltv house. The concert bee inn promptly at 3 o'clock and will be held in the college auditor ium. C.H.S. Club Meets Tonight C.H.S. club members will meet tonight at 8 o'clock at the home of Emily Knips on the Oak Grove road. Pi Beta Phi Holds Founders' Day Banquet PI Beta Phi members In Med ford observed Founders' Day of the sorority Tuesday evening with a banquet at Kyle's at Cen tral Point. Dinner was served followed by an evening at the home of Mrs. I. E. Staples. Hand-made place cards in keep ing with the event marked the covers for the guests.
