PLAN FOR POST

after the war, which may serve
. as a pattern for similat programs
' in other states.
The program calls for accu
mulation of funds for construc
tion of public works after the
war and immediate curtailment
of non-defense and non-essential
spending.
The program was announced
by Gov. Harold E. Stassen, who
said it had been formulated by
economists of the council of state
governments. Stassen, presi
dent of the council, said the plan
probably will be adopted in
similar form" by other state.
Stassen said that Inasmuch as
Minnesota u one of the first
states to adopt such a program,
the plans would be sent to the
council headquartera for use as
a pattern.
The Minnesota plan calls for
the setting aside immediately of
$4,000,000 in- state highway
funds and money earmarked pre
viously for the state's building
program. This will form the
nucleus of the post-war reserve
fund.
Plans now being made for
highway and building construc
tion will be filed away for use
after the war. The program
limits highway construction to
the bare requirements of essen
tial maintenance.
Stassen said he hoped part of
the post-war fund could be in
vested In government bonds. He
said, however, that the state at
torney general would have to
rule on the legality of the investment.
There were 211 trumpeter

been almost extinct for more
than a decade but has Increased
from 33 counted birds In 1933.

will on the 3rd day of April, 1942, at the hour of 7:30 o'clock p.m.,
at the Council Chamber in the City Hall of said City of Medford.
Oreson, offer for sale an issue of $19,258.90 of bonds of the City
of Medford, being the heretofore duly authorized City of Medford
Improvement Bonds (Series E), said bonds to be in denomination
of $500.00 each, numbered 2 to 39 inclusive except bond number 1
which shall be in the denomination of $256.90. to be dated March 1.
1942, and to mature serially in numerical order on the 1st day of
March as follows:

of the Treasurer of the City of Medford, Oregon, said bonds will
be sold subject to the approving opinion of Messrs. Teal, Winfree,
McCulloch, Shuler & Kelley, bond attorneys at Portland, Oregon;
said bonds to be furnished and printed by the City of Medford,
Oregon.
All bids must be in writing and all persons offering to purchase
said bonds are invited to bid thereon at such rate of interest not
exceeding 6 per cent per annum, as they shall designate, and said
bonds shall bear the interest as shall be designated by the Pur
chaser thereof as aforesaid; each bid shall be accompanied by a cer
tified check payable to the City of Medford, Oregon, in the sum of
$400.00. The right is reserved to reject any and all bids. Bids
must be for not less than par and accrued interest.

ment may:
1. Reduce sharply the number
of cars In use.
2. Influence those who use
cars to drive less.
3. Cause motorists to drive
more slowly and carefully to
prevent excessive wear or loss
of the car in a wreck.
Calling attention to the dan
ger of a "take-it-for-granted" at
titude Williams urged motorists
to take continued precautions
against accidents.

April 13, 1942, for all the live
timber marked or designated for
cutting, and all merchantable
dead timber located on an area
embracing about 1,160 acres
within Sections 20, 21, 28 and 29,
T. 32 S., R. 3 E., W. M.. Rogue j
River National- Forest, Oregon,
estimated to be 9,800,000 feet
B.M., more or less, of Douglas
fir, and an unestimated amount
of California incense-cedar, white
fir and hemlock to be cut at the
ontion of the purchaser. No bid
of less than 1.85 per M feet for
Douglas-fir and $1.00 per M feet
for California incense - cedar,
white fir and hemlock, will be
considered. In determining the
high bid. the rate for Douglas-;
fir only will be considered. In I
addition to the prices bid for the
stumpage, a cooperative deposit
