COUNTY LEADERS TO SPREAD WORD ON HEALTH DIET Sub-committee Chairmen Heading Program In Com munities Listed for Drive. Mora than hundred leading women of Jackson county, gird ing for defense with information on proper nutrition, are taking off this week on an intensified program to spread the know ledge of balanced diet and bet ter health to every home In the county. The county has been divided Into 14 sections, with project leaders from each section to hold community meetings throughout the month with "The Yardstick of Good Nutrition" as their topic. These leaden received special training when they met with Miss Lucy Case, nutrition specialist from Oregon State college, in Medford Wednesday, Many Careless "Poor nutrition applies to all Income groups," they were told by Miss Case. "Many don't care, even though they know how to maintain a balanced diet. Too many people are trying to get health through use of vitamin tablets and cold remedies, when all the prevention needed can be found in our foods." the specialist urged. She further stated that deaths among elderly people mount during the winter months, when, oftentimes, an adequate diet of such added pro tective foods as dairy products, eggs, vegetables and fruits would supply the needed strength for longer life. The project being carried on Is headed by Governor Charles A. Sprague, and is sponsored locally by the Jackson county council on nutrition for defense with Miss Marian Farrell, home demonstration agent, as chair man. Sub-committee chairmen heading the program In each community are as follows: Mrs. Rita Myers, Medford; Mrs. Lee Port, Applegate; Mrs. Mamie Grubb, Ashland; Mrs. Mabel Thornton, Eagle Point; Mrs. C. L. Hockersmith, Sams Valley; Mrs. A. A. Dixon, Rogue River; Mrs. Anne Coleman, Jackson ville; Mrs. J. R. McCrackcn, Phoenix-Talent; Mrs. Eugene Hampton, Central Point; Mrs. Willie McLean, Gold Hill; Mrs. E. W. McCannon, Trill: Mrs. Zella Tullis and Mrs. Ethel Casey, McLeod; Mrs. V. D. Chamberlen, Oak Grove; Mrs. T. J. Ritchey, Prospect. Watch Announcements Leaders urge everyone to watch for local announcements Of these health meetings in each community, and that all make arrangements to attend. Special provision will be made for care of children. Further meetings will be held until May. Mrs. Rosemary K'eney, farm security supervisor, who is chair man of the speakers' bureau in the county nutrition council, has announced that she has speakers available for any organization, Including men's clubs, who wish to have further information en the nutrition program. Mrs Maxlne Anderson of this city, former home economic teacher, already has spoken before many groups on this subject, and among other speukeis available will be alumni members of the e o u n t y extension committee, physicians and others. These speakers may be secured by con tacting Mrs. Keeney. A motion picture, 'Tor Health and Happiness," will be avail able from May 6 to 13 through the visual education department of Oregon State college, it was announced, and chairmen may want to make advance reserves on the film. The picture shows the results of good nutrition for ycung children and the simple 'beory of proper diet. HEAD CONVICTED Los Angeles. Feb. 2. UP) Mis. Edna Ballard, head of the "I Am" movement, and her son Donald, were convicted of mall fraud Saturday by a federal jury. The four other defendants, nitv r Mundv.
