Society and Clubs by Betty Shoemaker Mariner's Class Members Sew For Hospital A group of women of the Mariner's class of the Flrat Christian ehuich met with bo les Wakefield Tuesday evening to lew on community project. Layettes for Community hospi tal were made. Another evening of sewing is planned to com plete the articles of clothing. Other worthy projects will be undertaken as the occasion arises. Later refreshments were served by Fredene Doty, Doro thy Doty and the hostess after which Eileene Ford was sur prised with a gift from the class. Attending were Mrs. R. W. Cole man, Mrs. Maxlne McQulgg. Mrs. Mabel Smith, Mrs. June Russell. Mrs. Mary Willberger, Mrs. Eileene Ford, Mrs. Ruth Kay, Mrs. Melba Prescott, Mrs. Virginia Cook and the hostess committee. Circle Meets At Kirby Home Twenty-eight ladles of the Fidelity circle of the First Methodist church met with Mrs. Louis Kirby at the parsonage Tuesdsy afternoon for a covered dish luncheon. Mrs. L. N. Young er led devotions taking as her topic, "The Ten Command merits." : Mrs. Minnie Heinle give a reading, "Where Are You Going So Fast?" after which plans were made for the Heirloom tea to be held at the church parlor Wednesday afternoon. A spring bazaar Is planned lor April. Later social hour was enjoyed. Calico Club Meeting Postponed ; An announcement was made today that the Calico club which was to have met today with Mrs. Bob Jasmann has been postponed until March 30 due to illness. I Masons Return From California Mrs. Susan D. Nason and daughter. Miss Margaret Nason of the Old Stage road returned here yesterday by motor after spending the past sis weeks at 29 Palms In southern California and at Palm Springs. They re port excellent weather and that .traffic is not as heavy now on the highways. Motorists are driving slower, Mrs. Nason said. The first of the week a family din ner was enjoyed at the Jessie Hodgins home In Ashland and other gatherings have followed. Attending the affairs are Mrs. Floyd Estenson. a daughter and family of Starles. North Dakota, and another son. Henry of Grand View, Ida., a daughter, Mrs. John Thiessen and family and Mrs. Balfour and family of this city. P.-T. A. Activities Central Point Featured at the recent Central Point P.-T. A. meeting at the schoolhouse was a model air plane review by students of the seventh grade. The boys are keenly Interested in their proj ect and brief descriptions of their models proved educational The girls chorus from the sev enth grade sang three selections. Mary Jane Mathews played a piano solo, Leo Troutman an accordion solo and June Cole man a violin number. Helen Bloomensteln appeared In an acrobatic number. A short talk on "Home Light ing" was given by a representa tive from the California Oregon Power company. During the business meeting parents and teachers discussed methods of raising funds for band uniforms. Plans were made to hold a bundle sale" the night of the grade school operetta. Mrs. Kenneth Hulbert was elected chairman of the nomi nating committee assisted by Miss Mabel Dodson and Mrs O. T. Wilson. The room prize was won by the second grade and refreshments were served by mothers of second grade students. Turkey Dinner To Be Sunday A St. Patrick s turkey dinner will be held at the Sacred Heart parish hall on South Oakdale avenue Sunday from 12 until 8 p. m. The public is Invited. Miss Walters, daugh ter of Andrew Walters, former ly of this city is a graduate of Medford senior high school and moved to Richmond last spring to make her home where she is now employed. Local Couple Wed In Tacoma A marriage license application was filed in Tacoma, Wash., yes terday by Ruben Ray Strong and Ruth Elizabeth Walden, both of this city. Nile Daughters Meet In Ashland Daughters of Nile of Zulelma temple will meet tomorrow at 2 p. m at the Ashland Masonic temple. Election of officers is scheduled, followed by a me morial hour. Society Plans Interesting Party A musical headdress party and social evening is planned by members of the Medford Musi cal society at the nome of Mrs M. Blakeslee (AP Feature Writer) Dallas, Tex. Maybe your favorite tree needs a shot in one of its limbs. A little yeast or some ground up plant tissues make a good hypodermic for this purpose. J. P. Bennett, University of Cali fornia, told the American As sociation for the Advancement of Science here that these shots in a tree limb cause the buds to open. Extracts of tops or roots of plants and of bark or wood of trees all make good bud openers. The vitamins, except nicotinic I acid (the anti-pellagra vitamin) failed. Some of the substances which cause plants to grow when ALL WOOD PULP TO BE RATIONED Washington, March IS W The government today took con trol of the nation's entire supply of wood pulp, effective May 1. under a war production board order assuming power to allo cate both domestically produced and imported pulp to paper mills and other users. The order is intended "to conserve supplies and distribute equitably the available pulp be tween competing war and civil Ian requirements," WPB said Nitrating pulp is used for mak ing explosives and military de mand Is expected to mount steeply this year. Pulp imported from Canada, the principal foreign source of supply, after noon, eastern war time, on May 1, will be "frozen" until released by J. S. Knowl son, WPB's director of industry operations. SHULTS FUNERAL Services for Herman J. Shults who passed away in Lebanon, Oregon, on Wednesday, will be held in the Conger Funeral Par lors Saturday afternoon at 2:30. with the Rev. R. W. Coleman officiating. Interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park. Mr. Shults was born in Okla homa on February 11, 1913. In May, 1941, at Port Orford. he was united In marriage to Aud rey Bar bee of Medford. Surviv ing, besides his wife, is his father. W. H. Shults. three brothers and three sisters, C.
