PAGE FIVE Society and Clubs by Betty Shoemaker Society To Hear Music Program On Scandinavia Medford Musical society will hear a program of Scandinavian music Monday evening at the studio of Mrs. Effie Kurtz. 204 North Ivy street, at 8 o'clock. A talk on the "Music of Scandina via" will be given by Mrs. Frank Gray. A sextette composed of Mrs C. L. Larson, Mrs. H. S. Hin man, Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Huson, Mrs. Scott and Miss Mariam Burton, with Mrs. Eva Marsh as accompanist will sing three sel ections. They are: 'To Spring," by Grieg' "Dear Land of Home" by Sibi'.lus and "Vermeland' aranged by Kinsella. Mrs. Bolger will play two violin numbers"Romance" by Svendsen after which Miss Mary Ellen Loeffler will present two soprano solos, "Solvieg's Song" by Grieg and "Ich Liebe Dich" by Grieg. "Wedding Day At Poldhangen' by Grieg, a two piano number by Mrs Kurtz and Mrs. Webb will close the program. State Officer Inspects Lodge Mrs. Ethel Lindholm, of Port land, past state president of the Degree of Honor state organi zation, held inspection of the local lodge Tuesday evening. Initiation was held for three candidates. Guests for the eve ning were members of the Grants Pass lodge and their president, Mrs. Neva Shipley who was honored. At the close of the session the glee club pre sented several numbers and the drill team their floor work. During the social hour re freshments were served by Mrs Frank Wentzell and her com mittee. An Easter motif and spring flowers decorated the service table and hall. Eagles Auxiliary Plan Pinochle Party The last of a series of public card parties will be held Tues day at 8 p. m. at the Eagles hall, sponsored by the Eagles auxiliary. Nurses Plan Spring Dance District No. 4, Graduate Nurses made plans for the new nurses' registry and for the annual spring nurses dance when they met Thursday with the presi dent, Joan Stoehr at her home on Eastwood drive. Mrs. Lester Gilman will be in charge of the dance. The group was enter tained with a number of accor dion selections by the Roguettes, students of Sebastian Apollo. t Ashland Residents Celebrate Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Powell of Ashland celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary with an informal tea at their home last Sunday. Their four daughters, Mrs. Fred Krugeel of this city; Mrs. George Ma son of Ashland, Mrs. Kenneth Parks of Fairfield, Wash., and Mary Powell of Portland were hostesses. Sojourner Club Members Work On Civilian Defense Medford Sojourners continued their work for civilian defense at the Thursday meeting at the Girls Community clubhouse. The group wrapped bandages and made applicators for the casualty station at Griffin Creek, headed by Mrs. Bren Starcher. Tables were set with spring flowers and pouring during the tea hour were Mrs. Orion Gar rett and Mrs. C. A. Renkin. Hostesses were Mrs. Frank Hea- ton, chairman, Mrs. Jim How ard, Mrs. George Rudolph and Mrs. George Allman. Prizes were won during the afternoon by Mrs. Charles Har- kins, Mrs. Frank Humphrey, Mrs. Harold Merrill, Mrs. Rag nan Unden and Mrs. George Rudolph. Seven prospective members were introduced: Mrs. Lloyd Roberson of Roseburg; Mrs. Clayton Jacobsen and Mrs. An ton Lausmann of Portland; Mrs. William Baker and Mrs. Ben Dupuy of Los Angeles; Mrs. Bob Porter of Klamath Falls and Mrs. Claude Thorpe of Eugene. Masons Plan April Dance Masons and their friends will enjoy a dance at the Masonic hall Thursday at 9:30 p. m. Party Celebrates Fifth Birthday A birthday party on the lawn of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dougal Young celebrated the fifth birthday of Miss Marcia Young Friday afternoon. Games were played and later refresh ments were served. Miss Mar cia received many gifts. The tables were decorated with a patriotic theme and tiny American flags marked the cov ers for the guests. The birthday cake was lighted with five candles. During the afternoon colored motion pictures were taken of the children. Balloons and a grab bag also were en joyed. , Attending the party were Jimmy and Janet Perry, Carol Buonocore, Freddie Lennard. Dorothy and Jerry Giesel, Lin da Lou Lemery, Patricia Free burger, Jack Clare, Kathleen Guiley and the honored guest. Christiansen and Mrs. W. C. Wilkins. P.-T. A. Activities Lincoln New officers for Lincoln school P.-T.A. for the coming year were elected Friday after noon at the schoolhouse. They are: Mrs. W. R. Glass, president; Mrs. R. L. Bussey, vice president; Mrs. Lynne Knudson, secretary; Mrs. Nelson, treasurer, and Miss Ora Cox, historian. Mrs. Eleanor Hamilton pre sented the pupils of the five A class In two musical numbers and Mrs. Alice Webb, with sev eral members of the same class, took the group on a tour of the South American republics, point ing out spots of interest on a large map. Many interesting facts were told about the coun tries, the people, and industries. On behalf of Mrs. Charles Thatcher and the Lincoln School Girl Scout troop. Miss Cox pre sented a framed sampler to the association. Embroidered on the sampler Is the Girl Scout motto and pictures of the ten phases of Girl Scouting. A social hour followed the meeting with Mrs. Ethel Chas tain and her room mothers act ing as hostesses. The attendance prize was won by Mrs. Chastaln's room. Elk Creek Caroline Harding was elected president of Elk Creek P.-T.A. at a meeting held Friday after noon at the schoolhouse. Clara Ditsworth will serve as vice pres ident; Ruth Proctor as secretary and Arlie Ragsdale as treasurer. Mrs. Olga Brill presided dur ing the business session and a first aid demonstration was giv en by Mrs. Harold Reedy's class. A talk on "building a program of homes, school and commun ity" was presented by Mrs. Hel en Axtell. Jobs' Daughters Hold Initiation Daughters of Job initiated Miss Ruth Andrews into the bethel Wednesday evening at the Masonic temple. Plans also were discussed for purchase of a $50 war bond. Miss Joan Elliott, Miss Joan Humphrey and Miss Virginia Lovell were appointed a committee to plan a rummage sale for Saturday. Miss Beverly Brooks, Miss Natalie Parker and Miss Jeanne Smith are planning to leave April 22 for Portland where they will attend the state con vention. Delegates Leave For Convention A group of delegates from St. Mark's Episcopal church of Medford will leave today for Portland to attend the diocesan convention of the church to be held tonight and Monday. The group will number seven per sons. Representing the various or ganizations of the church will be Mrs. H. Gates, delegate from the Women's Auxiliary; Mrs. John Moffatt, Women's Service League; Mrs. Royal Bebb, Eve ning Guild; Miss Janet Mann. Junior Guild; Mrs. Herald Gard ner, Senior Guild. O. J. Wil kinson of 714 Park street, who has been spending Easter vaca tion at her parents' home, Is the house-guest this weekend at the home of Miss Dot Bogue at Corvallis. Both are students at Marylhurst college at Portland. Miss Bogue was a visitor at the Wilkinson home during the past week.
