Parker, assistant superintend ent, and George T. Hopper resi dent engineer, motored today to Klamath Falls where they con ferred at the bureau of reclama tion and the Tulelake wildlife refuge offices. Extension Meeting A special extension meeting at Central Point Grange hall has been scheduled for tomorrow at 10 a. m. AH women of the com munity are invited. Those at tending are asked to bring a paper sack lunch which will be supplemented by vegetables cooked during the morning dem onstration. e e Community Meeting A com munity social meeting will be held at Roxy Ann Grange hall on Spring street Friday at 8 p. m. A. e e Driver Birkus J. Giffard, 17, 30 North Front street, was the driver of the car that was in collision with one operated by Frank R. Moore, 34, on the South Pacific highway Tuesday night, it was shown in a report on file today. Mr. and Mrs. Moore were injured in the accident, Mrs. Moore suffering a fractured right knee. e Collide B. L. Dodge, Route 4 Box 178, was the driver of a car that collided with a Con solidated Frelghtways truck at the Medford Ice and Storage company on South Fir street last evening, according to a report on file today. Wolf, Sterling route, box 44, operated cars that side swiped on North Riverside ave nue at Edwards street yesterday afternoon, a report on file today stared. William H. Right of way Is granted funeral pro cessions and cars In the proces sion have their lights on to show that a funeral is being held, it was pointed out. Motorists are not supposed to cut into the procession, police emphasized in saying that every once in a while drivers become lax in this respect. Collisions Two cars collided with minor damage on the Pa cific highway near Phoenix last night, according to a report on file today. Mrs. J. F. Parsons, Route 4, was the driver of one car, the report showed. There was no report yet on the other car. Martyn L. Pearce, Jack sonville, and Frank K. Webb, Central Point, operated cars that collided on North Riverside avenue late Tuesday afternoon, it was stated in a report on file today. Enlisted Jack M f"!arnnfr in charge of the navy recruiting station in the Medford federal building, today announced that during the past week the fol lowing men were formally en listed at Portland: Norval Lady, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R Lnriv Route 4, Donald Wright, Jack sonville, former employe of the U. S. National Bank of Portland here, and Rollin Jordan, inn nf Mrs. Ruth Jordan, Ashland. All were accepted for enlistment mrougn the Medford office. IN FBI CUSTODY Portland, March 12 An Italian national from the Med ford area, said to have had con traband articles in his posses sion, was held here today, J. Douglas Swenson, FBI chief, re ported. U. S. Attorney Carl C. Don- augh said the alien enemy hear ing board has completed study ing the cases of four Italians and nine Germans arrested earlier. This Is the second case of an alien of enemy nationality being taken Into custody In the Med ford area, a German having been previously detained. FBI officials make a practice of not disclosing names pending hear ings. Searches for contraband were made at a number of homes In this area yesterday. Gandhi Unimpressed By British Proposal Wardha, India, March 12 (IP) Despite the British govern ment's announcement of plans for post-war dominion status for India, the supreme leader of Hindu nationalists, Mohandas K. Gandhi, professed today to see no sign of settlement for the Indian question. The frail little man who re nounced the title of Mahatma (saintly one) and even formal leadership of the All-India con gress party, said in an Interview that Britain must confess "the greatest crime against India" which he defined as imperialism and undo it. Benjamin D. Dag well, Portland, Episcopal bishop for Oregon, said In a talk before the weekly luncheon-meeting of the Lions club In the Hotel Med ford Wednesday. Bishop Dagwell said he was not concerned with the influ ence the cantonment being built here would have on Medford but the influence Medford would have on the cantonment. Point ing out that the American army Is not professional, he empha sized that. Just as in civilian life, a butcher, baker, a doctor or a mechanic, when a soldier, will enjoy the . same associations whenever they ara available, at the cantonment or in Medford. Bishop Dagwell referred to the unity of purpose attained by this country in prosecuting the war. "Selfish motives are being set aside, everything we hold dear is at stake and therefore we can no longer seek a life of ease. Bishop Dagwell came here on behalf of the solicitation -of funds for the enlargement of the Medford Episcopal church and expanded recreational fa cilities for the soldiers who will occupy Camp White. METERFOESASK (Coitlsued Prom Pas. Ob.) public hearing or an election be held to determine if the meters should be installed. As it was believed it would take some time for an election, it was agreed to hold a public hearing and give the public the right to decide. A committee was appointed by Mr. Thorndike to make arrange ments regarding the hearing. Since then it appears the board. without regard to a hearing, is making arrangements for the in stallation of meters, and the committee so appointed now re quests that the hearing be held, that the water board now set the time and place of such hear ing, and that public notice be given thereof. "The citizens of Medford are earnestly requested to be pres ent and express their desires at such meeting so that the water board may have the expression of the public, and be guided thereby." AT A group of Medford business and professional men attended an Informal dinner Wednesday night at the Dutch Mill, on the south Pacific highway, in honor of A. S. Rosenbaum, retired dis trict agent of the Southern Pa cific company. Glenn Jackson acted as toastmaster and Gus Newbury, local attorney, was spokesman for the group of friends in presenting to Mr. Rosenbaum a token of their affection and esteem. Among those who joined in the informal after-dinner reml nlsences of old days In the Rogue River valley were Judge J. B. Coleman, H. S. Deuel and Gus Newbury. . The gathering Is one of sev eral being held by citizens of this community in recognition of Mr. Rosenbaum's many years of service in southern Oregon. James W. Grigs by, commanding officer of Com pany A. The change In policy permits enrollment of men In class 3-A for selective service. Thus these men can get some military train ing before being called to serv ice, Capt. Grigsby pointed out. The state guard, under the new ruling, will build up a re serve roster, members of which will receive full training. Men i0 to 35 years old who are interested were invited to call at the Medford armory at 7:30 p. m. tomorrow for detailed in formation. March 12 VP) Nine teen major distilling companies were accused today of raising and fixing liquor prices In Colo rado in a federal grand Jury in dictment that also named eight wholesale liquor firms, two dealer associations, and 54 indi viduals. John Porter, special assistant to the attorney general, said the maximum penalty for convic tion under the indctment would be a $5,000 fine for corporations and a 15,000 fine and one year a imprisonment for individuals.
