Butterfield will be held Sat urday at 11 a. m., at the Perl funeral home with Dr. Sherman L. Divine, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment services will be pri vate. Mr. Butterfield, a resident of Medford for 32 years, passed away at the family home, 1407 East Main street, early Wednes day morning from a heart at tack. Mr. Butterfield was born at Webberville, Mich., where he spent his early life, and attend ed school. He was united in marriage to Miss Camilla Taft at Plymouth, Mich., on June 24. 1902. They lived in California two years before coming to Medford. During his long resi dence in Medfordi he acquired many friends, who will miss him. Mr. Butterfield was In the banking business In Michigan for 11 years and in California for two years and during his residence in Medford, engaged in the real estate and insurance business. Mr. Butterfield was a mem ber of the Masonic lodge, and a life member of the Command- ery and the Eastern Star in Michigan. He was member of Hillah Temple of the Shrine in Ashland, Ore., a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, a fun auxiliary of the Shrine, a for mer member of the Elks and the Medford Kiwanls club. He is survived by his wife, of Medford; a nephew, David Wilcox, of Denver, Colo., who will be here for the services e sister of California, one brother in Washington and one brother in Michigan. EFFIE J RUES SATURDAY Church of Nazarene Exercises Sunday to Mark Resurrection Medford Church of the Nazar ene. Holly at First street, will commemorate Christ's resurrec tion with fitting exercises Sun day morning and night. At the 9:43 morning hour the Sunday school will present a program. The morning worship at 10:43 will feature special music with Mrs. Beatrice Yoak um, soloist, singing "Gethsemane and Calvary," by Morris. A mixed quartet will sing "All Hail to Christ," by Ackley. The quartet includes Mrs. Ethel Kornstad, Mrs. Joy Sorensen. Fred Hall and Ronald Langenese The choir will amplify the music of the hour. Rev. Fred M Weatherford, pastor, will speak on ' Life Now and the Future. The night's service, honorin Christ's triumphal day, will be gin at 7:30. Special music fo: the occasion includes two num bers by the choir, "Blessed Cal vary, by Hussey, and Lead Mi to Calvary," by Anson. Thi above quartet will sing, "No'. Here But Risen," by Hickman. A trio number Is also antici Dated. The pastor will speak from the topic, "Living Stones." The public is heartily and cor dially invited. VETS STATE AID SELLS PROPERTY The Carl Y. Tengwald agency announced today the sale of two properties for the World War Veterans' State aid commission. One, consisting of 110-acres adjoining the Jacksonville city limits, was sold to Mr. and Mrs. C. A. McCrabb, who came here recently from southern Califor nia. The property Includes a five-room dwelling, barn and other buildings. The new own ers plan to take immediate pos session. The other consisted of 22V4 acres just north of Central Point and was sold to William D. Haas and son, Kenneth of the Trail district. The land, on which there is a house and build ings, will be occupied by the younger Haas. Mrs. Effle L. Johnston pass ed away at her home in Santa Cruz, Cal., on March 29, at the age of 62. She had been failing in health for several years. She was born In Marshfield, Ore.. April 8, 1879. In 1883, with her parents, she moved to Central Point. In 1894 she was united In marriage to Forest R. Moore. She left the valley in 1905, moving to eastern Ore gon. In 1908 she was united in marriage to Clark W. Johnston and for the past two years had made her home In Santa Cruz. She is survived by her hus- bnd, Clark W. Johnston, one son. Earl Moore, Gold Hill, a brother, J. N. Cornutt, Central Point, and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah E. Wilson, Grants Pass, and Mrs. Lena Reynolds, Cave Junction. There are also five grandchildren, June Maple, Yvone and Nadra Moore of Gold Hill; Mrs. Mildred Bisher and Elmer Butts of Sacramento, Cal. Services will be held in the Conger funeral parlors Satur day at 3 p. m Rev. D. E. Mil lard officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in Central Point cemetery. Larry Manuel, former Grants Pass resident, who has been serving with the medical depart ment of the U. S. marines in Iceland, arrived by United Main liner this morning for a visit at the home of his brother-in-law and sister. Dr. and Mrs. F. J. Moffatt on the Old Stage road. On leave for a short time Manuel reported that enroute from Iceland passengers on the ship on which he arrived in the United States sighted submar ines 30 times. Depth charges were dropped and it is believed that four submarines were de stroyed. Before returning to duty Manuel plans to visit friends in Grants Pass, where he was former secretary for the chamber of commerce. DEFENSE PRODUCTION Toledo, Ore., April 3 VP) The production for defense pro gram at .the Floyd Gregory farm near here is at least 101 percent, Gregory figures. Yesterday's yield: 12 pigs born to the farm sow, 10 ducks hatched by a hen. an uncounted litter of pups still under the front porch. CATTLE BUYER MISSING Halsey, Ore., April 3 VP) Members of the Alpheus Porter family of Brownsville disclosed today he had not been heard from since he left home Feb. 26 on a cattle buying trip into cen tral and eastern Oregon. They appealed to state , olice for help. OF NYSSA, DIES Nelson Wilder, 64, a resident of Nyssa, Ore., passed away sud denly Wednesday evening at 1131 South Riverside. He was born in Harlan coun ty, Kentucky, Aug. 14, 1877. and for the past 10 years had lived around Nyssa. He is sur vived by his wife, Ellen Wilder, and three sons, R. E. Wilder Medford, D. Wilder, Malin, Ore., and George, Washington, D. C. There are also several brothers and sisters living in Virginia.
