Bound Overseas Word has come from San Francisco that a former Medford youth, William Lyman Jackson, first class phar macist's mate with the navy hos pital corp. is about to be trans ferred overseas, according to his aunt, Mrs. Lucy Lyman. 45 Rots court. Jackson has been In the navy seven years, the past year at the Sand Point naval air sta tion near Seattle. He was pre- viously stationed at Bremerton ' navy yard. Jackson was gradu ated from Medford high school in 1932 and from Southern Ore- eon College of Education in 1934 was active :n dramatics and glee club work at both schools. REV. SMITH RITES 2 PI THURSDAY Ashland, April 8 (Spl.) Fu neral services for the Rev. Wil liam Alexander Smith, 90, re tired Presbyterian minister at Ashland, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ashland with the Litwiller Funeral chapel in charge of arrangements. Rev. Smith died yesterday at his home on Bush street following a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Lula May Keyte Smith; two sons, Clyde E. and William K., of Oakland, Cal., two daughters, Mrs. A. L. King of Oakland and Mrs. Naomi Gunewald of Har rington, Wash., several grand children and other relatives. Rev. Smith was a Presbyter ian minister and pioneer mis sionary in the western half of the United States for 43 years. He was born January 30, 1332 near the village of Mountain Ontario, Canada, graduated from Wabash college and Lane Sem inary and served in Bainbridge, Ohio, the wilds of North Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and Colorado, coming to Oregon in 1907. At the age of 66 after serving in Turner, North Bend and Marshfield he was granted hon orable retirement with all min isterial privileges and in 1924 he ceased active service. Follow ing a trip to Europe, Egypt, Pal estine, Syria and Greece he wrote a book of travels, "From Occident to Orient." Leaves Medford Robert Kel ly left Sunday by motor for San Francisco, Cel., after spending the past month and a half in training as station attendant at the local office of the United Air Lines at the Medford municipal airport Transferred Isabella Evans of 330 North Holly street left this morning by motor for Sal inas, Cal., where she will be em ployed at the fortst service of fice of Guavule project. She has been clerk at the Rogue River National Forest office in the Medford Federal building since February, 1941. Plane Passengers Departing by United Mainliner for Portland this noon were R. Willett and J. Kelly. Arriving this morning were F. Green from Portland and T. Paul from Sea'.tle. R. Peterson departed for Sacramen to. Leaving early this morning for Portland were F. Mattoon and D. Phillips Arriving last midnight from Portland were P, Woods and R. Meyer. E. Devoe departed for Red Bluff, Cal Leaving last night on the north bound plane for Portland were G. Yale and J. Pelxotto. Arriv ing last night on the southbound plane from Portland were Mr. and Mrs. W. Morrison. J. Mit chell and J. Blaker. P. Ballen departed for San Francisco late last evening. Arriving yester day afternoon were R. Manning from Los Angeles, K. Thomas and E. Noffke from San Fran cisco. Leaving were A. E. Orr to Portland and E. Traggett K. Wotling and C. Martin to Salem. WILLIAM C. WHITE William C. White, a resident of Medford for the past 18 years, passed away -suddenly Monday morning just before he was to have gone to work at the Med ford corporation. His wife, Ada May White passed away in 1938. He was born in Garland, Penn., October 23, 1880. In the fall of 1924, with his family, he moved to Medford. In the spring he went to work for the Medford corporation and lad been steadily employed there since. He is survived by five sons and three daughters: William A. and Fred R. White, Lakevlcw; Howard K. and Vern E. White, both in service; Jack E. White, Medford; Mrs. Fay Sullivan, Eagle Point; Mrs. Verna Drake, Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs Jeanette Griffin, Medford. There is also one brother and two sisters liv ing in the east and 10 grand children. Services will be held in the Conger funeral parlors at 2:30 p. m. Thursday with the Rev. Tuesday after celebrating her 89th birth day Easter day, April 5. She was born at Stolberg. Germany, April S, 1853, the eld est daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Richter. Her early educa tion was attained in Stolberg and in 1868 she came with an uncle to America, locating at Burling ton, Iowa. In 1876 .he came with friends to Jacksonville where she has resided for the last 66 years and in the same family home for 62 years. On June 7, 1877 she was united in marriage to P. N. r'ick and to this union four children were born, Fred J. Fick of Med ford; Peter J. Fick and Ida Trainor of Jacksonvil'e, and Mathilda Fick now deceased. There are also five grand children, Lawrence and Dale Fick and Virginia Lemire. Also two children, Carl Larson and Thelma Larson whom she reared from early childhood. Also three great-grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Zel mar Loehming of Hanover, Ger many. A beloved mother, Mrs Fick was devoted to her home and family who will Indeed miss her always affectionate greeting and hosts of friends will be saddened by her passing. She has ben a member of the Lutheran church since early childhood. Funeral services will be held in the Conger chapel at 2 p. m. Friday with the Rev. Karl W. Brockhaus officiating. Interment will be in Jacksonville cemetery. 211 LOST WITH SHIP London, April 8. PRIVATE SERVICE Private service at the grave side was held this morning for Nancy Rosalee Michaels and her brother, Norman Ray, victims of the fire which destroyed the home of their parents near Cen tral Point, Tuesday afternoon. Interment was In the I.O.O.F. cemetery with Captain Chanes K. Cox of the Salvation army officiating. Arrangements were in care of the Conger funeral home. Kyle's Restaurant Open in Central Pt. Emil Mohr, man ager of Hotel Medford stated to day, by local residents who come in contact with travelers and re port that local hotels are filled to capacity every night. Due to this erroneous infor mation concerning local hotels travelers in many cases continue further north or south in search of sleeping quarters when they could be cared for in this city. Mohr said that from time to time his hotel has been full and presumed that other hotels are also. It was urged that local residents refrain from passing on erroneous information to out-of-town visitors, when as a rule they could secure sleeping quarters in the local hotels. Dm Mil!
