IE LUPE VELEZ 'Old Professor And 'Great Profile' In Rollicking Show Opening Today. Kay Kyser 1 not merely the nation's best-known band leader; he's also an A-l screen favorite, as his previous vehicles have proved. And In his latest starrer, "Playmates," which opens today at the Craterian theatre, ne has one of the gayest pieces of celluloid entertainment in many months. . Featuring John Barrymore Byser Is supported by his band and by a brilliant cast who aid and abet the hilarity in delight ful fashion. The Ol' Professor and the Great Profile both play themselves, and they are brought together by their re spective press-agents in connec tion with a publicity stunt that Involves having Barrymore give Kyser Is supported by his band Barrymore detests the idea, and plans to double-cross Kyser at the last minute, while secret ly carrying on a campaign de signed to make a nervous wreck of the band-leader. Kyser, how' ever, gets wind of the scheme and uses his own methods to turn the tables on his adversary. How it all works out makes for some of the funniest episodes of the season. Both stars turn in splendid performances, and they get grand assistance from Lupe Velez as a fiery Latin bull ffghtress, and May Robson as Kyser's grandmother. , "Dumbo" Coming to Craterian The story of "Dumbo," the baby elephant who learned to fly with his ears, has caugnt the fancy of the nation like nothing Walt Disney has released since "Snow White" and, starting Wednesday at the Craterian theatre, local showgoers will have a chance to learn why. Pictured here is the Matriarch, whose haughty face is furthest right, and who, with the other three ladies, rules with strict social etiquette the circus where Dumbo lives the amazing ad ventures that lead to his learn ing to fly. And he flies be cause he was born with enor mous sail-like ears, which give the girls plenty to talk about. Nine new songs help make the film the gayest of all the Disney pictures. In addition to the pachyderm ladies, "Dumbo" in troduces many other new char acters like Casey, Jr., the lov able little engine; and Tim Mouse, Dumbo's best friend, who spurs him on in learning to fly. RAF Flyers Filmed In Action For Hit On Rial to' s Screen G. Robinson, sensational star of 'Five Star Final," has the star ring role of the two-fisted news paperman and Edward Arnold is cast as the. underworld king Others in the cast are Laraine Day and Marsha Hunt. Only once in a blue moon is there a box office picture filmed without the aid of Holly wood grease paint and kleig lights and one of those pic tures is "Target For Tonight," which heads the double bill playing, for today and tomor row only at the Rialto theatre. Actually filmed under heavy fire, "Target For Tonight" is a real-life plcturization of an air raid over Germany as staged by Great Britain's Royal Air Force. The heroic group of fighter aviators took their own crew of cemeramen and for their benefit staged one of the most daring raids on Germany that has been executed during the great war. By dropping bombs into the very heart of Hitler's private domain is recorded on celluloid the first uncensored story of how an air raid is planned and executed. There are no actors the only actors are the officers and mn of the R. A. F. but in the 50 unforgettable minutes that it takes to show the film there will be pictured some of the world's greatest real-life actors the devil-dog fighters of the R. A. F. In actual combat with the enemy. "Unholy Partners," a swift paced story of a fighting editor versus a big-time New York racketeer, plays as the com panion Hollywood feature with "Target For Tonight." Once Germany is disposed of and the axis split, these persons say, Japan will become consid erably less formidable, mainly because the U.
