the San Francisco baseball club,
who left last week to enlist for
the war, telegraphed Seals'
President Charles Graham today
he had passed physical examina
tions for the navy. White sent
the telegram from Wenatchee,

General Assistance Drops
Jackson county's public wel
fare costs Increased slightly In
February and March over the
corresponding periods In 1941,
it was revealed in statistical re
ports released by the Jackson
County Public Welfare commis
sion, which held its monthly
meeting April 23.
Total cost of general, old age
and blind assistance and aid to
dependent children was $27,-
449.78 for February and $28,
968.40 for March, as compared
to $26,716.68 for February .f
last year and $27,723.38 for
Marih of 1941, the reports
showed.
General assistance for Febru
ary decreased from $4,734.84 ik
1941 to $3,737.39, but old age
assistance Increased from $14,
376 to $16,863 and blind assist
ance increased from $263 to
$374. Aid to dependent Chi)
dren also showed a slight In
crease, from $2,566 to $2,698.
Cost of general assistance in
March showed a decline from
1941's $5,187.79 to $4,340.20, but
cost of old age assistance, with
an Increase from 741 to 824
cases, leaped from $14,496 last
year to $17,110. Increases were
also noted in aid to dependent
children, from $2,374 to $2,804,
and in blind assistance, from
$280 to $374.

An Interesting program of
magic, music and dancing was
given by Mr. and Mra. Elmer
Whipple, Saturday evening at
Roxy Ann Grange hall.
The hall waa again the acen
of activity Sunday when the
men put in a pipe line and In
stalled a hot water tank for city
water. The new benchea were
a1o varnished. Dinner was
served at noon and following
supper an evening of recrea
tion was enjoyed.
Home Economics club will be
enterUined at the home of Mrs.
Henry Hansen Wednesday after
noon. Mrs. Frank Hansen will
act as co-hostess.
Friday evening la regular
Grange night and the ladies are
looking forward to an evening
of ease aa tha men are In com
plete charge of refreshments,
with Clarence Tedrlck acting as
chairman.
This evening (Tuesday) the
men are requested to meet aa
early as possible at the hall to
cover the pipe tine before first
aid meeting takes up.

gressing nicely in the county
and anyone wishing to put out
poison in their district was
urged to contact Mr. Fowler or
C. H. Elmore.
Vella Hill, H E C. chairman,
reported on the club meeting
held April 22 at Sister Lydia
Johnstons, at which time blocks
were cut for the quilt to go in
the hope chest the women are
filling. The club meets next on
May 20. at the home of Sister
Nellie Best.
Wednesday. April 29, at 8
p.m. there will be a community
meeting at the hall when mo
tion pictures will be shown on
incendiary bombs and precau
tions on should take will be
