Suffers Burns Troy Elkln

near the stock yards, was re
leased from the Sacred Heart
hospital this morning. Police
took him to the hospital yester

are visiting Mr. Pruyn's brother.

Gun Dischargee James Win
niger, 1063 Court street, was
treated at the Sacred Heart hos
pital about 7:30 a. m. today for
wounds received when his .22
caliber rifle discharged as he
was removing it from under the
seat of his auto. The bullet
pierced his arm and went thru
the muscles under his arm. Win
niger, cantonment employe,
was sent to the hospital by city
police. He returned home later
this morning.

Applewhite of Ashland suffered
painful injuries when she slip
ped and fell to the pavement
near the Ashland postoffice
Monday. The fall broke her eye
glasses and a piece of glass cut
her eyebrow, necessitating five
stitches to close the wound.
Mrs. Applewhite is the wife of
Guy Applewhite, chairman of
the country's selective board

Civilian Defense
Activities
The schedule for public classes
to be given by Medford's civi
lian war council instructors, who
attended the recent civilian de
fense training school under the
direction of Prof. Paul R.
Washke, was announced today.
The classes will be held in
three locations, the Junior high
school, county courthouse audi
torium and Jackson school, and
will start at 7:30 each night.

hotel and courthouse) should at
tend the courthouse classes, and
voters in precincts 50, 51 and
52 (1708 West Main street, Jack
son school and Junior high)
should attend the Jackson school
classes.
Instructions will be given In
air raid precautions and fire con
trol, along with other phases of
civilian defense.

Dan A. West, director of the
OPA consumer division, urged
Oregon and Washington home
owners yesterday to change
from oil to coal or wood heat
this winter.
In a government bulletin
from Washington he said trans
portation difficulties made it
advisable to install grates In
furnaces wherever possible. Use
of fuel oil has been limited by
the war production board.
