At Hospital Mrs. Walter Young of Eagie Point is receiv ing medical treatment at Com munity hospital for a compound fracture ot the left leg which she suffered Saturday evening while ice skating. She Is able to see friends. To Meeting F. G. Whitney, assistant superintendent of the Rogue River national forest and Lee Port, ranger at Applegate, left today for .Yreka, Calif., where they were to confer with the Klamath national forest of fice on official matters. Class Full In accordance with orders from the United States employment service the sheet metal class, conducted at the high school, will receive no new applicants until further no tice, City School Superintendent E. H. Hedrick said today. Orders are to place stress upon electri cal welding for ship building. Opens Institute Rev. Earl F. Aiken of Salem, presiding min ister for the Free Methodist church for Salem and Rogue River district will open a four day Christian institute in the Free Meth-idist church, corner of Tenth and Ivy streets tonight at 7:45 o'clock. Topic of the institute will be 'The Price of Efficiency". During his stay in this city Rev. Aiken will be a guest at the home of Rev. R. H. Poet, 337 West Tenth street. Legion Meeting A meeting of the executive committee of the local American Legion post will be held at 6:30 at the Hotel Jackson this evening. Several important matters are scheduled for discussion and a 100 percent attendance is requested by Com mander Ray Wright. Final plans for the observance of the 23rd birthday of Medford Post No. 15, which will be held next Wed nesday, March 25. also will be completed during the evening's session. Mew Ranger Warren H. Bowles of Portland has arrived here to take up his duties as district ranger at Butte Balls. He was transferred from the Pacific northwest experiment station at Portland. Bowles re- ' places Waldo I. Pettersen who, with Mrs. Pettersen, is leaving within the next few days for Wenatchee, Wash., where he has been promoted to superintend ent of construction for the Wen atchee forest. Mr. Pettersen has been with the Rogue River Na tional forest for the past seven vears, having been stationed for the past three years at Butte Falls. Plane Passengers D. They made the trip north by train. During their stay in California Mr. Andrews was ill, but is re ported to be improved. Ups Membership Lee Gar lock, former local resident and well known Legionnaire, is again breaking state member ship records in the American Legion. According to wonl re ceived here by H. L. Bromley, district publicity chairman, Gar lock has increased the member ship of Columbia Power post by nearly 100 and has exceeded the quota by 214 per cent, which should make him strong con tender for state honors in 1842. Ski Accident Halbert S. Deuel, Jr., 1100 South Oakdale avenue, fell on Knob Hill in Cra ter Lake national park yester day and sprained his right knee and ankle, it was rpnrirtH tnHav by the forest service office in the Medford Federal building. Minor Accidents Three min or mishaps, two of them in Med ford, occurred In the county over the week-end, according to re port on file. Passenger cars of Dick Nyrop, route 1, and Dave Starling, Los Angeles, collided at the intersections of Oakdale ave nue, 11th and J streets yester day. Pick-ups driven by Grover Cleveland Peebler, Medford, and by an unidentified Monarch Seed and Feed driver were involved in a slight mishap on Main street near Riverside avenue. Collision of a passenger auto driven by Edith Van Hise, Central Point, and a truck operated by C B. Holliday, Route 1, Central Point, on the Pacific highway in Cen tral Point Saturday brought minor damage. Passenger ma chines of J. N. Spring, Trail, and Leland Kannenberg, Medford, collided near the Crater Lake checking station yesterday. Stations from San Luis Obispo south to San Diego and eastward to Boulder City, Nev., were or dered off the air at 5:35 a. m. (PWT) and permitted to return at 8:55. By the latter hour, fourth army headquarters here an nounced, "the object was no longer present but still was unidentified." There was no general alert. The Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway company said patronage had declined, and that the move would conserve fuel oil and make equipment available for other lines. Mrs. Cox, chorus Instructor in Grants Pass five years prior to her marriage, joined the staff at Rogue River today. Snyder expected to begin a career in some line of work other than teaching. First project for the music department under Mrs. Cox will be training of a junior chorus. advanced chorus, and an orches tra for participation in the an nual music festival at Southern Oregon College of Education April 24. W) A 14-ycar-old boy figured in the rescue here yesterday of Second-Lieut. Robert W. Neel. whose army pursuit plane was ' forced down in Puget sound 600 yards from shore. The boy. Max Whitcomb, Na- keta Beach, saw the plane crash and immediately sink. Rowing out ,to the scene of the wreck, young Whitcomb found Neel at tempting to swim ashore in heavy flying clothes and pulled him into the boat. Neel, of Kansas City, Is based at Paine field here. The CCC motor repair shop, which now employes 12 civilian mechanics, services government equipment of all kinds in this area.
