March 27 fP) Acting with the approval of a CIO union, a special invi-stigaior of the war labor board recom mended today that four CIO stewards employed at the Cleve land plant of the Aluminum Company of American be dis charged for instigating a slow down in the plant. Chairman Wililam A. Davis of the WLB said the recom mendation had been approved by officials of the CIO National Association of Die Casting Work ers and Local 55 of the union. George Peck likes to dance at 80, and dance he did at the old-time dance given in honor of his birthday by Upper Appiegate grange Saturday night. For some time Mr. Peck has vowed he would quit dancing when he reached 80. "But will I?" he asks, now that the time has arrived, and consid ering that he hadn't danced for 50 years prior to the beginning of grange dances here five years ago. Mr. Peck, always too much on the go, he says, to get mar ried, maintains a pleasant home and a garden spot in the Beaver creek district, and does some mining. Frank Bowman resides wtih him. Mr. Peck, a carpenter by trade, has resided here contin uously for 15 years. He was born in Ironton county, Mis souri, March 17, 1862, and his first job was working in a truck garden for 50 cents a day when he was 12. Mr. Peck also worked at iron molding for seven years during his younger .days. He holds the offtce of steward in the Upper Applegate grange. About 75 neighbors and friends attended the dance, where all ages from 8 to 80 gave their interpretation of polkas, square dances, schotishes, and others. Something of the old western hospitality cropped up when a red-shirted cowboy from Steam boat dropped in unexpectedly, and an old-timer loaned him his Sunday shoes in place of hob nailed work shoes so that he could dance. The publication asserted that in any further extension of Pa: cific operations Japan would face a shipping problem and "must exercise caution, for about 130,000 tons of shipping are needed to transport mod ern division with equipment." It added, however, that the United Nations also have a ship ping problem and said there ap parently are not sufficient Unit ed States troops in Australia at present to start an immediate counter-offensive.
